Dames & Dumplings was a fantastic forum to start these discussions, but it's up to everyone in the industry – not just women – to drive change. #AGDA #AGDAgram #AGDASA #AustralianDesign #Adelaide #AdelaideDesign #SouthAustraliaDesign #AdelaideDesignCommunity #DesignCommunity #GraphicDesign #DamesAndDumplings.

Women in Design
According to the 2019 AIGA Design Census, globally 61% of designers working today are women, however only 29% are creative directors. This is a huge increase from 3% in 2008. #AGDA #AGDAgram #AGDASA #AustralianDesign #Adelaide #AdelaideDesign #SouthAustraliaDesign #AdelaideDesignCommunity #DesignCommunity #GraphicDesign #DamesAndDumplings.

This event was first established by @agdagram in 2018 as part of its commitment to making the design industry more inclusive and diverse. As an association, we believe that gender equity plays an essential role in building a sense of community within our industry. It is the responsibility of all @agdagram members to be active participants who drive collective change within creative industries. It is our responsibility to challenge gender stereotypes, call out discrimination, draw attention to bias, and actively seek out inclusion. In 2015, United Nations Women developed a series of 17 goals for governments around the world to adopt in order to reach gender equality by 2030. In 2022, UN Women checked in on these goals, and have since released data that shows we are not on track to achieve this goal. #AGDA #AGDAgram #AGDASA #AustralianDesign #Adelaide #AdelaideDesign #SouthAustraliaDesign #AdelaideDesignCommunity #DesignCommunity #GraphicDesign #DamesAndDumplings.

It is with great sadness that AGDA informs our members that AGDA Hall of Fame recipient John Copeland has passed away. All his life he had enjoyed drawing. When he was 16 he answered an Ad for an Ambitious Lad to undertake an apprenticeship in Commercial Art with a Printer in Hobart. He attended night classes at Hobart Tech. He attended the famous London School of Printing. The experience was a revelation. For the first time in his life he really learned something about modern graphic design. Back in Melbourne, he joined the staff in the studio of the famed World Record Club. He became a lecturer in Advertising Art at the South Australian School of Art in Adelaide. He loved this job. He taught for many years, inspired many young people to become top graphic designers and retired finally into the arms of a loving family and admirers. He was inducted into the AGDA Hall of Fame in 2014. We offer our sympathy to his family and friends on their loss. Help us remember John by leaving your favourite stories of him in the comments.
