🔥 Please welcome 🔥- Vocal pedagogue, Professor of Voice at the Yale School of Music, Director of Yale Opera and Jury Member of Caneres 👉 Mr. Gerald Martin Moore.

In 2020 Gerald Martin Moore was appointed Director of Yale Opera and Coordinator of Vocal Studies for the School of Music. Gerald Martin Moore is an internationally renowned singing teacher and a vocal consultant. He has worked closely with Renée Fleming for many years since first collaborating on the production of Alcina with William Christie at the Palais Garnier in Paris. He then went on to work with Ms. Fleming on many subsequent roles, Decca recordings and recitals. Other leading artists he has prepared for roles and recordings include Natalie Dessay, Marie McLaughlin, Sabine Devielhe, Erin Morley, Elīna Garanča, and Sarah Connolly. He has worked in such houses as Covent Garden, La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco, Opera de Bastille, Champs-Elysees and Chatelet in Paris as well as the Aix-en-Provence, Edinburgh and Glyndebourne Festivals.

Since moving to NYC in 2008 he has been on the teaching faculty of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann program and is also on the adjunct faculty at Curtis Institute of Music . He regularly gives masterclasses at Glyndebourne, Merola, Washington National Opera, COC in Toronto, Atelier Lyrique Montreal, LA Opera, And the Ryan Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago.

An authority on vocal technique, Mr. Moore is a frequent guest on multiple radio programmes and was honoured with an hour-long special interview on BBC Radio 3’s Voices, focused particularly on American singers and child stars. For OPERA magazine, he interviewed Beverly Sills on the technique of coloratura singing. Mr. Moore may currently be heard as a regular host of the Metropolitan Opera Quiz, and is also in demand as a judge for prestigious vocal competitions, including the Metropolitan Opera regional auditions.

In addition to teaching voice, Mr. Moore has assisted William Christie and Les Arts Florissants in preparing the soloists for productions and recordings including Handel’s Orlando, Semele, and Alcina, and Mozart’s Die Zauberflote, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Die Entführung. He similarly assisted Sir Charles Mackerras at the Edinburgh Festival for Mozart's Idomeneo and La Clemenza di Tito, Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, together with Rossini’s Zelmira, Adelaide di Borgogna and La Donna del Lago conducted by Maurizio Benini. As a specialist in ornamentation Mr. Moore has composed countless embellishments for leading singers, notably in his role as vocal consultant to Opera Rara and Decca. An additional area of Mr. Moore’s expertise is the neglected French repertoire of Delibes, Thomas, Gounod, Meyerbeer, and Massenet.

Mr. Moore is featured as a vocalist with soprano Rebecca Caine in a cabaret evening they created and recorded as an album, celebrating legendary stars of the British musical stage, entitled Leading Ladies.

He is a frequent recitalist, most notably with Renée Fleming. He has performed before such dignitaries as President Obama and the First Lady, President Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, HRH Prince Charles, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. Gerald was recently featured accompanying Renee Fleming in the soundtrack for the movie Bel Canto and also coached Julianne Moore who plays the role of Roxanne.

Brian Buch received his Doctorate in Music Composition from Boston University and his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition with an emphasis in Piano Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Brian teaches at Berklee College of Music, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New England Conservatory, and privately teaches composition, classical and jazz piano, music theory, and a unique ear-training system discovered by Alla Cohen in developing perfect pitch.
Many of Brian’s compositions have received national and international recognition, including two second place prizes and a first prize from the MTNA Young Artist Composition Competitions, two Honorable Mentions from the International Robert Helps Composition Competitions and one from the Second International Lepo Sumera Composition Competition in Tallinn, Estonia, a finalist prize in the 2007 Queen Elisabeth Composition Competition in Brussels, a finalist in the 4th International Haifa Composers Composition Competition in Haifa, Israel, a recipient of the 2009/2010 Wainwright Prize, a winner of the Boston University Soloists Composition Competition, recipient of numerous ASCAP Plus awards, admission for the UpBeat Ensemble in Milna Croatia, and a finalist award in the Second International Competition for Young Composers named after Nicolay Myaskovsky at the Moscow Conservatory. Brian has collaborated and recieved commissions from ALEA III, Xanthos Ensemble, JACK Quartet , Balletik Duo, RUSQuartet, New England String Quartet, Yevgeny Kutik, and the Grammy Award winning ensemble Orchestra of Our Time.
His music has been released by record labels Marquis Classics and ABLAZE Records and broadcast on NPR, All Things Considered with Robert Siegel, New England Public Radio, WGBH, WHRB Harvard, Russian Television Network of America (RTN), and Italy’s Radio Taukay online radio for contemporary music.

