Neurological Physiotherapy Geelong

This week marks two important awareness campaigns: Balance Awareness Week and Migraine and Headache Awareness Week.
As a neurological physiotherapy clinic, we understand the significant impact that balance disorders and migraines have on our patients' quality of life. These conditions often intersect in ways that can make daily activities extremely challenging. This is why we dedicate our expertise to treating both groups, helping people regain control of their lives through targeted, personalized therapy.

At NPG we are passionate about providing our physiotherapy, exercise physiology and therapy assistant services with as little carbon footprint and environmental impact as possible.
Our clinic is mostly powered by our solar panels which avoid power plant emissions to the equivalent of planting 459 trees, using 7618 litres of petrol and 8658kg of coal each year. We operate a predominantly paperless system, are mindful of what resources we use, recycle where we can and keep our waste to a minimum. Furthermore, a number of our staff use electric or hybrid vehicles for community visits and we will strive to increase this in the future.
If you have any questions, or ideas on what else we can do to be environmentally friendly comment below, call us on 4207 0279 or email [email protected]
We are super excited to bring the greater Geelong Cerebral Palsy (CP) community together to celebrate world CP day 2024.
On Thursday 10th October (in lieu of World CP day on Sunday 6th) from 1-2.30pm we are hosting an event specifically for people living with CP and their carers and support team. We have 3 guest speakers who will discuss exercising with CP, tone and spasticity management and local supports and networks available in the Geelong region. Most importantly we will then spend time getting to know one another over afternoon tea.

At NPG we are proud to support Pedal for Parkinson’s Tasmania in 2024, virtually.

For the month of September NPG will donate $1 for every kilometre pedalled by our Optimise Parkinson’s group members with the aim of reaching 500km across the month of September.
If you would like to donate, you can follow the link to our group page https://our-fundraisers.raisely.com/neurologicalphysiotherapygeelong Watch this space for an update at the end of the month!

Introducing Optimise Parkinson's Online Exercise Group!
Word is spreading further about how great our Parkinson's service is, and how beneficial our group classes are. We want to make sure that people outside the Geelong region, or those who prefer to exercise at home, can access this wonderful service. The class will incorporate aerobic and strengthening exercises known to be effective for people with Parkinson's. It is suitable for those who can walk without an aid and complete basic exercises safely.
Want to know more about this, or our other classes? Head to the group page of our website or phone 03 4207 0279 https://www.neurophysiogeelong.com.au/optimise-groups-neuro-physio-geelong
Pictured are some of our Parkinson's therapists who were honoured to support our legendary client Sean's Parkinson's Gala Luncheon on Friday.
Sean was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's disease at 36 years young and his approach to his diagnosis has been remarkable - choosing to trek to Everest Base Camp, cycle and host a fantastic Gala Luncheon to raise funds for the Shake it Up foundation. We were privileged to hear from many wonderful guest speakers with one, who also has Parkinson's, inspiringly stating that "Life has no limitations, only the ones you make for yourself." As neuro physios and EP's we love being able to work with people with Parkinson's to overcome physical limitations and see people like Sean achieve their goals.
Shake It Up is an amazing not-for-profit organisation, with 100% of donations going towards innovative research and treatments to slow, stop and cure Parkinson's. See link below to donate to this incredible foundation. If you have, or know someone who has Parkinson's and would benefit from seeing a physio or exercise physiologist experienced in working with people with Parkinson's call 4207 0279 or email [email protected]

