💚💛🖤THE SUNDAY WRAP🖤💛💚
2nd XI Div 1
Lucas 6/172 def Ballan 171
Our 2nd XI made the trip across the road to St Pats to play on what looked to be quite a green wicket and we won the toss and decided to put Ballan in.
Alex Newton struck with an early wicket to put Ballan on the back foot early and finished the day with 1/21 off his 5 overs.
Ballan fought back with a solid partnership before Brad ‘Flogga’ Allan stepped up to break the partnership and snag a wicket on his way to an economical 1/29 off 12.
From there the guys kept the wickets falling regularly with Michael Matthews Jr stepping in with 2/34 off 8 and Riley McNeight taking 1/2 off 5, but the star with the ball was the reigning Bernie Davey medallist Vik Dabra finishing with 5/40 from his 15 overs.
Chasing a tricky total, our batting innings started shakily at 2/12, before Shane Lench (13) dug in with Mick Kuiper for a steadying 51 run partnership before Shane departed. After losing a couple of quick wickets again and finding ourselves 5/75, it was another steadying of the ship with Brad Allan partnering with Kuiper to put on a match winning 77 run partnership.
Mick Kuiper found his way to his first ton for the season, finishing up with 110* and sealing the win!
3rd XI Div 1
Lucas 6/197 def East Ballarat 190
Playing at Sparrow and losing the toss, East decided to bat and our boys put their bodies on the line in the field to hold East to a gettable score of 190.
Paul Jones (2/41 off 12) and Thomas Sharp (2/33 off 12) opened up and bowled very well, getting early wickets to keep the pressure on early.
Then it was the destroyer Andrew Gittins who came on and finished them off, taking 4/10 off 4.4 overs.
With the bat, a strong start from Tushar Sindhu (40) and Liam Humphries (23) helped set us up early and it was Mark Gittins yet again stamping his authority on the game to help put it beyond doubt, finishing with a well made 63.
3rd XI Div 2
Lucas 152 lost to VRI Delacombe 7/288d
It was a tough weekend at the office for our 3B guys who lost the toss and bowled on day one. Dropped chances were the common theme of the day and the target may have been a lot more manageable if some of those chances stuck. Leigh Scott (2/48 off 10), Archie Webb (1/45 off 10) and Josh Dean (1/60 off 13) all toiled hard but it was Mick Sharp getting the late call up who showed he still has it with the ball, taking 3/61 off 15 overs.
After losing an early wicket in the run chase, runs were hard to find and the total seemed to be out of reach as we reached the tea break.
Josh Dean put on a well made 30 but it was Matt Langdon top scoring with 67 and showing grit with the bat in what was a tough match for our 3B guys.
5th XI
Lucas 3/286 def BFB 9/71
The fifths went out to bat first and wasted no time, hitting the scoreboard often and early, cracking their way to 286 in their 40 overs. Brad Laurent (23) chipped in with a few runs at the end, Zac Kennedy (60) with a well made 60 at the top of the order and skipper for the day Jake Pring with 67 runs. But it was Dale Jeffrey who made the day his own, finishing with 103 runs and his first ton of the season!
Our bowlers never gave BFB a chance in the run chase, taking wickets consistently throughout the innings. Beasto (3/31 off 7) Dudley (2/24 off 6) and Fawad Alvi (2/7 off 4) all bowled well and it was young Nate Fitzpatrick with 2/1 off 2 overs who helped close out a dominant showing for our fifths!
Lucas Senior Women
7/104 def VRI Delacombe 5/92
Our ladies got their first win on the board in a great showing at the home of cricket Vic Park 4 on Friday night.
After losing the toss and being sent in, the girls started strong and although wickets fell regularly, they kept the runs ticking over with solid contributions from Tam Jeffrey (11), Lisa Ashton (12) and a well made 17* from Tahneal Hughes to post a more then competitive total of 104.
VRI started strong and were looking threatening before Casey Hetherington took the first wicket of the game to slow VRI on their tracks, as she finished with a well bowled 1/19 off 4.
The runs dried up after this point as our fielding kept the pressure on and wickets fell thanks to Pippa Webb with 1/15 off her two overs and Tam Jeffrey, who got the late wicket to help seal the win and finish with 1/14 off 4. But the pick of the bowlers was young Zoe Sharp who just kept hitting the spot and tying VRI up on her way to 1/14 off 4.
An incredibly well deserved first win for the ladies who are making progress at a rapid pace and it was great to see a large contingent of support at their first home game of the season!
