The 11-year anniversary of my first and only full-length fiction novel is around the corner.
It is such a bitter-sweet memory when I recall the painstaking sacrifice that went into producing a book that the world would never read.

The entire book was typed out at an internet café because I did not own a computer. I used to wake up early and go sit there until after dark, researching and writing.

With no job to distract me, I completed the nearly 400 pages in a mere two weeks. Editing it myself took another two weeks. There was no Grammarly at the time, and I had no money to pay an editor.

My sister called in a favour from a professor of literature to have a look at it for free. He gave it the green light to be published, but I later started to doubt if he had done any editing to that manuscript. All the typos I'd missed were right where I'd left them. Only problem is that I realised this after it had been launched 😫

The book tells the simple tale of a poor and naive Ugandan girl (Eliyeena Sikuku) with a larger-than-life dream to attend the famous Sorbonne University in France. The pursuit of this dream through social media gets her catfished by an online sponsor that doubles as a love interest.

He or she (the pronouns were ambiguous) lures her to South Africa. Here the plot gets several twists and turns with cases of mistaken identity and being in the wrong place at the wrong time, getting the far from exposed heroine of the story into a tangled web with Nigerian and Jamaican drug lords working with the infamous gangs of Gugulethu. Along the way, true love attempts to save the day.

I truly believed (and maybe I still do) that the book could be made into a motion picture one day. That's why I am having it re-edited and republished. After all, a good story never gets old.

I'll leave a link to the messy version in the comments below and would appreciate any comments on what we can do better to turn it into the global bestseller it has potential to become. It's going to take a village to raise the second edition of this book 😄

And don't get me wrong, it managed to get not only amazing sponsors for its launch but also raving reviews from the 500+ people that bought the first edition, but then again, this was only from Aristoc, the leading bookstore in Uganda. Let's take it to the world!

Could you take the time to read just a chapter or two? Who knows, it could captivate you until the end... Have a read and share a few pointers here and there. Brutal honesty is welcome, but so are recommendations to great publishers.
Save a dream.
