Missouri hikes allowable amount of vitamin E acetate 07/22/2024

If you live in Missouri, you might want to avoid v**e pens. The state has allowed the amount of vitamin E acetate in the v**e oil to be increased. Clearly, they’re not aware that when this substance is heated, it turns into ketene which causes lung damage…or worse yet, they don’t care.

“Vitamin E acetate (VEA) has been linked to the 2019–2020 e-cigarette or va**ng product use–associated lung injury (EVALI) epidemic, in large part due to VEA’s prevalence in patient samples.”

Three Out Of Four Patients Say Medical Ma*****na Reduces Their Use Of Opioids And Painkillers, Ohio Study Shows - Ma*****na Moment 07/19/2024

This is why cannabis needs to be decriminalized and completely descheduled. It would free up law-enforcement to focus on the substance that’s really killing people: fentanyl.

Three Out Of Four Patients Say Medical Ma*****na Reduces Their Use Of Opioids And Painkillers, Ohio Study Shows - Ma*****na Moment A new study out of Ohio finds that a large majority of medical ma*****na patients in the state say cannabis has reduced their use of prescription opioid painkillers as well as other, illicit drugs. Unknown compounds found in ma*****na testing samples, labs say 07/16/2024

“You can’t make one thing without something else being formed as well.”

Josh Swider, co-founder and CEO of San Diego-based Infinite Chemical Analysis Labs, said that he has screened many delta-8 products created through chemical processes.

“You’ll see 60 unknown compounds in there,” he said. “Some of them get identified, but all of them are never found.

“That is telling you that you’re now adding other compounds that we never found in cannabis, and now people are smoking it.

“It’s a very common thing going on around the country.”

This is why the cannabis and h**p markets need to be regulated.

Commercial labs don’t yet have the equipment, nor technology, to identify all these new unknown chemicals being formed during the process of synthetically changing CBD to other cannabinoids.

Delta 8 THC is only found in trace amounts in the plant. Consuming products that were actually extracted from the plant is the safest move, not those converted in the lab or someone’s garage.

Why the Supreme Court's decision overruling Chevron and limiting federal agencies is so significant 07/01/2024

Ever wonder why America has such poor outcomes, despite spending the most on healthcare then any other developed country?

Do you think it’s important to have clean food, air and water?

Why the Supreme Court's decision overruling Chevron and limiting federal agencies is so significant The Supreme Court overruled a 40-year-old decision that said federal courts should defer to agencies in certain cases. Here's what it means.

Drug decriminalisation: grounding policy in evidence 11/28/2023

Alcohol prohibition didn’t work. Drug prohibition isn’t working either. It’s so refreshing to see a well respected medical journal’s editorial board get it:

The UN recognises criminalisation of drugs as “proven to have negative health outcomes” and to “counter established public health evidence”; yet a disconnection between discourse and policy action persists. National drug policies largely remain punitive; they are polarised, simplified, and based more on ideology than evidence.

Decriminalisation alone is, of course, not sufficient. In its report, the Commission emphasises the need to expand harm-reduction approaches alongside decriminalisation of personal drug possession and use.

Drug decriminalisation: grounding policy in evidence The Global Commission on Drug Policy's latest report, published ahead of World AIDS Day on Dec 1, describes decriminalisation of drug use as an essential precursor to ending HIV and viral hepatitis as public health threats. Since its formation in 2011 by political, economic, and cultural leaders, th...

AstraZeneca to pay $425 million to end US lawsuits over heartburn drugs 11/24/2023

“Britain's AstraZeneca (AZN.L) has agreed to pay $425 million to settle about 11,000 lawsuits in the United States that claimed its heartburn drugs Nexium and Prilosec caused chronic kidney disease.

AstraZeneca did not admit wrongdoing under the settlement, part of broader litigation against makers of a class of heartburn drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).”

Please read and follow the instructions on over-the-counter medications. If it says don’t use beyond a certain amount of time without a physician’s supervision. That means your physician should be actively monitoring you with blood tests to make sure no injury is occurring.

Just because it’s over-the-counter doesn’t mean it can’t harm you. For example, Tylenol can cause liver failure, and aspirin can cause stomach ulcers if too much is taken.

Better yet, get an evaluation by a functional medicine trained provider, who can find the cause of your symptoms instead of just suppressing them.

Texas Woman Receives Lifetime Ban for Bringing CBD Sleep Gummies on Carnival Cruise Line 11/22/2023

Public service announcement: please be thoroughly familiar with applicable rules and regulations as you travel.

Our country’s archaic, useless, racist and costly War on Drugs sometimes spills over and negatively affects regular folks just living their lives. This is similar to women being criminalized for having a miscarriage due to severe abortion bans.

“Carnival Cruise Line does state that cannabis and CBD are clearly prohibited on its website. ‘Any illegal narcotics/drugs including synthetic, designer drugs, Cannabidiol (CBD) and medical ma*****na. While certain CBD products used for medicinal purposes may be legal in the US, they are not legal in all the ports we visit and therefore are also considered prohibited items,’ the cruise line states.”

Sen. Sanders pushes NIH to rein in drug prices 11/17/2023

Americans typically pay 400% more for pharmaceuticals compared to the rest of the world.

“Moderna increased the price of its COVID shot this year from about $26 a dose to $130 a dose. The company has downplayed NIH's role.

Generally, the pharmaceutical industry discounts the importance of NIH-funded research in its work. But Sarpatwari says the NIH is actually the largest single funder of biomedical research in the world.

A lot could be built into NIH contracts to protect Americans. "It's quite possible to at least put in terms that will ensure fair access to the fruits of all of that support," he says, adding the NIH has been hesitant to flex its muscles on pricing.”

Sen. Sanders pushes NIH to rein in drug prices The National Institutes of Health has been reluctant to use its leverage as a biomedical research funder to influence drug pricing. Sen. Bernie Sanders is pressing NIH's new director to take action.

Traces of cannabis in human bones suggest 17th-century Italians were recreational pot users | CBC News 11/09/2023

A great article that demonstrates that the stigma associated with cannabis often arose from the church and political leaders.

“In the study, two of the bones — one belonging to a woman around age 50 and another to a teenage boy — showed the presence of two kinds of cannabinoids: Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol, commonly referred to today as DTC and CBD.

The researchers say the finding not only suggests cannabis was consumed by all ages and genders, but that it was used recreationally, most likely prepared in cakes and infusions, says Giordano.

The team scanned the medical records of Ospedale Maggiore and found no mention of cannabis in its detailed records of the healing plants, remedies and potions administered to patients in all hospitals in Milan in the 1600s.”

Senate inquiry launched into abuse and neglect allegations in Georgia's foster care system 10/26/2023

America imprisons more of its own people than any other country on the planet. It also has the highest number of children in foster care.

In both instances, people of color are impacted several times more than whites.

“Georgia Office of the Child Advocate (OCA) reportedly revealed systemic breakdowns within the state’s foster care system, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, with caseworkers not adequately responding to child abuse cases and placement services for victims of human trafficking, s*xual abuse or physical abuse often being ‘inadequate’ or ‘inappropriate.’”
