On August 30, 2021 there will be an official grand opening to students & alumni for the start of the Fall semester. We invite and encourage all alumni to come be part of this historic event and get a glimpse of this new space that is essential to the transformation of so many young, Muslim lives in our area, God willing.

The event will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by a lineup of speakers including the UMD Muslim Chaplain, Tarif Shraim and multiple University officials.

There will also be ample opportunity to network and make new connections! All alumni welcome!

Photos from our 1st event of 2017 - A Tour of 'The Art of the Qu'ran Exhibit at the Freer Sackler Gallery in Washington D.C This is the first Qu'ran Exhibit in this country of its kind, six (6) years in the making! We saw incredible displays of calligraphy and met with a docent of the museum gallery. Unfortunately the public tours were cancelled due to inclement weather however we still had a wonderful time! January 7th, 2017, 1-5PM - Freer Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian, Washington D.C.

Today we packed nearly 600 power packs to benefit Food for Others, a non-profit that provides meals for the needy youth of Fairfax county. We'd like to thank the University of Maryland Alumni - Northern Virginia Network for allowing us to partner. Hope we can do this again in the future iA!

Almost 600 Power Packs were put together by over 50 members of the University of Maryland Alumni Association and friends to benefit Food for Others. Thank you to all that donated their time and money to make this event a success, and to the Muslim Alumni of Maryland for partnering with us. We hope you join us again next year!

Today's Alum Spotlight: Omar Sharieff ('99), graduated from UMCP with a BS in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Communication Systems. For the past 17 years, he has worked in the areas of Information Assurance, Information Security and more recently, Cybersecurity. He is passionate about innovative technologies, leadership and management and what makes organizations successful. He followed up his bachelors with an MS in Electrical and Computer engineering from Johns Hopkins and also got an MBA in International Business from Loyola University in Maryland. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching and watching his three sons play sports (soccer and lacrosse), grilling amazing food, and spending time with family and friends. In his spare time, he works out everyday at the best gym in the world called SolderFit, practices mindfulness meditation, and loves to tinker with his Raspberry Pi. He is also a die hard fan of the English football club Liverpool FC.

Today's Alum Spotlight: Aman Rahman ('12), graduated with a Bachelors in Bioengineering and Minor in Project Management. Soon after graduation, he started working for the IT consulting firm Accenture, in it's federal practice. Aman takes interest in a myrid of activities, including weight lifting, camping, snowboarding, riding his motorcycle and playing flag football. He serves as our director of community outreach at MAM.

Today's Alum Spotlight: Sruthi Rajarajan ('12), graduated with a Bachelors in Bioengineering. After graduation, Sruthi took up an R&D job at MedImmune (Astra Zeneca) where she is now an associate in the purification department. Sruthi loves to cook, travel, and capture the world around her through a lens. She also likes to lift heavy things and put them down. Sruthi serves as MAM's secretary and as one of the leads for MAM's book club.

Today's Alum Spotlight: Farah Khan ('12), graduated with a major in Criminology and a minor in Arabic. She is currently working at EMC as a systems engineer. She likes to practice yoga, drink coffee, and try different cuisines from around the world. She also serves as our director of events for MAM!

In the final days leading up to the event, we'll be highlighting some members of the MAM leadership who are working very hard to develop this community of alums.

Today's Alum Spotlight: Abdul Saboor Khan ('09) is MAM's vice president. He graduated with a degree in Cell Biology & Genetics, moving on to complete his Master's in Public Health from Benedictine University. In the past, he has worked for the USDA and is currently working for MedImmune, a biologics pharmaceutical company part of the AstraZeneca network, as a research analyst within the Analytical Biotechnologies Department. He loves sweets and ice hockey, along with volunteering with many organizations and causes in the DMV. He is also a volunteer firefighter and EMT at Gaithersburg, MD mA!

Today's Alum Spotlight: Tarif Shraim (’01), graduated with a major in mathematics and minor in CS. His career since graduation has been quite colorful, spanning multiple fields. He currently works as: 1) Director of an online anti-fraud division for a large corporation 2) Imam of the Islamic Community Center of Potomac (ICCP), and MOST IMPORTANT: 3) Muslim Chaplain at the University of Maryland and our beloved MSA, a position he's held for more than 10 years. As chaplain, he's had the opportunity to work with generations of young Muslim students at UMD, providing mentorship and touching young lives to prepare them spiritually and emotionally for life’s challenges. Alhamdulillah for him, nothing has been more fulfilling.
