Sharing one more for 2022!

When I started Jo Baked, I wanted to sell that were not only fun to put together but tasted good too, as I had not seen any options in Abu Dhabi stores at that time and IKEA had sold out of theirs a few weeks before Christmas.

Fast forward 7 years later, both commercial and homemade kits are available everywhere and cheaper than what we are able to sell ours for.

We cannot tell you how special it makes us feel when our are ordered year after year and we’re told that “they so look forward to THIS gingerbread house”!🥰

- Day 24:
My Africa ❤️

Gaelin hand crafts edgy sterling silver statement pieces.
Her jewellery, like the popular safety pin cuff, is unique and unusual, just like the maker 😊

This “I love SA” charm necklace has my heart as it's a reminder of South Africa, home country to both Gaelin and myself.

- Day 21:
It often happens that we know the vendor by the products they sell but not their names 🫣

For the longest time, I knew Safaa as the “Jam Lady” at and her sweet chilli jam is my favourite, with raspberry jam coming a close second!

You may have noticed a trend that we like using other products in our bakes - this and is another example of this!

Safaa went on to open a few years ago so do stop by for a , light meal or dessert and grab some of her jams and spreads to go.

- Day 20:
Claire’s sterling silver jewellery is simply elegant - charming handmade necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings for wearing any day with anything and anywhere.

- Day 19:
We are always on the lookout for savoury food which suits Mr Baked’s health and lifestyle needs and does exactly that.

There’s a wide selection of savoury with Indian, Middle Eastern and Asian flavours on offer and Varsha continually adds new to her menu.

With a variety of options ( , , and ) to cater for gluten, nut and seed allergies, we can't decide which one we like the most as they're all delicious!

- Day 18:
Jessica Lily kimonos are cool and lightweight, great for pairing with a dress or shorts and for covering up bare shoulders from sunburn if you like wearing strappy or sleeveless tops (I do 🙌).

The kimono prints like this "Hand of Fatima" and her popular "Skulls” are designed by Jessica.

Although not “in vogue”, Jessica's silk masks were very comfortable especially when we were double-masking (yes, we were one of those who wore 2 masks at one stage 😆).

- Day 17:
Emm Daniel all started with Corinne's homemade garlic paste.
Made with just 4 ingredient (garlic, salt, lemon juice and oil), this garlic paste is light, smooth and creamy and my preferred way of eating it is simply spreading it on sourdough bread like butter!

We also like using Emm Daniel's in our bakes like this garlic Christmas Tree-shaped bread - yum!

- Day 16:
If you’re like me and a bothersome spot appears out the blue (yes, I still get breakout pimples after all these years!), the first thing I grab is Pavanito acne control serum and a couple of days later - voila, sorted!

Keto by Foxxy arrived at a time when options were limited for great tasting and Emiliya's and filled that gap in the market.
I remember customers queueing at her table on market days and she would sell out before the end of the day!

- Day 14:
Katrina at Petite Lamb has an eye for detailed designs and beautiful, enchanting prints.

- Day 10:
John Felton, a local author and creator of the children's books Henry's Fish Tales, happened to be our neighbour at an ARTE, The Makers Market Christmas market 4 years ago and how lucky we were to meet him and Henry.

John's fun stories about Henry, a little orange fish with big goggle eyes, and his many adventures with his friends are written in rhyme and beautifully illustrated making each book a delight to read and excellent gifts for young readers!

Did you know that John's latest book, Hooligan Letters, was illustrated by his talented grandson, Phoenix Felton, and includes a word game?

- Day 8:
On market days, there is seldom enough time to browse every vendor’s table and it took an introduction by Wafa, a friend and fellow student, to discover Tilika at Studio Passepartout.

Tilika hand makes her using ingredients sourced locally and ethically from around the world.
She has a few pigments made from rocks foraged around the UAE - hopefully we'll see a pigment from each emirate😉

The process of grinding, washing and mulling ingredients by hand and then layering them into pans is a lengthy one.
I have an appreciation for all the work and effort that Tilika puts into making each pigment as Wafa and I attended a workshop a few years ago with Art of Islamic Pattern on how to make pigments from mineral rocks and earth.
It took 4 days for a group of students and our tutor, Adam Williamson, to produce a small set of watercolours!!

- Day 7:
I have a weakness for pastry cream - a smooth, creamy custard thickened with starch.
It’s even more irresistible when used as a filling in choux à la crème (profiteroles or cream puffs) and éclairs😋

- Day 6:
Jewellery by Leah ‘s range of personalised jewellery and accessories make ideal little gifts for any occasion.

Leah made a custom piece for Mr Baked’s niece’s birthday: a green beaded bracelet (as green is Abi’s favourite colour) with an "Ace of Spades" ♠️ charm.
Unable to source an , Leah promptly made the charm herself by hand - talk about going above and beyond!

Thank you Leah, Abi loves her bracelet and wears it all the time 💚

Fun fact: Leah's son, Bailey, used to call our gingerbread cookies "Jinglebread" when he was younger. We loved the story so much that we adopted the "Jinglebread" name for both our festive gingerbread kits!

- Day 5:
Multi-talented Malavika from Peace of Bake not only bakes fabulous cakes and sweet bakes, she hand-makes the ceramic tableware to accompany them!

- Day 4:
I am fascinated with the art of and Rowena's unique designs inspired by immediately caught my eye.

Zebratini and greeting cards are perfect for adding a personalised message to our orders and they go so well with our white boxes and packaging!

Last month, Rowena held her first solo art exhibition titled 'Diddling Up A Triptych' featuring original abstract art using mixed media and we were honoured that our mini desserts were part of this special event 🙏

Our tip: you need to see Rowena's art in person to truly appreciate the amount of work and detail that goes into each piece 😍