Praised by the Boston Globe for “a rich, viola-like tone and a rapturous, luminous lyricism,” mezzo-soprano Janna Baty enjoys an exceptionally versatile career as a mezzo soprano and as an educator. She has sung with Boston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Daejeon Philharmonic, Hamburgische Staatsoper, L’Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony, Tuscaloosa Symphony, South Florida Symphony, Longwood Symphony, Hartford Symphony, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Eugene Opera, Opera North, and Boston Lyric Opera. She has sung under the batons of James Levine, Seiji Ozawa, Michel Plasson, Carl Davis, Robert Spano, Steuart Bedford, Stephen Lord, Stefan Asbury, Gil Rose, David Hoose, and Shinik Hahm, among numerous others. A BMOP recording, "Reza Vali: Towards That Endless Plain", on which Ms. Baty is prominently featured, was one of NPR Classical's 10 Favorite Albums of 2013.

An alumna of Oberlin College and the Yale School of Music, she began her career as a teacher at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and joined the faculty of the Yale School of Music in 2008.

🔥 Please welcome 🔥- Oboist and Oboe professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Jury Member of Caneres 👉 Ms. Barbara LaFitte.

Oboist Barbara LaFitte is a familiar face on the Boston music scene. She was the principal oboist in the Boston Ballet Orchestra and held the English Horn position in the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra from 1994-2020. She was a member of the cutting-edge Boston Modern Orchestra Project. For many years, she was the principal oboist in the Boston Classical Orchestra, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and performed regularly with Emmanuel Music in the Bach Cantata series. She can be heard on two recordings nominated for GRAMMY Awards: Boston Modern Orchestra Project’s recording of Stephen Mackey’s “Dreamhouse”, and Danilo Perez’s highly acclaimed jazz recording, “Providencia”. She is also the oboist on the theme music for the PBS program, Frontline.
Her summer activities have included performing at the Aspen Music Festival, Spoleto Festival dei Due Monde, Tanglewood Music Center, Bay Chamber Concert Series, Rockport Music Festival, Monadnock Music Festival, and in 2015, Jean-Luc Fillon’s Oboe Academy for Improvisation in La Roche Guyon, France.
Ms. LaFitte is a Professor on the faculty of Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she has developed an innovative oboe studio, coaches contemporary chamber ensembles, and was co-founder of the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra. She joined the board of the Boston Woodwind Society in 2014. Ms. LaFitte presents masterclasses about topics such as “Circular Breathing Demystified”, “Oboists Outside the Bachs”, “Get Off the Page”, “Audition Preparation”, and “Phrasing in the Tabuteau Tradition”, and “The Curious Life of Nicolas Slonimsky”.

She has performed at many of the world's major concert venues, including the Royal FestivalHall and Wigmore Hall in London, Berliner Philharmonie and Konzerthaus, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Gewandhaus Leipzig, New York 92Y, Cleveland Severance Hall, Tokyo Sumida Triphony Hall, Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory and Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. Her concerto engagements include The Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and others.

Dinara combines her performing career with piano professor positions at the Royal College of Music and the YehudiMenuhin School.

