Putting on the intended line

You are putting for par from 10 feet, you have decided on the break or slope and you have a good sense of the speed required. You hit the putt and miss the hole by 2 feet sideways. The first thought is “did I judge the slope incorrectly?”

More times than not, you most likely started the ball from contact on the wrong line. You missed the intended line required to start the ball on.

Use this dime drill to assist with starting on the intended line. Pick a hole to putt towards from 10 feet, then place a dime on the ground 3 feet directly on the line away from the ball. If you hit the ball over the dime, then you started the ball on your intended line!

SWING TIP
BALANCE

Spring golf includes assessing your golf clubs, specifically the grip condition. If you did not work on your game over the winter, you may start on some basic fundamentals. This includes the grip, stance, posture, and BALANCE.
Your feet will tell you all you need to know!
Balance points on your feet include toes to heels, the inside edge of the foot and the outside edge.
You are looking for an athletic position or the ready position, so try standing tall, let your hands slide down your legs until you touch the top of your knees. This will include a slight bend of the knees and an angle from the waist.
The back swing should be a balanced position over the trail foot, avoid having pressure move to the outside edge of the foot.
Remember, if your body is looking to find balance during the motion, it is less likely to be doing a desired motion.
