Perimenopause can be really easy if you decide you want it to be!
Exactly 1 year ago today I made that decision for myself that I was no longer going to let perimenopause rule my life. I had just turned 50, I was so unhappy and was really struggling.
I didn't really understand it and if I be really honest I was a bit ignorant what it all meant and I just ignored it.
I did reach out to many people for help and guidance and I learned so much but I just didn't embrace it, I didn't understand it all and I was really overwhelmed with information.
Today I turn 51 and I couldn't be more proud of myself for who I am today. I did so much personal development work, I quit my stressful unfulfilling job while I was building my coaching business and I stopped all the BS stories that I was telling myself.
The people who helped me couldn't do the work, they couldn't make me eat the right foods, do the right exercise, change my thoughts and negative chatter, I had to do that for myself, and I did this for me and to help more women who are also suffering.
I am a very driven person and committed to myself but this stage of my life was really challenging however as I said 1 year ago I made the decision that I was going to change, and I did.
Yes there were hard days but they got less and less and I was having more good days which helped me keep going.
I'm a Health & Wellness Coach and I should know better right, but I don't know everything, I didn't understand perimenopause and if you know my back story I was also dealing with recurring HPV and abnormal cells in my cervix.
I have now learned what works for my body and if I be really frank.... once you have the right support and information I don't really think perimenopause is that hard.

More muscle less fat! Yep, that's right!
Weight training gets everything moving and helps increase your metabolic rate which in turn will help you burn more fat.
Muscle tissue burns far more kilojoules (energy) than fat tissue at rest, very cool right!
If you have hit the midlife slump and you are noticing it around your midsection I can't express enough how important lifting weights is going to help with this. Not just in the mid section, but all over your body.
We can't spot reduce fat but we can certainly help the chances of it burning off if we be consistent with weight training.

I was journalling this morning and these were the words that came out as I was writing about my goals, my visions and my dreams.
What does it all mean though? To me it means this:
💫 Freedom - to do what I want, when I want and how I want
💫 Flow - that everything I do flows easily and effortlessly
💫 Fun - whatever I am doing whether it be working or playing it HAS to be fun otherwise I am going to stop doing it!

What is HPV? Why should you care?
I want to share my own health journey that not many people know about, even though it is quite common. What I didn't know was how much it would affect my mental health, self worth and my confidence which took a big hit.
HPV can be extremely dangerous especially in your cervix and can even cause cancer if it is not treated properly. Little did I know that this pesky little virus would continue to stick around for many years. 10 weeks ago I had another surgery to remove the abnormal cells from my cervix. All of my medical professional are baffled as I am doing all the right things and I keep saying to them I won't give up and I know my immune system will eventually fight this.
What I need to say is that so many women are going through a very similar story to mine and they are feeling lonely, embarrassed, ashamed and are holding alot of guilt and there is very little support out there to support us.
I am lucky I have a great support network but it still doesn't make it any easier knowing that every 6 months I have to wait for my pap smear results to see if I have a normal pap smear. You would think it would get easier right, but it doesn't.
I am here to start talking about a health issue that is so common but women are feeling like they can't talk about it and feel supported. I want to change the narrative and create a community where women feel its safe to talk to other women about while they navigate their own HPV journey.
I can never get rid of this virus however I know one day my immune system will say enough is enough let's fight this little sucker and let's get you a NORMAL pap smear! Immune system goals!
I don't want women to ever feel like they can't talk about this as there is so many other topics that get so much attention and I am so confused why this is not one to talk about more.

Day 1 - Prioritise you first!
As midlife women I know it’s hard to put our needs first however today I am starting the conversation to change that.
I challenge you to really think about this and look at ways you can put your needs first and quite frankly others can wait!
Today I hit the gym and prioritised my health and well-being!

Think about it: when was the last time you did something just for YOU? Whether it's taking a quiet moment with a cup of tea, diving into a good book, or hitting the gym, make time for the things that light you up. 🌈
Here’s your challenge for the week: Schedule at least one hour of "me time." Write it in your calendar and treat it like an unbreakable appointment.

Eating healthy is easy!
You only have to make simple changes and you don't need to do it all at once.
Start with one of the 'swap this' items and be consistent with your choice and before you know it you will be choosing a better option that is going to help improve your health for the long term.
Once you have found yourself choosing a better alternative then start on another food that you could swap out for something more beneficial for your health.
Use it like a game, make it fun and before you know it your food choices will be so much easier and you might even start to notice some changes in your body and start to feel differently!

This week I had another special Guest Ann Whittaker who is a Colour and Image Consultant and works with women to help them with their confidence and learn what the best colours are for you.
There is alot more to colour selection then you might think and Ann went deep into the way her consults work and how much more she provides including coaching women on their confidence and finding what is truly holding them back.
We talked about how important our colours are and once you get that right how much more confident you feel within yourself and the confidence to wear colour if you are usually a black and white kind of wardrobe!.
Ann talked about some of the transformations her clients have had working with her and shared some tips for you to get started on your own colour and image journey.

Want to meal prep easier?
Take the guess work out of what you eat everyday and you will find you may even reach your health goals so much quicker.
If you know exactly what you are eating then there should be less time for you to be snacking on the wrong foods, grabbing food on the run and spending way too much money on meals that will not make you feel very good.
These tips are going to make your life so much easier and you won't ever go back to cooking meals every single night!

I am the leader of my life!
I have done the work, I have shed the tears and I have been uncomfortable to get to where I am today.
Where exactly is that? It’s a space of pure love for myself and confidence that I have never experienced before.
Turning 50 was a great day and it was so empowering and I couldn’t be more prouder for myself.
I felt like this age has given me permission to be more of myself and really step into this amazing woman I know who had been struggling for such a long time.
The key to getting here was acknowleding that I had to do the work, I had to make the decision to want to be a better version of myself and I had to be brave enough to step into the uncomfortable.
Living a life of Health is my number one priority and I will no longer let life get in the way, this is the way of life and I now embody this every single day and I love how it makes me feel and how my life is so much better.
