Join Healthy Living NT with Walk to Work Day supporting Diabetes Australia this Friday 2nd September. Organisers are encouraging Australians to declare “No more excuses!” and start walking for a healthier workplace and a healthier you! Celebrating its 22nd anniversary, Walk to Work Day is an initiative championed by the Pedestrian Council which aims to raise awareness of the health, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from work) can provide for the long term well-being of our adult workforce. Pedestrian Council Chairman Harold Scruby said: “walking 10,000 steps a day is a terrific target to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. “Let’s not make any more excuses! Walking 10,000 steps has been around before the stone age. Taking positive steps can help people reduce their risk of health conditions like type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease and various types of cancer. Many people can walk at least 1km to and from work, set the alarm 30 minutes earlier and create a great example for your kids, friends and colleagues at work,” he said.

CALLING ON AUSSIE KIDS – IT’S TIME TO GET WALKING! ONE WEEK TO GO Children from across Australia will put their feet first and journey towards a healthier future by participating in National Walk Safely to School Day on next week, Friday 20 May 2022. National Walk Safely to School Day is a community initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long term well-being of our children. Apart from the physical benefits, regular walking also has a favourable impact on children's cognitive and academic performance. Now in its 23rd year, the annual event has joined forces with National Road Safety Week (15 - 22 May) to further draw the spotlight on road safety and support the importance of regular walking, not just on 20 May, but every day. Harold Scruby, Chairman and CEO of the Pedestrian Council of Australia said that "until they are 10, children must always hold the hand of an adult when crossing the road". National Walk Safely to School Day is on Friday 20 May and it’s FREE to get involved! Visit www.walk.com.au for all the details.