Not far away from nailing five out of five wins. Onwards and upwards as we look towards next round!

💚💛🖤The Junior Wrap🖤💛💚
U13 Gold: Lucas 8/120 def. Wendouree Red 5/100
Back to winning ways the Goldies were too good this past Friday night getting a two-wicket victory.
Left-arm quick, Hudson Murnane 1/4 (2) got things going with the ball as Leon Jino 2/4 (2) was amongst the wickets as well getting his first couple of the season. Pleasing perspective in the field was a couple run-outs by the side as everyone knows the importance of fielding and taking these half chances.
With the bat, opener Brodie Watkins (36) launched into the Wendouree bowlers as Hudson Murnane (18), Braxton Jones (14*) and Ned Hines (13) also reaching double figures. Special shoutout to Aaditya Dolar (11) who retired as skipper facing their allotted deliveries.
A great victory and return to winning ways for these young future superstars of the Lucas CC.
U13 Green: Lucas 1/112 def. Ballarat Redan Blue 4/89
We called it in the wrap up last week with a win being just around the corner, and the Green side were paying attention as they got it done this past Friday night on the home of cricket.
9/10 (with the tenth facing 11 of their 12 balls) batters this week retired after their allotted deliveries which is a real credit to everyone in the side about how to demonstrate a genuine even team performance.
Dane Lafranchi (30) top scored from his 12-balls as Naite Vanderwert (24) also showed some over his own power hitting.
Wickets to Lafranchi 1/4 (2), Vanderwert 1/4 (1), Carl Skewers 1/4 (2) and Cody Bianchina 1/4 (2) with the latter picking up first wicket of the season.
Well done Green, let’s go back-to-back next week!
U15s: Lucas 10/125 def by. Ballarat Redan 9/247
Proceedings couldn’t have restarted in worse fashion unfortunately with a wicket falling on the second ball of the day.
However, there was a clear standout with the bat as, Liam Humphries (53*), retiring for the second game in a row. Nate Fitzpatrick (12) and Daniel Arnold (8) chipped in with some lower order runs as our under 15s were bowled out for 125 with a slender 11-run lead.
Co-Captain, Harvey Gittins 5/28 (8), registered career best figures with the ball with spinners Liam Humphries 1/32 (8), Dane Lafranchi 1/26 (6) and Hunter Leedham 1/4 (1) amongst the wickets. A special shoutout to Rjwinder Singh Parihar 1/14 (1.3) who picked up his first wicket in the Under 15s competition, keep it up buddy!
Stepping up to the higher grade was always going to be a big test, but with a batter getting 50 and a bowler taking a fiver… you can see that our boys are up for the challenge!
U14 Girls – Bye Due to Public Holiday
U17s: Lucas 145 def. by Bacchus Marsh 6/235
It was always going to be a tough chase away to the Marsh playing day 2 of the fixture on cup night and it got even tougher when the Lucas innings got off to a rocky start loosing both openers early. With the score on 2/16 Ben Crellin and Ed Sullivan steadied the innings with a classy partnership before Ed fell for a run a ball 36. Lyndan Frazer and Riley McNeight both fell soon after and when top scorer Ben (37) lost his wicket with the score on 104 it appeared the chase was beyond us.
Archie Webb and Liam Humphries brought some respectability to the score with a 30-run partnership. Liam continued his early season form with a well made 16 while Archie pushed through to the end showing some real grit finishing the innings 21 not out. Ultimately the tail failed to wag, and our boys were eventually all out for 145.
Tough week for our U17s but this is a talented side and will no doubt be hungry for points when they look to bounce back next Tuesday against Beaufort at the Home of Cricket.

2XI Div 1: Lucas 3/187 def. Dunnstown 9/186
Shifted to the Home of Cricket, our top grade had no complaints as they made it two wins in a row to knock off the undefeated Towners in convincing fashion.
The “Wild Thing”, Linden Anderson 2/25 (9), had has radar working with his fellow opening bowler, Alex Newton 2/41 (9), a fantastic counterpart. Pick of the bowlers was, Michael Mathews Jnr 3/36 (9), who showed his former side what they are missing with his spellbinding leg spinners.
Both openers fell cheaply, before Michael Kuiper (36) blasted a quicker score which included 8 fours if you don’t mind. Enter Vikrant Dabra (81*) and boom recruit, Jordan Humphries (41*), who put on the match winning 124 unbeaten partnership to steer the side home.
Let's check out the highlights below!