As a recording artist, she has received widespread critical acclaim. Her album of Liszt’s Etudes d'execution transcendante, released by the German label GENUIN classics, resulted in dazzling reviews and was selected by BBC Music Magazine as Recording ofthe Month. Dinara’s debut album ‘Music of Chopin and Liszt’ was made at the age of 16 with the American label DELOS. Her other albums include a CD of Chopin’s music by The Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Poland and the complete Prokofiev Piano Sonatas released by Piano Classics. Dinara’s first commercial recording with orchestra has been releasedthis year by Dabringhaus und Grimm, featuring Balakirev’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
Dinara’s music education started in the age of five in her native Kharkiv, Ukraine. She graduated with highest honours from the Moscow Central Music Schoolunder Valery Piassetski, and the Moscow State Conservatory P.I. Tchaikovsky under Eliso Virsaladze. She went on to complete her Master’s degree atthe Royal College of Music under Dina Parakhina. Dinara also attended masterclasses at the Lake Como Piano Academy and worked with Boris Petrushansky inthe Imola Piano Academy.

Her talent, originality and determination have brought Transylvanian born pianist Adriana Paler from a small mountain village to the world capital of music, Vienna. Her fascinating stage presence, raw passion, artistic depth and brilliant sound brought her 27 competition prizes and dazzle audiences and critics worldwide. Adriana’s interpretation of Mozart got the 1st Viennese Classic Award at isa Baden, she played Kurtag for Kurtag in Budapest at his 90th birthday and excelled with Liszt and Mussorgsky in Puigcerda Festival (2018). She had concerts in Romania, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Italy, France, England, Cuba, Spain, Croatia, Switzerland, Portugal and Luxembourg. The “brilliantly gifted” Austrian pianist achieved new heights during the 2021-2022 season, which featured live streams, recitals, and two CD projects: one with works of Ravel, Mussorgsky, Khachaturian, Liszt, Walker, recorded in July 2021 in the Mozart Saal of the Wiener Konzerthaus, and another one funded by the Austrian Music Fonds with the preparation of the first recording of Wachmanns piano album. She teaches a class for Gifted Children at the University of Music and performing Arts Vienna.

🔥 Please welcome 🔥 - Principal Bassoonist and Bassoon professor at the New York University Steinhardt, Jury Member of Caneres 👉 Mr. Mark Timmerman.

Mark Timmerman, a native of Davenport, Iowa, is an accomplished orchestral and chamber musician. He is member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and recently performed a season as Principal Bassoonist of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He was Principal Bassoon of the Jacksonville Symphony in Florida for many years following graduation from The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. At Curtis, he studied with Sol Schoenbach and Bernard Garfield.

Mr. Timmerman is in high demand as an orchestral bassoonist, and has performed with most of the major symphony orchestras in the U.S., including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, National Symphony, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke's, St. Louis Symphony, Utah Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic and Hawaii Symphony. He performs regularly with the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra.

Mr. Timmerman's performances abroad have taken him to Austria, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Germany, Italy, Japan, Slovenia, Switzerland, and the former Soviet Union. He has extensive chamber music experience, having concertized at festivals such as Sarasota, Blossom, Pensacola, Salt Bay, and Spoleto. His participation for three summers in the Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont included several Music from Marlboro U.S. tours and an appearance on the St. Paul Sunday Morning radio program.

Professor Timmerman is on the faculty of New York University, Rutgers University, and Columbia University.

🔥 Please welcome 🔥 - Violinist and Violin professor at the Royal College of Music in London, Jury Member of Caneres 👉 Mr. Jiafeng Chen.

Chinese violinist Jiafeng Chen was born in Shanghai. At the age of 16 he won the 1st Prize at the Wieniawski International Competition for Young Violinists in Lublin with further prizes awarded from the European Union Music Competition and the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music. He won the 2nd Prize at the Jean Sibelius International Violin Competition in Helsinki at the age of 18. Other major prizes include the 2nd prize at the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition and the 2nd prize at the Windsor International String Competition in UK. He is also a Laureate of the Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition in Brussels. Further more, he was awarded the Paganini Prize at the Indianapolis International Violin Competition in USA.

