How To Choose What Sport To Practice

So you have decided that it is the perfect time to get yourself moving. You are so excited and can’t wait to start. Only that
you don’t know what.
The key to sticking to your work-out plan is to choose an activity / sport that is suitable for you.

How you can choose you are wondering? Read below for some tips:

1. Know your reason to do sports

It is great that you have decided on being active. Behind that decision though there is a reason for it. Do you want to build muscles, lose weight, increase stamina, improve overall health and wellbeing or learn how to destress after a demanding week at work? Once you identify the reason, you will be able to shortlist the best options.

2. Choose according to your personality

There are sport activities that will hardly let you take a breath while others are much more relaxed. You need to take into consideration your personality as well, when selecting a suitable sport. If you are naturally more relaxed perhaps a bit slower paced sports such as yoga, bowling, billiard and golf might be a good option.
Should you enjoy fast paced activities then boxing, muay-thai, Zumba, etc. will be a great choice.

3. Are you a team-player or a solo performer

Some of you might really enjoy the feel of being a part of a team. Being able to contribute to the team or supported by it when needed. In this case, football, basketball, volleyball, cricket, etc. will resonate with you.
On the other hand, you might perform best when doing some individual work. Tennis, running, swimming
the options are numerous here.

4. Do you prefer group classes or individual approach

Group classes are usually cheaper and you have the social aspect as a motivation – when you are tired and need some push to be active; or when you start making friends and you get this warm community feeling.
On another hand, should you wish to have more flexibility, you can find this in individual workouts. You will be able to identify the time you want to train, the coach can adapt the workout to your personal progress and focus entirely on you.

5. Workout without breaking the bank

Maybe at the moment you cannot afford singing up to a gym or your life schedule doesn’t allow you such commitment. Then you can explore one of the below:
- Train at home. There are variety of exercises that you can do such as push-ups, sit-ups, squats, plank, stretches, lounges, etc. that do not require any equipment. Or if you need some, you can easily adapt household items to help you in your work-out - furniture, water bottles instead of dumbbells, etc. You can use online sessions to help you with the list of exercises you should do. Just be careful not to injure yourself by doing an exercise wrong.
- Go for a walk or a run outdoors.
- Use outdoor equipment provided at parks, etc. free of charge.
- Join a community work out. Many communities organize free of charge, usually outdoor activities such as yoga, Pilates, Zumba, etc.
- Or just dance :)

6. Choose based on your health

Should you suffer from any health condition or have injuries, it is highly recommended to first get doctor’s advice on what is best for you.
Also take into consideration your fitness level. Of course, it will improve with regular practice but you might want not to get involved in very high intensity work-outs straight from the beginning. This might be very strenuous on your body and also discourage you.

7. Choose based on your budget

Some sports may be very expensive – the sessions themselves or the gear that you need (think horse-riding, golf, etc.). Make sure you are aware of what you need in order to perform the particular sport and you can afford it. Else go for an activity that requires sportswear that fits your budget.

8. Enjoy it !

Whatever you choose make sure you enjoy it. Only then you can ensure that you will stick to it. Nowadays, most gyms or sport activities providers offer a free trial class. This way you will be able to get a better feel of the sport itself, the facilities, the coaches, etc. Keep exploring until you find the right fit for you.

And one more tip
sometime you might have found the right activity but not the right place. So if you feel that you really enjoy the sport itself, don’t restrict yourself to one place. Try several gyms or coaches to make sure you choose what is most suitable for you.

Stay active, stay healthy !

Tips On Training In Summer

Summer is here – The Sun is brighter than ever, temperatures so high you can cook an egg on the street but you should still work-out. And while, perhaps you go to a temperature-regulated gym, there are some tips that will help you feel better when training in summer.

1. Water, water, water
Stay hydrated. That should be the most important when undertaking any physical activities. 60-70 % of our bodies are made up of water. It is important that you keep this ratio. Make sure that you have plenty of water in the half our after the workout to help your body recover faster.
It’s good to go to your training session hydrated as well. Some recommend having plenty of water while training, as well. I would say listen to your body. You should definitely go hydrated but if your session is very high cardio one then you might prefer not drinking anything straight before it. Else you might feel pain in the spleen or even have a heavy feeling. Test and see what works best for you.

2. Keep track of your hydration level
An easy and effective way to check your hydration level is to monitor your urine colour. Very light yellow, transparent means you are hydrated; dark yellow – you need more water.
However, please keep in mind that some medications might affect urine colour. In case you are taking any supplements, etc. you should at least stick to the minimum recommended amount of water.

