AANA’s Efficiency-driven Anesthesia Modeling (EDAM) was on full display at the Becker's ASC Review Spine, Ortho and Pain Management ASC conference.

Lorraine Jordan, Chief Scientific and Professional Practice Officer and AANA Foundation CEO; Tracy Young, Director Region 7; and Chris Hulin, Chair of the Reimbursement Technical Advisory Panel interacted with conference attendees regarding the benefits of EDAM.

One of Izzi Faircloth's goals during her nurse anesthesiology program was to go on a surgical mission trip. Recently, she achieved that goal when she traveled to Guatemala on a trip with the organization Hearts In Motion.

"Being fluent in Spanish, I felt that I would have the greatest impact traveling to a Spanish-speaking country," said Faircloth, a nurse anesthesiology resident at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

"In Guatemala, the working conditions were less than ideal, especially in terms of the availability and functionality of equipment. I quickly learned to trust my assessment of the patient over the monitors. With excellent teamwork and communication, the Hearts in Motion surgical team safely performed several pediatric cleft palate repairs. I left grateful for the healthcare system and resources we have in the U.S., yet humbled by the graciousness of the Guatemalans we cared for."