Jiafeng Chen studied with professors Peter Shixiang Zhang, Jiyang Zhao, Lei Fang, Jan Repko, Ronald Copes and Cho-Liang Lin. After his studies at the Primary and Middle Schools Affiliated to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Chetham’s School of Music, he went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London (BMus honours) and The Juilliard School in NYC (Master of Music) with full scholarships.

The centuries-old Worshipful Company of Musicians in UK awarded him a special Medal for his outstanding achievements and contributions during his studies at the Royal College of Music graduation ceremony. After his studies, he was appointed a violin professor at the RCM, and he also teaches at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the Chetham’s School of Music where his students won concerto competition and scholarships.

He was praised as “not only technically brilliant but also subtle, deeply felt and astonishingly mature” (Nottingham Evening Post); and “classically poised and flashy” (BBC). Jiafeng Chen’s career as a soloist has taken him to all six continents. He has been heard as a soloist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera National de Nancy, Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Ukrainian National Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra (U.K.) amongst others and at major concert halls including the Finlandia Hall, Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall. He has collaborated with violinists David Chan and Cho-Liang Lin; cellist Gary Hoffman; and conductors Paavo Berglund, Paul Goodwin, Lorin Maazel, Paolo Olmi, Petri Sakari, John Storgårds and Gilbert Varga. He has performed solo concerts at Beijing International Chamber Music Festival broadcasted by CCTV Music Channel, Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, Lake District Summer Music, BBC Proms in UK broadcasted by BBC Radio 3, Verbier Festival in Switzerland broadcasted by France Musique, Valdres Sommersymfoni in Norway, La Jolla Music Society SummerFest in USA, opening gala of the Menuhin Violin Competition, the Kloster Schontal Violin Competition, and performed as a guest concertmaster with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Jiafeng Chen’s artistry has also supported humanitarian causes. After he heard the earthquake in Sichuan in 2008, he organized many recitals in the UK and Italy where raised over £4800 to support the students from Sichuan as scholarships. He also performed at fundraising events organised by the British Red Cross. English National Opera, Dance Umbrella International Festival and the Royal College of Music. In 2019, he went to South Africa with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire as part of the “ARCO” music education project to help the students there.

🔥 Please welcome 🔥 - Pianist and Piano professor at the Royal College of Music in London, Jury Member of Caneres 👉 Mr. Dorian Leljak.

Dorian Leljak has won several international piano competitions, including the Rachmaninov Competition in Belgrade and the Novi Sad Piano Competition. He has been awarded numerous prizes, such as the University of Novi Sad Merit Award, Yale University Mary Clapp Howell, Irving Gilmore and Parisot prizes.

Dorian enjoys a successful career worldwide as a pianist and chamber musician, having established collaborations with cellist Istvan Varga and pianist Ninoslav Zivkovic. In 2002 he made his debuts in Carnegie Hall and Boston Philharmonia Hall.

After teaching piano at the Yale School of Music, he continued his tenure as Professor of Piano at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. Dorian has received pre-college music education in his native city of Zagreb in Croatia. Having graduated from University in Novi Sad under Professor Arbo Valdma, he pursued his doctoral degree in piano under Professor Boris Berman at Yale University.

Dorian is Artistic Director of the International Isidor Bajic Piano Competition, President of the World Piano Teachers Association (WPTA), the World Piano Conference (WPC) and the WPTA International Piano Competition, Honorary President of the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) – Voyvodina, as well as Executive Director of the Panopticum Musicum and Musica Ricercata International Music Schools.

Dorian frequently presents masterclasses and lectures around the world and is invited to judge at many major international piano competitions including the Cleveland International Piano Competition, Top of the World Piano Competition Tromsø, Rome International Piano Competition, Santa Cecilia Competition Porto, Enschede International Piano Competition for Young Musicians, Fausto Zadra Competition and EWON Cheonan Competition in Seoul amongst others.