3. Take it easy
Heat can make you less active, hot and humid climate may affect your productivity. It is quite possible that you won’t be able to exercise with the same intensity as you usually do. If you feel this way do not push yourself. Start on a slower pace and gradually pick up while you give chance to your body to adjust.

4. Choose lightweight outfit
Get into some comfortable, lightweight and breathable sportswear. Wear clothes that will wick sweat away, keep you dry and comfortable.

5. If you choose to go outdoors

If you prefer to still opt for some fresh air, then make sure to follow these tips:
- Put a sun cream
- Wear a cap
- Don’t go out in midday. Try to exercise early or after sunset.

6. Don’t stop when it’s too late
If you feel any discomfort, better stop immediately. Look out for some of these symptoms:
- Light-headedness
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Weakness
- Difficulty breathing
- Disorientation

Working out is a whole year affair. But make sure you do it in a safe manner in order to have utmost benefits from it.

Happy training from Team Flair Sport Dubai.

What is important when choosing sportswear? đŸ˜đŸŽŻâš–ïž

So you have finally kept your resolution and joining the gym! Or you are a regular one and don’t miss a day of hard training. Whichever option it is, is great that you look after your physical & mental health and engage in sport activities.

Apart of your commitment to your physical activities, the other most important decision you have to make is
.what to wear! Yes. Do you know why? Because sportswear is not related only to this how you will look while training. (Which to be honest is also soooo important 😜 ) Activewear affects your performance and even how you feel after the training. Why is that, you wonder? Let’s get the answer below.

1. Moisture Wicking Materials
You have been training hard, burning calories and of course, sweat. After all, this is what you want when training so you know there is a result. But what you don’t want is to feel wet, soaking in your clothes and your outfit becoming heavier with every move you make. To avoid this you need to choose the right material for your sport clothes. Choose light, breathable wear made of technology enhanced fabrics such as nylon, polypropylene, polyester, etc. (expect soon our article for sportswear materials). These fabrics wick sweat from your skin to the outer layers of the clothing, allowing your skin to remain dry. And evaporate faster from the clothes.

2. Odour
Odour management is closely related to the materials you choose your sportswear to be made of. Some materials keep the unpleasant smell even after a 3 hour washing cycle. So choose the materials depending on the intensity of your work-out. If you are going for a lower intensity activity such as yoga perhaps a soft cotton outfit will be pleasant. However, if you are planning on sweating and burning more calories go for a moisture wicking material that will keep your skin dry and the number of odour bacteria lower. Nylon and polypropylene are some good options along with bamboo.

3. Choose according to the Workout specifics
Sure a lot of your sport clothes may be suitable for different activities. But sometimes it is safer to choose according to the sport you will practice. E.g. if you are going for a cycling or running you wouldn’t want a wide-leg or loose tracksuit that can get tangled in the pedals or your feet.
If you will be doing a high-cardio activity or one with a lot of movement such as boxing, muay-thai, etc. perhaps it will be better to be in a tighter-fitting wear that will remain in place and not embarrass you no matter how complex movements you do.
If you are planning outdoor activities, make sure you take into consideration the activity and weather conditions. If you will work out in colder conditions make sure your outfit has thermal technology; if in heat – should be breathable and protecting from the sun.

4. Chafing
Chafing is a common skin problem caused by combination of friction, moisture and irritating fabric. To avoid it look for sportswear that is seamless, doesn’t make you itch and doesn’t move loosely around your skin.

5. Stretch
In order to increase comfort you would want your outfit to be stretchy. This way you will ensure comfort during training and also the materials will not lose shape after a few washes. Premium brands sportswear have 4-way stretch fabric which means a fabric stretches and recovers both width and lengthwise.
Compression fabrics have become very popular with athletes claiming to have positive influence on performance.

6. Look for Quality and define between Price & Value
The quality of the sportswear is very important as it influences your performance and recovery. It also protects you e.g. quality running shoes will give you the right support and avoid injuries. Your sport clothes will go through a lot in and out of the gym/ field and you want to ensure they can handle it. Also higher quality materials will usually stay longer with you (keeping their qualities and look even after multiple washes) so are more economical in the long term.
Of course, price is important but rather focus on value. What value and what return on the investment you make will the item bring you? If it will make you feel comfortable, dry, protects your skin from the elements, has the right fit, doesn’t get soaking wet & heavy with sweat and doesn’t stink after washing then probably it’s worth the price.

7. Good looks
It will definitely be an added value if your sportswear makes you look great in it. It’s always nice not only to be comfortable in your clothes but like yourself in them. It gives you confidence and the feeling you can conquer the world 😉

Happy shopping.
Wishing you great workouts and stay healthy !
