Let’s get a thread for positivity and inspiration! Would love any math teachers to comment and share in a couple sentences an they’ve completed in the last year they’re super proud of. It may have been really engaging, authentic, promoted positive mathematical discussion or productive struggle (you don’t need to have made the lesson up!). To start, I'll share mine! The reason students do not value showing their working is because there is a an absence of an authentic audience member (one other than the teacher grading). Providing problems that are contentious and collaborative shifts the view that doing maths is providing answer after answer to question after question, to a view that maths is producing texts of reason, intended for validation/ scrutiny from an audience. For anyone that has problems with my working out on the whiteboard, you’ve proved my point ;) .pentagon
