Our Story

The UAB Neurofibromatosis (NF) Program provides clinical care, research and education related to all forms of neurofibromatosis, including NF1, NF2, and schwannomatosis.

The program is led by Bruce Korf, M.D., Ph. D., who has more than 30 of experience in caring for patients with all forms of NF as well as developing and managing investigational research studies focused on identifying the genetic mechanisms involved in these disorders.

A cornerstone of our program is the UAB NF Clinic, which provides comprehensive care to both children and adults in a multidisciplinary setting that gives patients access to a range of specialists with expertise in the treatment and management of NF and its related complications.

We also support the emotional well-being of patients and families by providing exceptional education and genetic counseling services designed to provide answers and guidance for those dealing with the lifelong implications of an NF diagnosis. The UAB Neurofibromatosis Program also maintains a robust, innovative research effort aimed at developing new treatment approaches for NF-related complications. In support of this effort, our team of internationally renowned and dedicated UAB genetic scientists is actively engaged in the development of new animal models, stem cell lines, and drug discovery efforts.
