This is what happens when a trailing lead collects more dust than ohm’s Ω. I happened to stumble into this property, which was rewired in recent years by others, only to find that the entire light circuit had failed earth continuity. To simply put it, every conductive component connected to earth on the circuit had no earth fault protection. A lucky find, before things could have potentially become spicey..

The hidden dangers of ceiling spaces. This entire ceiling space had asbestos scattered everywhere, thanks to an incompetent roofer.

The submersible water pump Kerryn O’Connor was using wasn’t designed, manufactured, or tested to Australian safety standards and an internal, hidden fault caused the outer metal casing of the pump to become live, killing Kerryn instantly.

A couple of rusted hinges had left this board exposed to the elements.
The repairs are not exactly appealing, however, it beats the cost of a complete switchboard upgrade, as these particular hinges are challenging to replace. 👌🏻
