This is the last one... We promise! 🎉

As you may recall, in October 2023, we joyously celebrated the milestone of our 10th Graduation Ceremony. Of course, this achievement needed a special video crafted by the one and only 🎥 Ruedastudio

Since the inception of the program at the University of Vienna in 2012, we have had the privilege of guiding 232 students 🌟 along diverse career paths. Each student brought unique backgrounds, skills, and knowledge to our community.

These individuals consistently inspire us to enhance our efforts, surpass educational standards, and embrace new challenges, thereby ensuring the continued success of this extraordinary program.

Thank you! 🙏

The general constitution of a society, its tolerance or intransigence, can be read on the example of artistic freedom. Based on art court trials in Russia in the early 2000s, the lecture aims to trace the interactions between court trials, art practice, and legislation. How did individual lawsuits against artists and curators cause a change in legislation and thus lead to an increasing restriction not only of artistic freedom? Which social and political groups are responsible for this norming process in the field of visual arts? How does this affect art production and exhibition practice? Using selected works of art as examples, we will also look at the absurdity of trying to reconcile juridical and aesthetic speech in court, because the value systems they refer to are hardly compatible. It will be all the more revealing to trace a historical transformation on the basis of court records and to show how, in the course of the last two decades, supposed individual cases have led to a standard legal procedure and how the gradual restrictions on artistic freedom are linked to developments in society as a whole as well as to security policy interests.

During the second semester, our change makers 🌟 participate in a simulation resembling a human rights court proceeding, commonly known as the Moot Court simulation. ⚖️

This immersive experiance offers students a thorough learning opprotunity where they gain insights into human rights legal principles. They not only enhance their analytical skills 🧠 but also refine their communication 🗣️ and performance 🎭 abilities.

In this scenario, students take on various roles such as applicants, asserting a human rights violation; the state, refuting the alleged violation; or the European Court of Human Rights, responsible for making the final decision.
