London Business School

We aim to have a profound impact on the way the world does business, and the way business impacts the world.

A cornerstone of London Business School's experience is working alongside other students from a variety of backgrounds.

Our study groups are carefully crafted for each cohort, providing a unique experience as you work closely with a group of peers with contrasting experience to your own, sharing perspectives and ways of working across cultures, sectors and functions. Many of our alumni tell us the relationships formed through their study groups at LBS are some of the closest they have had through their career, still supporting one another years on.

Olivier Espitalier Noel (MFA2024), Jean Zwerger (MAM2024) and Imane El Hafidi (MiM2024), share a small insight in to what their study group experience has entailed this year. https://ow.ly/QKYr50Sf8v7

šŸŒ How do organisations make sure they are inclusive for everyone?

This month, organisations around the world are participating in hashtag . Businesses should strive to ensure their people feel comfortable enough to be their authentic selves at work all the time. Professor Kathleen Oā€™Connor offers advice to business leaders on creating an inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone can be themselves.

šŸ¦„ We understand that when employees are appreciated as unique individuals, they become more motivated, more efficient, and ā€“ most crucially ā€“ happier. We should all strive to join a company where we can thrive.

šŸ†It's incumbent upon the organisation to create an atmosphere and environment where people donā€™t need to be brave to be who they are. Let your employees use that courage for something else.

ā‰ļø Business leaders need to be proactively asking themselves how they can better support all employees. This also shouldnā€™t be exceptional, itā€™s part of their job. What are you really doing to live up to that equality pledge?

Is freedom to choose a good thing for everyone? | London Business School 10/06/2024

Should everyone benefit from having the freedom to make choices? šŸ§

We assume that freedom of choice is universally beneficial and available to all of us. Professor Simona Botti confronts this assumption and others in her examination of the relationship between choice freedom and personal and society well-being.

šŸ”’Individuals generally experience psychological distress when their choice of freedom is threatened or restrained. However, the exercise of choice freedom may also negatively impact well-being when it conflicts with sociocultural norms.

šŸ“ˆChoices can be structured to increase the benefits and decrease the limits of freedom to ensure that consumers get the most out of the freedoms they are offered, and that organisations get the most out of their investments in providing more freedoms.

šŸ¤–The increasing use of technology in our everyday lives begs the question: How can we reconcile peopleā€™s desire for choice freedom with their increasing tendency to delegate choices to devices powered by artificial intelligence?

ļæ½ Never. Give. Up.

Thatā€™s the advice of Take Kato, one of our MBA2024 students ā€“ after spending nine years at Mitsubishi Corporation in Japan ļæ½ Take secured funding for his place for a London Business School MBA through company sponsorship. Some of Takeā€™s learnings:

ļæ½ Funding options are like shoes ā€“ they have to fit your specific journey. Make sure your future goals are kept in mind when exploring funding options.

ļæ½ GMAT preparation ā€“ Take a reflective approachā€“ consider career goals, what an MBA can help you achieve, which school best aligns with your aspirations, all while gathering information from multiple sources.

ļæ½ Keep the end goal in mind ā€“ Take says ā€œBeing a sponsored student open doors to incredible experiences ā€“ depending on your funding choice it can encourage you to take risks, embrace the unfamiliar and provide meaningful challenges.ā€

Last week, 84 of our MBA and Graduate Masters students headed to Nepal for our Kathmandu Global Experience. The course provided students with the opportunity to gain a practical understanding of how local Nepalese start-ups and small enterprises achieve their aims, grow their businesses and operate in their unique environment. Through 16 short-term client projects, students were able to address pressing business challenges and build an understanding of the role of entrepreneurship in this emerging market and how it links with driving social change.

Led by Professor Rupert Merson, the week also included sessions from guest speakers, company visits and Faculty sessions designed to expand studentsā€™ knowledge of the business ecosystem. Students were also able to explore the specific opportunities and challenges facing Nepal at this stage of the countryā€™s development.
