There are a lot myths around mental illness. It may surprise you that it affects one in four adults and is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide.

It's a real and serious medical condition that can be effectively treated. Mental illnesses are caused by a complex interaction of genetic, biological, psychological, and environmental factors.

People with mental illness are no more likely to be violent than the general population. In fact, people with mental illness are more likely to be the victims of violence than the perpetrators.

It's not a sign of weakness. Mental illness is a medical condition that should be treated like any other medical condition, which means it's not something that you can just snap out of!

Our brains are fascinating systems that function much like a well-worn path through a dense forest. These paths, or Habitual Neural Pathways, are created through repeated thoughts and actions. Every time we react in a familiar way or stick to routines, these neural pathways become more entrenched, guiding our automatic responses just like a path we've walked many times is easier to follow.

However, what if you want to explore a new part of the forest, or change the way you react to certain situations? This is where Intentional Changes come into play. Making an intentional change is like forging a new path through uncharted territory. It requires conscious effort and determination. By introducing new thoughts and actions, you're essentially creating new neural pathways in your brain. It's a deliberate process aimed at developing positive shifts in your behaviour and mindset, allowing you to step out of auto-pilot mode and take control of how you interact with the world around you.

Understanding the difference between these two can empower us to make more informed choices about how we want to live and respond to life's challenges. By recognising our habitual paths, we can decide to continue down them or carve new trails that lead to growth and transformation.

Hypnotherapy plays a crucial role in this process. By accessing the subconscious mind, hypnotherapy helps facilitate the creation of new neural pathways, effectively supporting intentional changes. It allows individuals to bypass their habitual responses and plant the seeds for new, more constructive behaviours and thought patterns.

What does your dream day look like?

My dream day is watching a beautiful sunrise, walking my beautiful dog, Bella, along the beach, enjoying Sunday lunch with my family, simply spending time in my garden, and doing all the other stuff that makes life great and makes me happy. That might be playing my harp, baking a yummy cake, or relaxing with a good book.

I love the sound of the sea and spending time with those who matter most to me. Of course, I also love working with clients who are excited and enthusiatic about life.

Hi, I'm Katina Chapman. I help you to have more confidence in your life. I’m a professional and registered hypnotherapist and have offices in Norwich and Lowestoft.

I worked for over 20 years in Human Resources as an HR Manager and Head of HR. During my time I helped many people overcome anxiety and stress, build confidence and empower their lives. I used the many skills I picked up coaching people as well as the more esoteric skills of meditation and other spiritual practices.

I work with people who are looking to make positive changes in their life. Many of my clients are looking to manage stress, get rid of fears and phobias or lose weight and adopt a new set of habits easily. Habits that are realistic, that meet their goals and that they can live with in the long term.

I recently helped a young girl, who was afraid of flying, fly for the first time to be a bridesmaid in Greece. I helped a boy with a severe fear of dogs, that he'd had his whole life, become relaxed around dogs and even get a puppy. I helped a business executive who was struggling to manage stress, increase productivity and be less stressed at the same time.