Only sour note to come out of this one was our inspirational captain/coach, Shean Vanderwert, who looks to have dislocated his shoulder in the field. A big thank you to club welfare officer, Adam Young, for his assistance in the matter as we wish Shean a speedy recovery!
All in all, a great win as our top grade continues to get better week after week and push towards the top four positions on the ladder.
3XI Div 1: Lucas 7/166 def. Bacchus Marsh 7/164
A return to winning form for our 3A’s as they were fundamentally the better side in this one walking away with the crucial 6-points!
Bowling first, the Marsh got off to a solid start with veteran Russell Brookes 1/32 (6) getting the breakthrough despite bowling into the teeth of a stiff breeze. Dale Jeffrey 3/36 (8) was amongst the wickets in his 3A return but arguably the pick of the bowlers was young, Tyler Vanderwert 0/14 (6), which included three maidens and restricted Bacchus to a very chasable total.
Mark Gittins (36) seemed to be in a hurry with a flurry of boundaries at the top of the order to get the run chase going. The boys fell to 4/55, before Sam Young (23), Dale Jeffrey (21) and Tushar Sindhu (11) steadied the ship in the middle order. But it would be remiss to not mention Kayne Wilson (54*) who anchored the innings expertly and guided 3A to their second victory of the season.
3XI Div 2: Lucas 3/254 def. Wendouree 5/135
Not sure if hell froze over… but Josh Dean finally won a toss as 3B were able to kick off a game with the bat in hand!
Matt Langdon (41) and Zach Kennedy (37) continued their great form at the top of the order, whilst Andy Gittins (24) continues to show promise at number 3. The Skipper then entered the hallow turf of Mount Rowan, as Deany (54*) picked up the tempo with the bat.
The standout though with the stick was life member, Ash Hardy (63*), who belted Wendouree all over the park with his top score of the season coming off only 32-balls and included 3 sixes!
Economical is the only way to describe 3B effort with the ball this week. Spearheaded by Devin Lafranchi 1/15 (7), Jai Lench-McHenry 1/17 (6) and Jake Langdon 0/12 (6) who dried up the runs; but it was youngster, Harvey Gittins 2/13 (6), who was the pick of the bowlers.
Congratulations to Deany and the boys at 3B picking up their first win of the season, a true testament to the Lucas Spirit and our never give up approach!
5ths: Lucas 0/118 def. Bacchus Marsh 10/110
Two in a row for the 5ths, even with 10-men they were victorious yesterday in comprehensive fashion.
Matt Beaston 1/25 (8) was excellent with the new ball, but it was the Humphries name that continues to shine in the Green of the Lucas as Liam Humphries 3/16 (4) the pick of the bowlers with his cagey off-spinners.
With the Bat, young Liam again showed his promise with 27*; but it was club legend, Andrew Hill (73*), who wound back the clock as he dispatched the Marsh bowlers all over the field as our 5ths chased down the runs, none down within 10 overs!
A fantastic win from a side mixed with the future of this club but also a bunch of club legends, it is great to see the old helping the new to forge a pathway to more success hopefully for the Lucas CC.
Women’s Senior Side: Lucas 9/64 def by. Buninyong 3/146
From playing their first game ever, to now getting the opportunity to play on one of the best turf wickets in Ballarat this past Friday night, our senior women’s side have put up another brave showing for the Lucas CC to be proud of.
Three wicket takers this week, Tahneal Hughes 1/34 (3), Casey Hetherington 1/4 (4) and youngster Pippa Webb 1/23 (3) got a wicket in her senior debut!
Kathryn Maisano (14) top scored with a run a ball knock as one of the more pleasing aspects of this week’s performance was every player got off the dreaded duck and some registered their first runs for the club.
It will continue to take time, but patience is a virtue with this group, the improvement is outstanding to see week after week, let's get behind the girls as they continue to light up the cricket scene every Friday Night!

3XI Div 2: Lucas 10/185 def by. Brown Hill 9/263
The Lucas CC editing studio has been busy looking at this one as our 3B side took on Brown Hill this past weekend.
An early breakthrough from Devin Lafranchi who finished with 2/54 (8) picking up his first wickets for the club. U17 duo Tyler Vanderwert 2/34 (5) and Archie Webb 2/67 (7) were amongst the wickets, but the star with the ball was Jake Langdon who took 3/32 (6) as we restricted the Bulls to 263.
Batting wise it was starts across the board with Ash Hardy (38) top scoring, whilst Zach Kennedy (32), Andrew Gittins (23), Josh Dean (21) and Brett Webb (28) were amongst the runs as well.
