We hear so much misinformation all over social media about sugar and fruit. Even well-meaning healthcare professionals can sometimes scare people with diabetes into thinking fruit is forbidden. (Ha! see what we did there?) The truth is fruit is an important part of a well-balanced health profile. You just have to learn how to include it safely. Drop your questions in the comments!

💥Tip #2: Incorporate physical activity into your daily routine.

💪🏽 Being active does not mean that you have to structure workouts, follow a specific exercise program or even move at high intensity. Everyone’s version of being active is different! As long as you’re doing any kind of physical movement that decreases your time spent sitting down, you’re being active!

❌Physical activity is not just limited to going to the gym or taking exercise classes.

➡️Swipe to see some easy ways to stay more active throughout the day whether you’re at home, at work, or even when you’re out.

🤩 For those with diabetes, exercise helps lower your blood glucose by making your body more sensitive to insulin. It is important to check your blood sugar BEFORE, DURING & AFTER engaging in physical activity to accurately see the benefits of staying active!

⭐️Other benefits of physical activity besides its role in helping to regulate blood sugar levels can include: enhancing your mood, increasing your muscle strength & aerobic endurance, improving your blood pressure & cholesterol levels and lessening stress.

♥️Enjoy!

We’ve all been there... both as an individual who has diabetes and as a provider that is working with the person with diabetes. We think we have the perfect insulin to carb ratio and then...surprise 💥 ! Your blood sugar either drops or increases unexpectedly and you are left feeling confused and angry. 🤔
What could be happening? Did I make a mistake in my calculation?
More often than not, you didnt. It could be that you are more insulin sensitive at certain times of day than others (this is usually seen in those with type 1 diabetes) or it could be that there is a change in your counter-regulatory hormones which increase insulin sensitivity (such as cortisol, adrenalin, etc).
Blood sugar values are so much more than the amount of carbs you eat and the medication you are taking. Sometimes, you can find patterns and make corrections. But othertimes, there may be no rhyme or reason as to why your blood sugar rose/plummeted. Check your knowledge of carb counting and know you are doing your best to control this complex disease !

Many of you may question why I chose to eat this yogurt that has 12g of added sugar...the simple answer is...it fits into my daily intake ! I dont plan on having any other source of added sugars today so 12g is still within my acceptable range.
It is important to not only look at food in isolation because we dont eat nutrients in isolation. I wanted to try this flavor, and even if it wasnt my “best choice”, I was still able to enjoy it because I planned the rest of my eating habits for the day. Dont be afraid to eat things you enjoy. This is my example of practicing moderation and all food fits approach 💫
