🛑 Scam alert 🛑 We’re seeing an increase in reports of individuals impersonating Virgin Money staff, calling customers and requesting their one-time password to access their Internet Banking.

🚩 Red flags to look out for:
👉 Scammers have been known to typically call from private numbers or landlines that may impersonate genuine Virgin Money phone numbers.
👉 The scammer often emphasise urgency and allude to your account being compromised to pressure you to provide your personal information quickly.
👉 Scammers may seem knowledgeable and recite personal details that you have recently entered in an online form. Consider calls received soon after clicking online links or entering your phone number into online forms.
👉 Multiple calls from the same number claiming to be from different organisations or financial institutions.

We’re completing system maintenance on our banking platforms this weekend, so the Virgin Money app will be unavailable between 2:00am – 1:00pm AEST Sunday, 16 June.

Here are a few tips to help you prepare:

👉 During this period, Instant Payments into your account using PayID will be delayed and expected to land later in the day on Sunday, 16 June.

👉 Instore and online payments using debit and credit cards (including digital wallets) will be available, reduced limits may apply.

👉 Transfers made to your transaction account on Sunday may be delayed. We recommend making sure you have sufficient funds for any planned purchases, bills or transactions available on Saturday, 15 June if you think you’ll need it.

👉 Withdrawals at ATMs using your debit card will available, reduced limits may apply. We recommend withdrawing cash on Saturday, 15 June if you think you’ll need it.

🛑 Scam alert: 'Deepfake' technology is being used to create fake videos of celebrities and public figures to promote different investment products and platforms.

'Deepfakes' are lifelike impersonations of real people created by artificial intelligence (AI).

🚩 What to look out for:
1. Articles or videos of a celebrity/public figure claiming to make big profits from a trading or investment platform.
2. The person speaks with odd pitches or unusual pauses and facial/mouth movements don't match the speaking tone or aren't in time.
3. The video/image is low quality.

With the holidays approaching, please allow extra time for incoming or outgoing payments to be processed.

Transfers between banks and some accounts can take up to three business days depending on when this is made. Any transfers made late in the day, on weekends and on public holidays like Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, may take a little longer. However, Osko transfers will be processed immediately.

It’s tax time, so it’s important to be wary of any contact (email, phone calls, text messages) claiming to be from Virgin Money or the ATO that you suspect is not genuine.⁠

Stay updated with the latest scam alerts and how to best⁠ avoid them either on our website or subscribe to the ATO’s⁠ email updates.⁠

Tips to avoid being scammed:⁠
👉️ Never provide personal information to any unsolicited contacts. Call the organisation directly using a phone number on their website.⁠
👉️ Shred personal documents before throwing them out.⁠
👉️ Create complex passwords.⁠
👉️ Monitor your physical mail and, if you can, opt for paperless.⁠
👉️ Set all your apps’ settings to private.
