A volunteers Story :

“The hottest travel destination, Dubai is hosting Jubilee Games 2016” they announced, I filled the form online to volunteer and got an email back form AKYSB Pakistan of “Mubarak” on selection after fulfilling all formalities.
And yes I was going to Dubai for jubilee games 2016, got a chance to see pre games preparation because I was there few weeks earlier than its starting date.

Pledged for khidmat from July 21st to 30th.

Morning 9 o’clock on July 21st I was traveling in Dubai metro; the best driverless public transportation where an announcement was made “Almuhattat Alitalia hi marqazi dabi Altijari Alaalami” which means the next station is Dubai World Trade Center, I had no idea this will become my favorite destination for next 10 days where I will make memories for life . Throughout the travel met many ismailies proudly wearing jubilee games emblem passing smile for no reasons yet for all reasons. That moment I comprehend how true the line is which says “everyone smile in a same language”

Got a chance to work with three different work streams in ten days where the experiences were different but with same feeling of joy.
In Registration, where my work was to hand over printed badges to spectators, volunteers and staff and it was amazing experience; I was able to see the gleam in their eyes while receiving the badges as they were saying “this is the moment we were waiting for”. How can I miss the giggles coming from the opposite side of desk after looking at their own photos on the badges.

In Transportation, I was holding a jubilee games board in hand at arrival gate of airport to welcome athletes and sending them to the right hotel transport. “Hello I am from Pakistan serving as a volunteer, please take right to the main reception and welcome to Dubai” was my line, felt the satisfaction on their faces because this was probably the first memory in Dubai for many of them which they will relive many years.

“Look Pakistan is welcoming India what a beauty of being diversified” said few athletes from India which made me realized how same we all are from inside hardly it matters what passport we hold.

The best part was looking at them saying good bye to each other at the airport because this was the time when they were getting separated for different locations to stay next 10 days. Only thing came in my mind was “One Jamat”.

Working with Venue team, after every game we had to clean up the area where the matches were being played at Dubai Sports World and make the area ready for next game. Because of that I got an opportunity to watch waving flags, cheering sounds, loud slogans, jerseys, team appeals and then winning whoops , celebrations, shaking hands, medals, proud moments. This was quite physical work but energy of spectators was keeping us motivated I can still hear the voice of them which takes me back to DSW in a second without any visa.

Friday July 29th, 3pm was closing ceremony or I can say the celebration of excellence where hall was sparkling like so many shooting stars, energy was high, sound was loud, dances were on, suddenly next to my seat a volunteer said “I am flying back USA today” the other just sitting next us said “I took off from office for 10 days and I will rejoin tomorrow”. Even I had flight in next two days but we all agreed that Jubilee Games gave us more than we expected, I’m sure for rest of my life I will get flashback of beyond the words Opening ceremony in presences of Prince Rahim, title song Dream, believe and reach the sky, Global village, Global concert, Chai with salim sulaiman, Touching lives by AKDN, long walk of WTC, Dandiya night, Zabeel café 5, jammat from Tajikistan was lovely, when Canada wins football final and Pakistan in cricket and many many more.

The theme line excel, compete, unite was very well achieved.

On this day 9 years ago, thousands of murids gathered in Dar es Salaam and were graced with Mawlana Hazar Imam's Mubarak Deedar.

That evening, Mawlana Hazar Imam was the Guest of Honour at a reception hosted by the Jamati Institutions of Tanzania. In the Imam's presence, Ismaili children performed traditional Tanzanian and South Asian dances, representing some of the cultures within the Tanzanian Jamat. On behalf of the Jamati Institutions of Tanzania, President Jivani presented to Mawlana Hazar Imam a token gift consisting of a Masai family carved from a single piece of ebony – symbolising the Jamat's unity and brotherhood.
