With one week until the Federal Budget, CHF urges the Australian Government to ensure that key measures include making healthcare more accessible, affordable and equitable for all Australians. In CHF’s pre-budget submission, we recommended a range of measures that would help consumers navigate the health system and ease the financial burden of healthcare for those that most need it. The core principles of our submission call for commitments that: 📢 Help consumers to advocate their needs in the health system. 📢 Help consumers understand their health. 📢 Help consumers afford their healthcare. Over the next week, we’ll highlight a selection of our recommendations. You can read our statement over on our website https://ow.ly/PwM850Ry8Vw #FederalBudget #healthcare #healthpolicy #CHFAustralia
Today is World Health Day, celebrating the theme “my health, my right” and marking the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. At CHF, we believe that everyone should be able to access healthcare regardless of where they live, what their background is or their financial status. It’s why we’re tirelessly working with the government and the health sector to ensure that consumers are involved in all healthcare policy decisions. Today we acknowledge the many voices of health consumers who partner with us to make sure healthcare is accessible, affordable and safe for all.
Why does consumer engagement matter in health policy and design? Let's break it down: 👥 Empowering Patients: Consumers are at the heart of healthcare. Engaging them in policy and design processes ensures their voices are heard, leading to more patient-centric solutions. 💡 Innovative Solutions: When consumers actively participate, they bring diverse perspectives and insights to the table. This fosters creativity and drives innovation in health policy and design, resulting in solutions that better meet the needs of the population. 📊 Better Outcomes: Engaged consumers are more likely to adhere to healthcare recommendations and utilise services effectively. By involving them in decision-making, we can enhance health outcomes and promote overall wellness within communities. 🌐 Building Trust: Consumer engagement builds trust between healthcare providers, policymakers, and the public. It demonstrates a commitment to transparency and accountability, ultimately strengthening the healthcare system as a whole. Organisations like CHF, are critical to providing strong national leadership and voice for health consumers by supporting consumer participation in health policy and program decision making. Let's prioritise consumer engagement in health policy and design to create a healthier, more inclusive future for all! #Healthcare #ConsumerEngagement #Innovation

Private health insuraners are pocketing profits gained through COVID and consumers see little value
When the Insurance regulator released its quarterly report on private health insurance last week, we learned that health insurers increased their profits and consumers saw none of the rebates promised.
Australia's Health Panel - our survey group, were also unimpressed, and find private health insurance unaffordable and offering little value.
The Consumers Health Forum of Australia wants to hear your views on important health policy debates.
A quick and easy way to do that is to Join Australias Health Panel https://chf.engageable.net/guest/workflows/770

Tina lives in the remote town of Kimba in South Australia, and for her and her community in rural Australia, having the COVID vaccine is just as important as the other vaccinations she has regularly. Find out more about getting vaccinated from the Australian Government Department of Health website or your local health care provider https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-alert .

October is Health Literacy Month. What actually works when communicating public health messages clearly? These researchers break down some easy steps: - use everyday words for all public health communication - test readability levels of written documents - check the “actionability” of instructions (whether there are clear instructions of what to do next) - use pictures, icons or animations. We need concerted action to ensure materials such as these become the “rule” rather than the exception. Plain language and in-language information simply cannot be an afterthought or “optional extra” if we are to achieve the 80% or higher vaccination rates needed to end lockdowns and return to some semblance of normal.
