Bansi Nagji MBA’93J is an experienced senior healthcare executive and Board member, and is currently Executive Chair at PANTHERx Rare, one of the leading rare drug specialty pharmacies in the US, where he leads the Board and oversees the company’s ongoing strategic development and growth.

Luis Freitas de Oliveira MBA’93D has 35 years of investment industry experience. He is currently Partner at Capital Group, one of the world's oldest and most successful investment management organisations.

Shirish Barwale MBA’07D is our INSEADer of the month!

Shirish has been making waves in agricultural genetics since graduating in 2007. He joined Mahyco, a leading agricultural genetics company in India, as the third generation of his family involved in the business. Shirish has shown unwavering commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and promoting sustainability across rural farming systems in India, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

In 2015, Shirish became Managing Director at Mahyco, focusing on empowering smallholder farmers through scientific advancements. Under his leadership, Mahyco expanded its portfolio beyond seeds to include essential inputs for farmers. Today, Mahyco serves millions of farming families across 13 countries, reflecting Shirish's vision and dedication.

Mahyco continues to invest in innovative technologies tailored to the needs of smallholder farmers. These innovations include horticultural genetics, enabling farmers to monetise carbon credits, and the use of drones. They are also exploring genetics for insect and plant proteins and reducing chemical usage.

Shirish attributes Mahyco's innovation over the past decade to the trust and support of his family, including his spouse, Pragya, which enabled him to make crucial decisions for the company’s advancement.

Outside of his professional work, Shirish is a triathlete, a passion that began at INSEAD. A recent highlight included top 5 finish in his age category at the Mumbai Marathon.

Shirish contributes to various organisations. He serves as Vice-Chair of the seed industry association, is on the board of the Medical Research Foundation in Chennai, and is a member of the governing council of the Maharashtra State Innovation Society, promoting regional innovation.

Eight European business schools, who launched their alliance to integrate sustainable solutions into business and drive global climate action, are convening today for the second edition of the Business Schools for Climate Leadership (BS4CL) Forum.

Titled, “Who pays for the climate transition? The role of business in driving solutions,” the forum is focusing on uniting solutions, engaging with the alumni of each of the schools, and deploying knowledge to communities of business practitioners, policy makers, and government officials as a bridge between the COPs.

The participating schools include Cambridge Judge Business School, HEC Paris, IE Business School, IESE Business School, IMD, INSEAD, London Business School, and Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

With involvement from global experts, faculty, and a keynote by Pavan Sukhdev, Former President of WWF, CEO of GIST Impact, it promises to be a day of robust discussions and valuable insights.

“Business schools have a critical role to play in shaping a more sustainable future for the planet, and it is important for us at INSEAD to support initiatives such as the Brazil Climate Summit Europe that help drive the sustainable agenda.”

Dean Francisco Veloso opened the Brazil Climate Summit Europe in Paris today alongside Ricardo Neiva Tavares, Ambassador of Brazil to France and Jorge Hargrave, Director at Maraé Investimentos.

At a sold-out event at the historic Maison de l’Amerique Latine in Paris, with many also connecting online, the Summit focused on the future, exploring opportunities for Brazil and the planet. Organised by INSEAD MBA and Global Executive MBA students, in collaboration with peers from HEC, and with support from the INSEAD Hoffmann Institute, the Summit was the first of its kind by a business school in Europe.

It kicked off with a fascinating opening session with Laurence Tubiana, President and CEO of the European Climate Foundation and Izabella Teixeira, Brazil's Former Minister of Environment, who urged attendees: “Let’s discuss the future, forget the past”.

Discussions followed on topics such as building sustainable business in Brazil, the role of bio-fuels in unlocking low-carbon transportation, and insights on and policy frameworks to support the vision of a greener future, during which Marcelo Paiva MBA’03J, Antonio Uras, MBA’97D and Patricia Allen MBA’05J shared their expertise, amongst others.

In the keynote session, INSEAD Professor Felipe Monteiro launched the INSEAD/BTA case study, 'The Next 100 years of Suzano’, where he was joined by Suzano CEO Walter Schalka, who shared how he sees Suzano as a “100 year start-up” that, through a combination of success and kindness, aims to continually innovate for the benefit of the company, society and the planet.

The summit was a remarkable convergence of ideas and solutions, all geared towards shaping a future and achieving a net-zero economy, and came in advance of Brazil hosting the G20 summit later this year, followed by COP30 in 2025.

We are proud to announce that INSEAD Professor Alexandra Roulet has been awarded the 2024 Best Young French Economist by the Cercle des économistes and Le Monde!

Established in 2000, the Best Young Economist Award is conferred annually to French economists under the age of 41 who are recognised for their significant contribution towards academic excellence and relevance in the area of public policy.

In recognition of her exceptional contributions to labour economics, Alexandra Roulet was selected by the jury as the recipient of the 25th edition of the award. Previous winners have included noted economists such as Esther Duflo and Thomas Piketty.
