Besty's guitar fully serviced and polished.
The playability of a guitar mostly depends on the condition of the frets. If they are uniform, polished to mirror, and the ends are manicured, it will be a delight to play.
New partscaster project that I am enjoying. I am awaiting the neck from Guitar Anatomy in UK. This is an alder, 2 piece body, nitro finished. Pickguard is solid wood, birds eye. K***s are also wood. Will see which k***s I will end up using.
Thanks To Michael at Shredd.com.au, a gold, 2 point is on the way too.
Tuners will be Schaller DaVinci.
A 50+ year-old Coronet bass was found at the Green Shed shop in Canberra. The frets were rusty, and the zero fret was damaged. The pickups were dead. Fingerboard was dirty as possums butt.
Made in Japan. Mahogany body, maple neck and rosewood fretboard with block mother of pearl inlays.
Of course, I couldn't leave it there.
Pickups wound by JJ's Guitar Pickups
All electronics were cleaned, and pickups were installed.
Zero fret replaced.
All frets were levelled, crowned and polished.
Missing screws replaced.
It is a new bass now. I am keeping this.
The pickups arrived a second ago. Thanks to Ben for his incredibly fast service.
The Coronet bass has two humbuckers completely broken. I sent them to JJ's Guitar Pickups. I am hoping Ben can do his magic and bring them back to life.
I searched on the net but couldn't find a similar humbucker for bass.
I might keep this one for its historical value. 50+ years old Coronet bass guitar in SG shape. The body is mahogany. It has a zero fret and an interesting bridge.
7 and 8 together. NGD
I am loving this Hype GTR Elite from Ormsby Guitars
Installed Chromacast on my Ormsby RCOne. It required a bit of modification.
My workshop is evolving
Fretting and setup finished. OMG sounds unreal.
Green Shed find. Daion Japan 1980s semi-acoustic guitar renovation. Piezo pickup fixed and electronics repaired. Frets were near zero, so I replaced them with jumbos. I also cut a bone bridge and nut. I even tried compensating the bridge like the original one. This has been an exciting project I tackled so far. I will finish the frets tomorrow and string it soon.
Q: How far I can go with the upgrades?
A: Very, very far
FOR SALE
The weight of the guitar is 3.5 Kg.
The radius of the fretboard is 9.5.
I bought this guitar as a practice bed for myself and see how far I can take it with the upgrades.
First, I stripped everything on this guitar, including the frets.
The fretboard was re-radiused to 9.5. It feels like an old Fender strat.
Frets replaced with stainless steel extra large jumbos where you can cook eggs on them. They are of course, polished. (RRP $450-$500)
The fretboard is stained for a darker look. (about $100)
I replaced the stock locking nut with a better Ibanez locking nut. (about $50)
Tuners are Gotoh tuners (RRP $95)
I machined the tremolo bridge to accept a 34 Floyd Rose brass block. This bridge takes the strings with the ball; it is a feed-through. Sustain is awesome on the guitar. (block is RRP $40, installation would be around ($50))
Pickups are Seymour Duncan SH4 and SH-1N with blind gold covers.
The SH-1N, aka ’59 neck model, is one of Seymour Duncan's most popular pickups because it’s so versatile. The ’59 neck is designed in the spirit of the original P.A.F. humbuckers of the 1950s, with sweet sustain, and a warm, full sound that still possesses a clear attack.
The SH-4, aka Jeff Back Model humbucker, is the most popular pickup of all time. Blues, country, fusion, punk, hard rock, grunge, and thrash; the JB has always sounded just right, even as new genres emerged around it. The low end is full and powerful, the highs are crisp and detailed, and an upper-midrange bump adds crunch and chunk to heavy chords but translates to a singing, vocal-like quality when you play single notes or solos. Meanwhile, the hot output pushes your amp just that little bit harder for more sustain and harmonics.
The middle blade humbucker is Kent Armstrong Power Blades.
A louder-than-standard Strat single-coil, these work great with high gain/rock style of playing. A big emphasis on bass and mid frequencies. A simple way to thicken up the tone of a Strat.
Electronics are all new pots and 5-way switch. Volume Pot is a switch to split the humbucker.
Price is $750
Some acoustic works I've done a while back. That was my first mandolin to service.
Installing a Vega Trem and a Seymour Duncan Hyperswitch to my Schecter Nick Johnston. I also replaced the pickups with SD Everything Axe. I am very happy with this installation.
For sale 2X12 vertical speaker cabinet.
Open back.
Jensen is an AlNiCo speaker. It is a good replacement for Blues Junior amps
Warehouse G12Q is also Fender 5E3 replacement speaker.
Both speakers are 8 ohm wired parallel. So the cabinet is 4 ohm. I can wire them serial for a 16 ohm output amplifier.
I used this cabinet with a REVV G20 head at home only. No pets and non smoking home.
Very balanced and satisfying combination of speakers. Mids are prominent with enough bass and treble. Heavy Distortion also sounds awesome. I hope, I will not be disappointed with the replacement V30 cabinet I am getting.
Price is $550 firm. I can deliver within Canberra for 10 bucks.
Boss distortion chart. I bought my first MT2 in 91. Pretty much when it is released. I never liked the others. My friends were asking me to adjust their MT2 as they didn't have the capability to understand the EQ settings. I think it is the best pedal and made me happy in high school.
Well that's one way of keeping your guitar safe
