A symbol of architecture that pushes boundaries. Parametric design was used to develop the steel diagrid — a framework of 2,400 diagonally intersecting steel members — to which 17,000 square meters of composite cladding were attached including multiaxial glass and carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy prepreg.

Notus Composites developed the FR epoxy prepreg using glass and carbon multiaxials. Approved by the Dubai Civil Defense, Notus Composites EPFR-609 prepreg, in combination with NE11-FR surface film, has passed NFPA 285, EN13051-1 and ASTM E1098 and E84 Class A fire requirements.

The prepregs were laminated in CNC milled molds at our sister company: Nova Composites] Manufacturing in Dubai, before laser cut stainless steel surface finishes, glazing elements, and LED lighting systems were added. The panels were then delivered to site for installation.

Under the Surface of the Museum of the Future

An incubator for innovation and invention, the Museum of the Future is one of the most complex structures ever built. The exterior facade of the torus shaped building comprises 1,024 fire-retardant composite panels.

Clad with stainless steel, each panel is a unique 3D shape, integrating molded-in Arabic calligraphy. Alongside Affan Innovative Structures, .composites was honored to provide the composite design, fabrication, and support for installation of the exterior panels using our fire retardant prepreg.
