Foam rollers have become increasingly popular over the years, but what do they do?

Many believe that it “moves” fascia, but research says this is not the case. This does not mean the tool is without benefits.

Here are some uses for a foam roller that you can implement in your daily routine!

Neuromuscular “release”- Most muscle “tightness” is a result of an excited nervous system causing tension in the muscle due to various reasons. Sustained pressure into the muscle can inhibit this and “release” this tension. Place the roller at a tender point and hold for 60-90 seconds or until you feel a point of release/relaxation.

Postural feedback- Whether standing or on back, placing the roller along the spine can create touch feedback to ensure postural alignment during various mobility and strength exercises.

Platform for dynamic exercises- The roller can be used as a fulcrum, wheel, or base of support to assist with exercises.

It “just feels good”- Rolling the roller may not necessarily mobilize fascia but does feel good which can improve tolerance to motion and assist in restoring function.

Check out a Body Gears near you for more foam roller exercises!

"If someone were to ask me, “What makes Body Gears different than other physical therapy clinics?”, the answer would easily be one-on-one care model. Our patients do not come in to see the therapist for 5 minutes and then transitioning to the exercises with little to no supervision for the other 90% of the session. This not only leads to a poor experience, but longer times in therapy, more money, and lower results.

With Body Gears you should expect:

✔️ Ample time for meaningful hands-on treatment
✔️ Thorough discussions on your condition and the specifics of our plan to improve it
✔️ Input to your goals and what matters to YOU
✔️ Expert critiquing of your movements during exercise to ensure optimal performance

You should NOT expect:

✖️ A multiple patient “juggling act”
✖️ “Factory” like clinics where you’re elbow to elbow with someone else
✖️ Unsupervised exercises where you may or may not being doing it correctly
✖️ Being passed from therapist to therapist where continuity is lost

Don’t waste your time with a clinic that sees you as a number and could care less whether you come back, because they have someone to take your spot. I’ve worked for those clinics, we are not those clinics, I would NOT work for those clinics. We treat individually and our reviews/outcomes reflect that.

The truth is, finding true one-on-one physical therapy care is a unicorn, and well we’re the unicorn. "

As little as 10 years ago, physical therapy treatments usually comprised of heat with electrical stimulation, some soft tissue mobilization, and maybe a few (dare I say boring?) isolated exercises. People improved, but by how much? How long did it take? How much did they spend? I am confident it took a long time and a lot of money. Fortunately, research exists, and things evolved. In this case, FOR THE BETTER. While the previously mentioned treatments are still used sparingly to address symptoms such as pain, their main purpose is to create an environment that allows functional activities and exercises to be performed; the stuff that makes you better, faster. Some clinics still follow the old model, Body Gears does not.

The average person is very busy and likely does not want to fork over a mortgage on healthcare. This is where Body Gears excels. Our treatment approach is based on efficiency. Our highly skilled therapists use their various therapeutic “tools” and a true one-on-one treatment model to maximize each visit. If you’re someone who has avoided getting treatment because you’re tight on time and/or money, Body Gears is your answer. Good health is always worth the investment, let us show you the value.

Physical and occupational therapists serve communities all across America, but estimates show that by 2025, an additional 27,000 physical therapists will be needed to meet growing demand. Clinics in rural areas are already experiencing staffing shortages because physical therapists tend to be concentrated in major metropolitan areas.

To address this shortage, Senator Jon Tester (D-MT), Senator Roger Wicker (R-MI), Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), and Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) recently introduced the Physical Therapist Workforce and Patient Access Act (S. 2676/H.R. 3759), which would create important incentives for more medical professionals to enter the specialty by allowing physical therapists to participate in the National Health Service Corps student loan repayment program. Participating therapists would be eligible to receive up to $50,000 for loan repayment if they commit to practicing in a medically underserved or designated health care professional shortage area for two years.
By ensuring the availability to physical therapy professionals in these markets, Congress can expand access to care in rural and high-need areas.

is just one of the advanced techniques that we use at Body Gears Physical Therapy.

Our paired cupping with movement for a patient wanting to improve her routine. Cupping works by using a pump to create pressure that lifts the skin, fascia, and muscular tissue away from the underlying structures, creating better motion and reducing .

Occasionally this will leave a non-painful bruise, which is caused by an increase in blood flow and is thought to stimulate .

One of the many factors that goes into low back pain is the inability to dissociate your hip from the lumbar spine and pelvic complex, and as a result puts large amounts of force through your low back.

A hip CAR can help you improve the ability to dissociate your hip from your low back and minimize injury risk.

Benefits:
✨Improved motor control
✨Improved strength
✨Improved range of motion

Although an effective exercise, it can easily be done inappropriately and create further problems. Click below to connect with one of our experienced physical therapists who will coach you through the proper technique to optimize your performance!

Our Approach

We have answers based on our Unique Culture of Inquiry.

We draw you in as an active piece of the recovery puzzle, answering your unsolved questions, using your condition as a springboard for creating new techniques, all the while, explaining your anatomy/diagnosis in language that make sense to you. We collaborate with all of your health providers — from physicians to personal trainers to yoga instructors — to craft the best plan for moving forward.

Our team of physical therapists works as an integrated unit. We routinely collaborate about your condition to determine how to speed progress, and are constantly “hands on” — engaging several therapists to perform two or more techniques simultaneously for greater effect. We discuss our clients’ conditions well beyond clinic hours, and thoroughly research appropriate interventions. We’re physical therapy geeks. It’s not just that we take five times more continuing education classes than required, it’s that as a company, we have determined that “Best Practice” means treating fewer patients each hour so that our therapists can effectively employ the very best, and newest, technical skills. Knowledge application means successful treatment.