We are so proud to see our wonderful physio Maddy receive the very deserving credential of becoming a Titled Neurological Physiotherapist.
What is this you ask? A Titling credential is awarded to a physiotherapist who demonstrates highly developed physiotherapy knowledge and experience in a particular field of practice, in Maddy's case neurological physiotherapy. Day in, day out, this is exactly what we see at NPG - Maddy doing a stellar job and going above and beyond for every client she meets. We already knew she was fantastic, and it's great to see others recognise this too!
If you'd like to meet Maddy or one of our other fantastic therapists, get in touch on 03 4207 0279 or email [email protected]
It is so nice being in our new space and having the facilities and equipment we need to give our clients every chance to succeed.
Look at Matt smashing his gait training using our specialised treadmill and overhead tracking hoist. Our treadmill goes slower than most, enabling Matt to walk at the right speed for him. And our new hoist and gait sling allows him to do this safely.
Want to come see for yourself, and see what other neuro rehabilitation equipment we have in our new clinic? Phone 03 4207 0279 or email [email protected]
Did you know that it is common for people with neurological conditions to have trouble breathing and clearing their secretions?
At NPG we are highly experienced in managing respiratory dysfunction in the community setting. Respiratory physiotherapy can help to optimise lung volumes, aid sputum clearance, prevent hospital admissions and keep neurological clients in the Geelong community breathing and living well.
Want to know more, or interested in a respiratory assessment and input? Phone us on 4207 0279 or email [email protected]
NPG's blood flow restriction (BFR) training has commenced!!
Did you know there is mounting evidence to support BFR training in a range of neurological conditions? Use of BFR with low load strength or aerobic training can amplify exercise benefits and help people achieve their strength goals more quickly. At NPG we've invested in a world-class Delfi unit and are accredited to provide this intervention as part of our EP service.
Read the latest blog post https://www.neurophysiogeelong.com.au/blog/blood-flow-restriction-training to learn more and get in touch on 4207 0279 to book an appointment.
Enhancing our manual therapy skills with a local expert!
Pictured here is our concussion team with local legend Wade Byrnes from Marna Physio. Wade has shared his musculoskeletal expertise with us over the past six months, through practical in-services focused on manual therapy skills for neck treatment. This has greatly enhanced our care for our vestibular and concussion clients, and further strengthened our collaboration with the awesome team at Marna Physio.
We keep urgent appointments available each day for people with acute vertigo or concussion symptoms. Contact us on 4207 0279 or email [email protected] if you would like to book in.
Pictured is Zoe in Perth last weekend sharing her Neuro Pilates knowledge with our eager neuro physio colleagues.
What is Neuro Pilates you ask? Purposefully adapted mat and reformer based Pilates exercises for people with neurological conditions. Neuro Pilates can be used to treat a range of neurological symptoms, and is an excellent bridge between hands on facilitation and strength training. It is also a great way to break someone's goals down into smaller achievable tasks, in a fun and interactive way.

Meet our next Parkinson's superstar... Dave.
Dave has had Parkinson's for 4 years now. It mostly affects his walking, especially first up in the morning when he is stiff and shuffly. He's been coming to our Optimise Parkinson's class for 18 months and thinks it is fantastic. Dave's words - it is definitely delaying the disease, my balance has improved, the benefits are both mental and physical and the staff are great, they really care for our wellbeing. Dave reports that you just have to exercise if you've got Parkinson's and that coming to NPG helps motivate him to do so.
Did you know you can try our Optimise Parkinson's class for free? Give us a buzz on 4207 0279 to find out more.
Have you got 13 minutes to hear how exercise might slow the progression of Parkinson's disease?
Amy, one of our passionate Parkinson's physios, chatted to Loretta from PulseFM recently. It's an excellent and insightful discussion on why early intervention is important, how neuro physios assist to improve quality of life and the benefits of exercise in optimising wellbeing for people with Parkinson's.
Amy spoke beautifully and it's well worth a listen too - https://omny.fm/shows/loretta-s-front-page/lorettas-front-page-10-april-2024
It's finally time to share some BIG news... NPG are moving into a brand spanking, purpose-built, forever home!
We decided this building was "the one" over a year ago and now are only days from moving in. The new rehabilitation clinic will have all the fantastic equipment and facilities we already have, plus some excellent new additions...
- An overhead tracking hoist for gait and balance retraining
- 5 clinic rooms to smoothly run our vestibular and concussion service
- More space for our Optimise exercise groups, including their own tearoom
- Blood flow restriction device to get the most out of EP resistance training sessions
- Even better parking and access
- Technology and facilities to support education, team meetings and networking
- A huge upstairs space for staff, meaning very happy therapists when you visit
Keep your eyes peeled as once we've settled in we will be inviting you all in for a GRAND OPENING!
It's Parkinson's awareness month and we are going to use this as a chance to introduce some of our amazing Optimise Parkinson's members. First up... Mike!
Mike was diagnosed with Parkinson's 3 years ago and has been attending our Optimise Parkinson's group ever since. It mostly affects his day to day tasks at home, especially when trying to do two things at once. BUT, he always feels better after coming to the class, reports it has slowed the progression of his disease and that he "loves it," especially the social side of things.
How can you support Mike and our other Parkinson's clients? Come join us at A Walk in the Park early May, or if you can't be there donate at https://fightparkinsons.grassrootz.com/a-walk-in-the-park-geelong-2024/neurological-physiotherapy-geelong
