Closed on the holiday, UMass Chan Medical School will be celebrating Juneteenth on Tuesday, June 18. Come to the Sherman Center lobby from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the badge making and T-shirt design stations. The Sherman Center Café will have a special Juneteenth menu that includes BBQ ribs, cornbread, fried green tomatoes, peach cobbler and Juneteenth punch.

The authors say the findings support other research suggesting more food support could lead to improved maternal and fetal health.

The leading causes of pregnancy-related deaths in the United States stem from mental health conditions. This week, the Maternal Mental Health Task Force recommended creating maternity care centers.

Nancy Byatt, DO, MS’15, MBA, a perinatal mental health expert at UMass Chan Medical School who led the launch of the Massachusetts Child Psychiatry Access Program for Moms in 2014, said there is still a lot of work to do: https://direc.to/kNkT

“I think that the most important thing is that we have made a lot of progress and, in that sense, I am kind of hopeful,” Byatt said.
