CHANGES TO THE 5th STANDARDS

- Telehealth Updates -
After reviewing the Standards, the RACGP has made changes relating to how telehealth is defined – these include suggestions, explanatory information, and supporting resources for practices that offer telehealth. These changes are in response to the new MBS item numbers for telehealth consultations during the COVID-19 pandemic and, also in anticipation that telehealth consultations may continue as a consultation type post-pandemic.

To find out where these changes have been made through the Standards, refer to the RACGP website:

Also, refer to the RACGP’s ‘Guide to providing telephone and video consultations in general practice’

- Sex & Gender Updates -
The RACGP has also made changes to the Standards regarding collecting and recording sex, gender, and variations of sex characteristics – this will assist practices to be responsive to their patients' needs and deliver better patient outcomes.

A new unflagged Indicator that asks practices to separately record (where relevant) each patient’s assigned sex at birth, variations of sex characteristics, and gender has been added under QI Standard 2 [Criterion QI2.1 – Health summaries]:
QI2.1C - Our active patient health records contain, where relevant, a record of each patient’s:
- assigned sex at birth
- variations of sex characteristics
- gender

Supporting explanatory materials have also been added across other sections of the Standards – to find out more information refer to the RACGP’s website:
