Carnaby Street and surrounding area is always fun.
Beautiful Flower shop - Goode Flowers;
Carnaby St lights;
4 story art installation in Liberty department store;
Carnaby St mural is actually a map of Soho;
Living Wall;
Everybody needs this department;
Mr Foggs Gin Club
(as in Phileas . . . you know ‘Around the World in 80 Days’)
Last time we tried to have a culture day at thr Natural History Museum in London, we last 5 minutes before the Fire Service shut it down.
It’s a beautiful old building;
The original entry has the famous Blue Whale skeleton;
and the Mammoth skeleton for company;
The Gemstone section has the Worlds largest Topaz (nearly 2kg!);
and the largest collection of coloured diamonds;
We found a locked section right in the very back where I think they create spells for Hogwarts students (might want to check that).
I am well behind with Scotland posts so here are some just to catch up.
Usual subjects for this part of the World . . . Castle, Mountains, Castle, Abbey ruins, more scenery . . . and a bright red mushroom.
What a difference overnight makes!
View from our accomodation.
So anyway, it rained on us today . . . .
Been very lucky so far and the next two days is forecast as ‘sunny and 21.’
Beautiful scenes that I really struggle to capture, much easier when the sun is out but you’ll get the idea. The Scottish Highlands is mind blowingly beautiful.
Ardvreck Castle (ruinous) was built around 1490 and was the traditional seat of the MacLeods. It was built as a fortified tower so it was a battle type castle as opposed to the residential type and it did the job really well until 1672 when the MacKenzies rolled in and belted the living tripe out of the MacLeods. Took 14 days.
In 1792 the castle was struck by lightening and destroyed.
Also . . . saw the biggest, fattest slug I have ever seen.
Moved today from the northern part of Scotland to the west.
On the way, the scenery is spectacular. I can’t do the scenery justice photographically (wish I could) so won’t try but here are a couple of shots anyway.
On the way we passed - ‘Wee Hoose Glamping.’
These are right by a Salmon and Trout river, visited by herds of deer, and a family of Buzzards live in the trees right opposite . . . awesome!
So big travel day today.
Fortrose Cathedral (ruins) was built around 1230 so it is a medieval structure and it is said that this is where the end of one of the MacKenzie Clan occurred.
I’ve never actually seen a Chimney Sweep in real life. Only the Mary Poppins version prior to today.
The glorious Dunrose Castle (thanks Kerry). Still lived in and beautifully restored. The gardens are possibly the best I have seen and the Bird of Prey display was brilliant. . . Seeing a Harris Hawk hit a (artificial) rabbit at full speed is quite confronting. Peregrine Falcon was playing with the crowd and even clipped my ear on one ‘bombing run’.
Currently in Bettyhill where we witnessed a lovely sunset.
Next it was time to visit one of the most famous castles in the UK and it is still lived in.
Glamis Castle is where the Queen Mother spent her younger years, and where Princess Margret was born.
No photography allowed inside as it is still someone’s home but the exterior and the grounds are stunning.
The Italian Garden is a flood of flowers.
Walking through the woods, on the way to the Walled Garden, there are a number of wooden sculptures depicting the MacBeth characters.
Terrific place.
So the day started with a short trip to St Andrews.
‘That’ famous bridge and club house on ‘That’ famous golf course was a spectacular as imagined.
The town of St Andrews is just lovely. It’s a University town with traditional old buildings in beautiful condition.
Not much left of the Castle or Abbey but well worth visiting.
Was cruising around the Fijian Islands for a week or so recently.
Not many photos to share because, well, everyone knows how beautiful the region is so there really isn't anything new to show you. Its all green and blue and rugged.
Everything is stunning and the people of the region are as wonderful as we all know they are!
The boat we were on though was very disappointing. To be honest, I have had more luxurious motel rooms out west.
The ship is being replaced in November and obviously hasn't had any money spent on it for years.
The crew however are spectacular from the Deckhands to the Captain, they all are there to make your holiday as good as they possibly can.

Big Hockey Hit Out Final (Men)
The Stingers taking on The Thunder in the men's final continued the standard of hockey set by the Women's Final.
The Stingers were off to a flyer in the first half but after the break, Thunder came back to draw the game, 3-all.
The penalty shoot-out saw The Stingers take the honors this year.

Easts vs Bulimba
I was only there for the second half so this collection might not be very blanced.
Was a very entertaining half with the Bulls seeming to have the upper hand.
Easts did get up 3-1 at full-time though.

An exciting game to watch with Redcliffe leading Easts, 1-0, at the halftime break.

Saints vs Norths
The score is an indication of how close these sides are (my opinion).
Saints had it early, visiting the circle 3 times for 3 goals, but this Norths side just don't give up and at full-time there was only a goal in it.
Saints hanging on 3-2.
