Flu is a serious disease and it often hits our mob that have pre-existing chronic conditions hard. Protect yourself this flu season and make sure you get your flu jab. Dont forget that ITC is here to help get Aboriginal people with a chronic disease the care they need: medical specialist appointments and gap fees, transport, accommodation, medical aids, nutritional supplements... talk to your health worker or GP.
Hey you mob: do you have a chronic disease like diabetes, COPD or heart disease and need help getting to specialist or allied health appointments? Or need aids to help with day to day life? Talk to your health worker or GP about whether you are eligible for assistance through ITC. If you normally get your care from an AMS, talk to them. If you see a GP somewhere else, they can refer you to ITC which is provided by Maari Ma Health , Yoorana Gunya Family Healing Centre Aboriginal Corporation , Orange Aboriginal Medical Service , Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service and Coonamble Aboriginal Health Service .
The ITC program is now delivered differently across western NSW. ๐ฃ If you are a First Nations person with a chronic disease and you get your care from an AMS, go and speak to your health worker there about supporting you to access the specialist and allied health care you need to stay well. And if you normally access care through a GP practice, you will be referred for specialist and allied health care support to one of 5 AMSs across the region: Maari Ma Health, Yoorana Gunya, Orange Aboriginal Medical Service, Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service, Coonamble Aboriginal Health Service, depending on where you live. For more info, check out the Western NSW PHN website: https://www.wnswphn.org.au/itc โค๏ธ๐๐ค
The Integrated Team Care or ITC program, funded by the Australian Government, aims to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people who are living with a chronic illness, through localised access to coordinated and multidisciplinary care. As of 1 January 2023, the ITC Program in far west NSW will be available to Aboriginal people with a chronic disease via their local Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS) if thatโs where they normally access their health care; and for Aboriginal people who access their health care through a GP practice, ITC will be provided by Maari Ma Health Aboriginal
Corporation under the Marrabinya banner. Since 2016, the ITC program has operated under the banner of Marrabinya across all of western NSW. However from 1 January 2023, Marrabinya will only operate in Broken Hill, Central Darling, Wentworth and Balranald local government areas, and the Unincorporated Far West for Aboriginal people with a chronic disease who access their health care via a general practice. The Marrabinya team has taken great pride and satisfaction from our work over the last 6 years delivering the ITC program to mob by mob with care link workers across all of western NSW. We developed wonderful relationships with our clients and received many heartfelt thank you's along the way. ๐Wishing all Marrabinya clients, staff and ex-staff a wonderful holiday season. Here's to your good health in 2023. ๐ฉบ
History is calling....
We had a great time talking to mob from all over about Marrabinya at the Koori Knockout over the weekend, not to mention the epic football. Kudos to the Walgett Aboriginal Connection squad making it to the final, and to the Bourke squad making it to the quarter finals. And the womens comp was just as entertaining. Hope everyone got home OK. Will you be going to Tuggerah next year?
This is what its all about: everyone having a ball!
The sun's out and our Marrabinya bucket hats are popular! Thanks to our elders for the style guide๐
Taking Marrabinya to the people! Here we are doing the hard yards at the 50th Koori Knockout! Great to be amongst mob from ALL over, watch some footy and talk to mob about the work Marrabinya has been doing. Come say hi!
From a meeting in Redfern to the largest Aboriginal sporting event in the country The NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout Carnival is a celebration of being who we are, in a jubilant environment where love and sport flourish.
A great crowd at Dubbo's Koori Knockout on the weekend and some excellent footy. Thanks to all the mob who came over to ask our Marrabinya team about the ITC changes, sign our petition and offer words of encouragement and support.
โ๏ธA lovely walk in the sun with friends! Thanks to all of our supporters who came along on Friday to try and get some answers about the new ITC program the PHN is talking about: but sadly no one wanted to talk to US! ๐
๐คGreat way to start our peaceful march! Lots of love for this song which got us on our way!๐ต
It was great to hear from some Marrabinya supporters yesterday who had questions about the PHN's new model for ITC, in particular how black fellas who dont go to an AMS will be better off under this new model. But no answers because there was no one home at the PHN. Shame.
We took our campaign for more services for Aboriginal people with a chronic disease to the PHN yesterday, to ask them some questions about their new model: and guess what? They were closed! ๐ (They must be staunch monarchists! ๐) Shame that they were not willing to face up to some black fellas who wanted to ask some questions.
Nothing like a walk in the sunshine to blow the cobwebs away! Thanks to everyone who came along to the Marrabinya march in Dubbo yesterday, supporting the case for more services for Aboriginal people with chronic diseases (not less under the PHN's new model). We are at the Koori Knockout in Dubbo today so if you have any questions or you'd like to sign our petition, that's where you will find us. Looks like a cracking day for some footy!
Looking forward to seeing Marrabinya friends and allies today at the Rotunda, Macquarie St Dubbo at 10.30 TODAY for our second peaceful protest. We will have petitions for you to sign and we have questions that we think the PHN should answer about why spending less on services for Aboriginal people under the new ITC program is better than Marrabinya's services over the last 6 years.
C U at the Rotunda on Friday morning, Dubbo, at 10.30, and if you havent yet signed the petition, we will have copies there for you to sign. We will also be at the Koori Knockout on the weekend ๐
For some reason the PHN thinks that their new ITC program will be better for Aboriginal people in western NSW and yet they are asking the new service providers to provide FEWER services - $300,000 worth (at least) fewer services - does that sound like a better service to you? Bring your banners to Dubbo this Fri 23 Sept at 10.30 and lets see if we can find some answers.
We're back! And we want to make some more noise (peacefully of course ๐ ). Please join us at the Rotunda on Macquarie St Dubbo and see if we can finds some answers! Fri 23 Sept @10.30
Plan your next appointment or shopping trip for Dubbo on Fri 23 Sept and join us for another peaceful march as we march to SAVE Marrabinya from a PHN that seems intent on providing fewer services to Aboriginal people and calling it an improvement! Not on our watch! Join us!
If you are not angry about the changes the PHN is making to Marrabinya, then you have not been paying attention! Less money to be spent on services for Aboriginal people with chronic conditions across the western region. Join us at the rotunda in Macquarie St Dubbo on 23 Sept @ 10.30 and we will see if we can find anyone to give us the answers.
While PHN may say that no one will miss out under their new ITC arrangements, we already know that at least $300,000 less money will be spent on service for Aboriginal people with chronic diseases! How can this be an improvement? Join us again in Dubbo on Fri 23 Sept at 10.30 for another peaceful march.
We are planning another little outing! Come and join us on Friday 23 September as we take another peaceful stroll through Dubbo so that people know how WRONG it is that Marrabinya is being de-funded. We have not given up; its not too late! See you there!
Great to see more Marrabinya supporters speaking up about the proposed changes. Less money for services for our mob: how is that an improvement?
