When your computer is down, May as well move the office outdoors on a day like today. Lunch with my son at The Dock.
I was up early today to watch the ceremony from Juno Beach. We must never forget. Thank you.
So with the wind and ice, my trusty Elf decided to sleep in, but that didn’t stop me from dropping in to Tearmann Society with a donation on behalf of my clients. Counsellor Rene MacDonald told me about their Christmas program and how they were not able to provide gifts for all the families . So I called my son and daughter to ask if they would like to make a donation to help out. YES came back right away and Blair and Tori donated $300 to help make a Christmas for a family. That made Rene’s day, but also made me proud of my two kids! The last donation was to the Pictou County Food Bank online as they were closed after an extremely busy week. Happy to help the community; Happy to teach my son and daughter about giving back. Proud of them. Merry Christmas to all!
Our second stop on a windy Monday took our sleigh to Stellarton where my Head Elf dropped into the Pictou County Roots for Youth house to spread some more cheer. Jamie and Sarah gave us a quick update on what they have been up to, and the work they are doing with vulnerable young people. Blair left with a bigger smile knowing that he’s helping make a difference. Thank you Sarah for the kind words for Blair.
Earlier this week I dropped in with my trusty Elf, to spread a little Xmas cheer. First stop was New Glasgow Academy to make a donation to the school’s breakfast program. Vice Principal Julie Robertson told me they provide breakfast for up to 100 students. Blair learns about the various programs we support and he’s learning about giving back to the community. A huge shout out to the teachers and volunteers that help make this program a success.
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
So today we took part in the 29th annual Summer Street Scramble. Joining me are Stewart Noseworthy, Robert Morton, Chris MacDonald, and our Crusher billet Cam Mackenzie. It was a great day on the course, and the community support is truly amazing, raising over $303,000. We’ll done Pictou County! Now off to the rink for hockey. Drinks on the Deck Friday will have to wait until Saturday.
On this day in 2001, our lives changed forever. We must never forget.
Last month Tearmann House put out a call looking for some household items for their clients. My son, Blair, and I took some time to load a laundry basket of products to help those in need. Giving back is something we teach both our kids, and proud of both of them for all that they do for the community.
Last month, I was glad to get out for the United Way’s Golf Fore Change event at Abercrombie Golf Club. Tim, Stuart, and Brian joined me to help raise funds for much need community projects. Hats off to all the volunteers who make the event so successful.
Tearmann Society is need of some household items for its clients. Please consider adding an extra item to your shopping trip this week, if possible. Every bit helps. Thank you.
Our shelter is in need of a few items, so we are putting out a community Call to Action!
Donations can be dropped off JULY 14TH, 2023 BETWEEN 11:30AM TO 1:30PM in the parking lot of Starbucks in New Glasgow!
Thanks in advance!

Market Intelligence | Manulife Investment Management Market outlook that measure key investment markets — including Canadian equities, U.S. equities, international equities, and fixed income — for Canadian investors.
Typically, investors use bonds for income and to decrease downside portfolio volatility, as bonds typically act as a counterbalance when equities fall. In 2022, bonds didn’t do their job. This decline wasn’t an indication of the quality of the underlying business or increased risk of a default, but the result of rise in yields.
When we look at the opportunity set for bonds moving forward, we describe it in three phases: the sweet spot, duration is your friend, and take on risk.
Read on to learn more from our Co-Chief Investment Strategists.
To discuss how to take advantage of the three phases, reach out to me.
When it comes to investing in bonds, opportunity has three phases | Manulife Investment Management This has been a tough year for both equities and fixed income investors. The three phases of fixed-income investing show the multiple opportunities active fixed-income managers have at their disposal during different economic and market environments.
My elf rolled over this morning and said he worked the late shift at the shop last night, and he needs his rest! So, I packed up my sleigh and off I went to Tearmann Society, where I was met by the acting Executive Director Renee MacDonald. We had a great chat about their year, and I was happy to drop off a donation on behalf of our clients. Got to keep moving before the storm.
So my Elf was busy at Santa’s workshop so I made a couple trips out solo to spread some Christmas cheer. I dropped in to Pictou County Roots for Youth Society and met the sparkling Sara MacKay, Transitional House Program Coordinator to drop off a donation on behalf of my clients. To say Sara’s personality was as sparkling as her top would be an understatement! Happy Holidays….now back on my sleigh
My Dad taught me early on in life that not matter where I live, it’s important to give back. So on behalf of my clients, my Elf and I dropped off a donation to New Glasgow Academy Principal Andrew Francis to help with the breakfast and lunch programs. Hats off to all the volunteers who help run the programs.
Update to our office: First off, all of our staff are safe with minimal damage to our homes and property. I hope that this post finds all of you and your families safe and that you too suffered minimal damage. I know there are some that have had significant losses, and my thoughts are with you as you begin to deal the the aftermath of Fiona. As of today, we still do not have any power to our office, and as a result we will remaun closed. At home, we have no power or internet, and cell phone service is hit and miss. Therefore, even texting is a challenge. I will update on here the status of the office. Please continue to check on neighbours and lend a hand if possible.
Our office will be closed Monday, September 19 to observe the provincial day of mourning for Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral service.
After 16 months, I am pleased to let you know we are back to our office at 156 Provost St, New Glasgow. This past weekend my office was one of many sponsors for the first Versatility Ranch Horse Show put on by TS Performance Horses in Pictou. It was interesting to watch riders of all ages from across the region, put their horses through various obstacles and skill challenges. My son even tried his hand at calf roping. Note: no calf was harmed, but lots of laughs!
Last Friday, I participated in the United Way Golf for Change event at Abercrombie Golf Club. My office also sponsored the golf carts. Thanks to Brian, Robert, and Scott for joining me for a fun day on the course. Shout out to all the volunteers who made sure the event was a success.
