Those of you who practice regularly with me know that my family and I also run Full Moon Espresso cafe at Keperra. Recently, one of our key team members has taken a tumble and are badly injured. This means all hands on deck and unfortunately I am unable to run any classes for the moment.
We are doing everything we can to get yoga back on the deck and I am hopeful to have my timetable up and running by Saturday 5 September. Please watch this space.

This week I said goodbye to my Dad. Larger than life, it just doesn’t feel like he has really gone. I was blessed to be with him and my family as he took his last breath.
There will be some changes to upcoming class schedules as I travel to celebrate his life

Did you know that practicing yoga can be protective in preventing fractures and Osteoporosis?
Research shows that participants with osteoporosis or its precursor, osteopenia, who practiced 12 modified yoga poses daily improved bone density in their spine and femurs. These findings also applied to younger healthy skeletons.

Not only does yoga strengthen the muscular and skeletal systems, it enhances physical and mental balance, reducing the risk of falls and fractures. Increased stability, flexibility, and focus make everyday movements safer and more controlled.

Yoga’s calming effects also help lower cortisol, which is detrimental to bone health.

Key Tips:

• Hold poses for 12-72 seconds to stimulate bone growth.
• Ensure muscle engagement for effective bone strengthening.
• Best results are achieved through a daily 15 minute practice

The ancient yogic technique Nadi Shodhana, or alternate nostril breathing balances your mind, reduces stress, enhances overall well-being - even balances blood pressure! By alternating your breath between nostrils, you harmonize your body’s energy channels, leading to improved focus, a calmer mind, and a sense of inner peace.
To try this technique for yourself:
1. Sit in a comfortable upright position with the spine erect.
2. Bring the right hand up, and place the tip of the right thumb against the right nostril. Then place your ring finger in against the left nostril.
3. Take a few breaths in and out through both nostrils to allow yourself to settle.
4. Block the right nostril completely and breathe in through the left nostril.
5. Close the left nostril and breathe out through the right.
6. Then, inhale slowly and steadily, through the right nostril.
7. When the breath is complete, block the right nostril and breathe out through the left nostril.
8. Breathe in through the left, and out through the right.
Repeat for several minutes as comfortable.

Happy International Yoga Day and also Winter Solstice!
The Winter Solstice marks the delicate dance between light and dark, the shortest day of the year with the longest night.
Today is an opportunity to slow down, connect with nature, breathe and stretch. Use winter’s urge for slowness to pause and reflect so that our return to sunlight may be filled with intention.

This has been my lesson over the last few weeks. We believe we have to know all the answers, manage life’s situations, make all the right decisions, but sometimes these things are not in our control. Our yoga does not make us immune to these times, but it does help us recognise when we are gripping too tightly.
Uncertainty and the unknown are inevitable. By tuning into our breath and our internal chatter, we learn to identify where we hold tension in our bodies and minds. When we trust we will be ok as life takes its meandering journey, we can let go, find peace in the unknown, and embrace the present moment with grace.

We have been working with the energy of the Autumn Equinox this week. The equinox is when the length of day and night are perfectly equal - a time where the energies of light and dark are held in balance
From here, the days grow shorter as we start the slow descent into winter.
Equinox is the ideal time to look at what is out of balance and to get realigned. Ask yourself how you bring more balance to your days. Do you practice enough self-care, or do you overwork yourself? Where can you have more fun and play? Do you spend enough time in nature and with moving your body?
Take some time to connect with your natural surrounds and honour how nature supports you and your energy through its cycles. Celebrate how life surrounds you and admire the beauty of nature.

5 years ago I was contemplating a career change from my long time corporate role. At the wonderful , I attended a workshop where we were guided into a meditation to meet our future selves. My future self was calm, peaceful and happy and her message for me was “Do more of what you love”. Within a few weeks I had signed up to my first yoga teacher training. I had always adored yoga, but thought no way could I do it as a career. I had to stop and ask myself “Why NOT me?” and “Why NOT now?”

Fast forward to today and I am so happy I made this change in my life and that I get to share my yoga with so many of you.

There will only be Monday classes this week as I will be on a teacher training course with one of my own beloved teachers Friday-Sunday. Please message if you would like to attend.

Perhaps there’s an opportunity to ask where you have become inert and dormant, where you desire change, and how can you reconnect to your passions and desires? Back yourself, cultivate your inner self-confidence and trust in your own abilities. Make your dreams come true.

I’ve recently added this checklist to the fridge so my teenagers can see it regularly, but is a great reminder for all us. This time of year especially, it’s easy to forget to do the things we know are good for us. This list is a quick little tick off if we’re not feeling great, to see what areas might need a little bit of focus.

Practicing both giving and receiving in class this week. This time of year can ask a lot from us. Celebrating ourselves through daily self care is the greatest gift, a gift we share with others in all of our exchanges.
Whether it be a mindful breath, an early night, a simple walk with a friend or the most grandest of gestures, building in a daily self care routine helps support us at every turn.
We are wrapping up for the year here at In Soul, classes resuming 2024.
Thank you all so much for a wonderful year, your support and friendship and for trusting me to guide you through your practice. It has been a joy and an honor.

Childs pose or balasana is great for releasing tension in your lower back muscles, chest, hamstrings, and shoulders. It can also calm the mind and reduce anxiety. I personally love the sense of bowing down to self, taking the time to honor and nourish yourself.
If cranky knees make this pose unpleasant for you, support yourself with a block under the sit bones or play with a blanket under or behind the knees for extra comfort.

How pretty are these radish micro greens in the Full Moon Espresso High Vibe Salad? Microgreens are young seedlings of edible plants that are packed with concentrated vitamins and minerals and these have so much flavour!
To make your own High Vibe Salad, choose a starchy base - I love quinoa as it is gluten free, high in fibre and protein. Try and add as many colors and textures as you can - avocado, pickled onions, nuts, seeds, add a protein - edamame, chickpeas or tofu are great if you wanna keep it plant based, and a dressing - tahini, oil/vinegar, but I am obsessed with our Asian inspired ginger and tamari dressing! So good!
