What is ?

Mpox is an infectious disease caused by the virus. It can be spread between people, mainly through close contact.

In Victoria , the monkey pox vaccine is recommended and available for people who are at high exposure to Monkey Pox .

While mpox infection can still occur following vaccination, it reduces the risk of transmission and disease severity.

Preventing a stroke involves making healthy lifestyle choices and managing certain medical conditions.

Here are some key steps you can take:

Control Blood Pressure: High blood pressure is a major risk factor for stroke. Aim to keep your blood pressure below 120/80 mmHg through diet, exercise, and medication if necessary

Maintain a Healthy Weight: Being overweight increases your risk of stroke. Losing even a small amount of weight can help reduce this risk

Exercise Regularly: Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week. Activities like walking, swimming, or cycling can be very beneficial

Eat a Healthy Diet: Focus on a diet rich in vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Limit salt, saturated fats, and cholesterol

Quit Smoking: Smoking significantly increases your risk of stroke. If you smoke, seek help to quit

Limit Alcohol: Excessive alcohol consumption can raise blood pressure. Men should limit themselves to two drinks per day, and women to one

Manage Medical Conditions: Conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, and atrial fibrillation can increase stroke risk. Work with your doctor to manage these conditions effectively

Making these changes can significantly reduce your risk of having a stroke.

How do you know if someone is having a stroke?

Think… F.A.S.T.

The Stroke Foundation recommends the F.A.S.T. test as an easy way to remember the most common signs of stroke.

Using the F.A.S.T. test involves asking these simple questions:

Face Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?

Arms Can they lift both arms?

Speech Is their speech slurred?

Do they understand you?

Time Is critical. If you see any of these signs call 000 straight away.
