As the news has hit the headlines over the last 24 hours, words cannot express how gutted I am to not be able to stand proud as the Conservative representative for ward A on September 14.
There are so many people that have reached out to me it has been overwhelming.
I would truly like to thank my wife, Belinda, for her dedication to me and Support for the last eight years, without her I am lost.

Ali Liberal Team have fought through adversity over the last few years just to keep our head above water with the branch and our party in Cessnock, and I’m so proud of where we are today.
No doubt I am going to take a day or so to process what has happened and then begin the journey around the LGA taking signs down.

I’m looking at the positives, and my faith in God tells me this is him telling me I need to be spending more time with my family.

Thank you everyone for your support and again thank you to my team that have stuck together over some very adverse times.

It was great to be able to attend the first community meeting of the cessnock community garden trust this morning. The foundation is being set for a community organisation that will take on the management and much needed care of council assets.
Well done to Barb, Graham and the team around them.

CBA (commbank) Cessnock is drop of point for these donations - connecting community donations to local kids in need. If you can spare the time to look and see if you can donate. A good time to clean out drawers and cupboards when too cold to go out. Cessnock Commonwealth Bank is the place to take them.

Endorsement of the Liberal Party as the candidate for Ward A at the September local government elections.

I would like to thank those within the community that have put their faith in me to represent the conservative side of politics within the Cessnock community through what has been a few years of re-building.

Although in minority, I have made it a focus to work and bring together all Councillors that have been prepared to work with me, for the betterment of the city.

My main objectives going in to council were to seek a full review of the way we build our road and drainage budget,
Have a full review of council’s property assets, and ultimately a review of all council policy, deliver a new Carmichael Park master plan, deliver the regional skate park and re-build tourist route 33 through my ward.

In 2016, I helped create the strategic property committee with a focus on positive revenue to council and asset recycling, all of which are now in full effect.

In 2017, I created the cultural facilities committee with a view to restructuring councils performing arts precinct into a fully activated performing, visual and cultural precinct, and I am very impressed with what council has been able to achieve with this.

Finally seeing ground broken on one of my major projects, the regional skate park, has taken a lot longer to deliver than I originally thought but it is very close to completion after well over 10 years, and with great help from Cr Fitzgibbon.

I have been able to deliver the transition of the roads, streets and lanes in Abernethy to Council ownership from crown lands, so we can finally take responsibility for that local road network.

We have almost reviewed every policy of Council to a point where it is up-to-date, and council is delivering more infrastructure on the ground that has ever been possible.

Council needed to go through a term of hard decisions, review and reform and now we are seeing the fruits of that on the ground.
When you begin the reform process from so far behind, it is never going to be fixed in one term of council and now we are seeing the increased road building and repair. I look forward to the next couple of years and how much our roadwork will move forward to meeting the needs of the community.

Make no mistake. We have a long way to go to catch up, and Cessnock needs a longer term strategy to deliver for the people that relies upon solid policy and a full team working together. Good policy allows for solid direction, not bad legacy, and Liberals on council provide this.
This council has been able to clean up many legacy issues from previous councils, including the airport, orphan waste sites and we are finally matching revenue with our capacity to deliver, albeit far too low.

I am honoured to have been re-endorsed in the Number 1 position on the Liberal ticket for ward A to contest the 2024 local government election in September, and if re-elected, I hope to further my long term goal of a fully funded roads budget and winding back the unsealed roads policy.
Residents want better roads, curb and gutters, and to do this we need the long term policy that delivers the funding to be able to do it.

Cessnock needs a change of direction that it’s never had before, a Liberal change.

I will be announcing my Ward A team in the coming weeks and congratulations to our liberal team for their endorsement
