David was lucky enough to present a practical workshop at the Australian Hand Therapy National Conference on a mechanical scar machine used in our Gold Coast Hand clinics.

This device delivers different sized pulses to mobilise tissue and flatten the layers to improve scars. It delivers amazing results for Active Hand Therapy patients, reducing pain, increasing movement and improving appearance.

Big thanks to the conference organisers for another great conference and bring on the Goldy on 2025!!!

Another great success story at Active Therapy, with Miles helping Jenny to graduate to self management and return to full work duties, after her shoulder injury. Lots of hard work in the gym has paid off, and as a reward she takes home a selection of dumbbells to keep up the good work! 💪🏼 ✨

Ash, Ash and Evie spent their weekend attending the Mobilisation course - mastering their static progressive and dynamic splinting skills. The weekend included fabrication of multiple mobilisation splints and plenty of education to keep our therapists up to date on the effects of mobilising forces from orthotic application 👍🏼✔️ There is lots to consider with these compared to the more common static splints that our therapists use for acute injuries - such as torque, rotational force and outrigger placement

Jordan, Dave, Miles and Claire attending the Grand Rounds seminar last night featuring the who’s who of shoulder experts.

Thanks to Dr Andrew Mcbride for hosting, and Dr Angelo Rando, Dr Tim Wood, and Dr Luke Eggleston for their specialist medical insight. As well as amazing clinical insights from Mr Paul Wierdershen and Mr Yasu Maki, lead physiotherapists for surfing and baseball Australia respectively.

Team Active nailed the prizes on the night too!

DYNAMIC SPLINTING ✋🏼

This patient required a dynamic splint post surgery to assist with extension of his PIP joints. Swipe across to see his PIP joint extension 5 weeks earlier at the start of dynamic splinting.

Whilst a quick manual stretch is helpful at the time, it is often painful and not well maintained. Studies show that a prolonged stretch under low load is less painful and creates more permanent change. Dynamic splinting compliments therapy completed in clinic by allowing you to make significant gains from the comfort of home.

At Active Hand Therapy, our specialised hand therapists have the skills to treat you from start to finish! This means you can stay with the same team from day one. Our therapists are able to complete wound care, including removal of sutures, and are skilled in custom-made thermoplastic splints and casts, as well as providing comprehensive rehab plans including strengthening programs. We work closely with other professionals such as surgeons and GPs, to work towards a shared goal ✋🏼👍🏼

This was a patient that injured themselves late in the day. We were able to cast and have them comfortable with no wait time.
At Active Hand Therapy we can cast, splint and brace - finding the best option to suit the injury and keep you pain free.

Our hand therapist Claire likes to get straight to the ‘point’! 😜
At Active Therapy we use a variety of treatment modalities including trigger point dry needling to help our patients. Claire has completed extra training for needling muscles across the whole body, not only the upper limb.”

What is Hand Therapy??!

It is a rehab treatment, similar to what a Physio would do but only in a specialised area. At Active Hand Therapy our therapists treat injuries from the tips of the finger to the shoulder. Our specialist Hand Therapists and Physiotherapists have extra training and years of experience for these conditions and can cast, splint, diagnose and treat.
Over the holiday season, our clinics covering the Gold Coast and Tweed, are open normal hours except for the public holidays.

Mile’s was in attendance to gain an understanding of the clinical reasoning behind the techniques, with a framework to identify those patients who will benefit from neuroimmune mobilisation.

Big thanks to the who organised some world renowned pain scientists to deliver the lectures.

Feeling the love with a collection of thank you’s from our lovely patients.

Claire, one of our amazing Hand Therapists, received a huge bunch of flowers, Miles received a handmade gorgeous vase from a talented patient and the Palm Beach team were showered with chocolates - which were promptly eaten before any photos were taken. 😃🤔.

Carpal Tunnel is one of the most common conditions we see. Last year we would have had hundreds of patients walk through our door. It is usually a progressive disease that becomes more and more of an impact on our daily lives. Typing, lifting, gripping can all be painful.

The good news is there is lots of help from a Hand Therapist.
- can diagnose
- make the right splint
- give you all the exercises and tools to rest the area
- nerve gliding movements
- go through surgical options

Go to our website to watch a short video of what causes Carpal Tunnel.

As a musician, pain in the fingers, wrist or elbow is really limiting. It’s frustrating to have to put down the instrument because of pain. But there is a lot that Hand Therapists can help with.

We have made many splints for guitarists, cellists, violinists, flute players, pianists and other musicians. We have made some custom picks and other devices to keep playing pain free. There are also some great modification options and exercises to reduce early inflammation.

We would love you to come visit us, see how we can help and bring your instrument!
