The C.L.E.C.S.™ II machine extracts the phyto nutrients and micro elements from a plant using a liquid solvent. The C.L.E.C.S. method mimics the internal workings of the plant to massage the phyto-nutrients without damage from the plant part and moves them and the plant’s liquid matrix into our own solvent which protects the plant actives from breaking down once extracted. The extraction cycle takes just over 3 hours in a sterile anaerobic environment.

Historically, liquid extracts were produced using percolation, maceration, or powdering. These ancient technologies relied on soaking or filtering the plant material over long periods of time, but the process results in an extract that is less active. The naturally occurring compounds (phyto-nutrients) break down as the plant material is damaged and spoiled during the long process.

So, what is skin slugging?
👉🏻 It involves heavily applying an occlusive product onto your skin such as petroleum jelly as the last step in your routine.The non-scientific theory behind slugging is that the occlusive locks in the hydrating products applied before the occlusive, so that moisture is ‘locked in’ in order to further hydrate skin and give longer-lasting results.

Is skin slugging actually good for your skin?
👉🏻 The theory is that ‘slugging’ is applied as a last layer over other hydrating ingredients to help seal in moisture and to act as an impenetrable barrier for the skin, stopping TEWL - trans epidermal water loss. Although anyone can become a skin slugging aficionado it’s generally recommended for drier skin types.

🚨 As our skin is the body’s largest organ, it has important respiration and excretion functions. When you add occlusive products to the skin for too long, it may affect both skin respiration and excretion, potentially leading to congestion, breakouts and an impact on the overall health of the skin.

Depending on the serum or product applied before the occlusive, slugging after applying powerful actives such as retinoids and AHAs may inhibit the way these ingredients are designed to perform and could cause unforeseeable changes because these potent ingredients are essentially kept in the skin.

The skin is designed to function and maintain homeostasis itself and continued long term slugging may not give our skin the choice in allowing and helping it to function the way that it should.

✅ Our alternative? Apply an active Biologi serum of choice according to your skin needs and/or concerns.
