Deniliquin Wanderers Soccer Club

Our AGM will be held on Friday 2nd of February, 6:30pm at the Deniliquin RSL.

The executive committee will be appointed for the 2024 season. Past, current and new members (both playing and non playing) are encouraged to attend.

The following roles will be open for nomination:

- Club President
- Vice President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- General committee members.

Travelling over to Swan Hill for our Super Cup match v Swan Hill, play began with both teams working to keep possession.

Swan Hill got off to a quick start scoring first early in the half.

At the 26’ minute mark Swan Hill capitalised on a break through run and converted the opportunity to go 2-0. After a tough first half the team found ourselves down 6-0.

The team lifted to put a goal on the board 52’, via a short corner that was finished by J. Lavars, assist from M. Thomson.

Swan Hill were the better team on the day and eventually finished the match 9-1.

Last chance to see the Wanderers play at home this season, finals start after this round.

After travelling to Bendigo with 11 on the team sheet, we knew the match was going to be tough. Proceedings opened with both teams working to maintain possession early in the half with La Trobe having a few chances narrowly miss. As the half went on we settled into the pace of the match and created our own chances. Unfortunately we didn’t find to back of the net.

Half time score: 0-0

The second half saw the team grow in confidence, forcing errors by our opponents and capitalising on our opportunities on goal. The deadlock was broken when Will King delivered an accurate free kick into the box, taking a deflection on it’s way into the goal. Some solid defending from our back line denied the home team from levelling the scores. Kaan Ozmen made it 2 - 0 from the penalty spot 73’.

Pushing to ensure the win, a free kick was awarded to the Wanderers with Kaan Ozmen putting the ball into the box and Mark Rourke finished the goal scoring chance with clinical accuracy 76’.

Not to go home without a clean sheet the team defended well and threatened to score again right up to the final whistle.

A shaky start to the match today with Swan Hill catching the team off guard and scoring in the first minute.

We quickly settled into the match after the early setback and started to assert some control on the game.

The score remained the same due to some exceptional goal keeping from Swan Hill. The Wanderers continued piling on the pressure before Martin Thompson latched onto a loose ball from a poor clearance to level the scores, only for the goal to be disallowed due to a foul in the build up.

The second half saw some tactical changes with both teams looking to their benches. Unfortunately the half got off to a similar start as the first with a quick goal to Swan Hill putting Deniliquin on the back foot.

Swan Hill continued to press forward and found the net again. The Wanderers managed to find their feet again mid way through the half with some good build up play seeing Kaan Ozmen beating his marker before curling a shot in off the back post 55’.

The Wanderers finished the game strong with a few more attacking chances finally falling 3-1 at the final whistle.

A solid performance from the Wanderers this afternoon against Golden City SC.

The team worked hard in the first half to deny Golden City from scoring with great defensive blocks and last ditch goalkeeping from James Weir. Both teams had scoring opportunities that didn’t come to fruition in the first 45 minutes.

First Half score: 0 - 0

Momentum swung back and forth until the dead lock was broken after a saved penalty fell back into the path of Owen Macartney 61’, score 1 - 0.

The Wanderers put another goal on the board via Bruce Maunganidze on the 18 yard line 76’.

A dominant performance from the Wanderers this afternoon against Golden City Rams. The team maintained possession for the majority of the first half, M. Thomson opened the scoring early 8’ with a solid strike into the top corner.
K. Ozmen doubled the score with some individual brilliance in front of goal 27’.

The team didn’t back off with J. Hart scoring two sublime headed goals 32’ and 37’ to make the score 4-0 by halftime.

The second half opened with a quick goal from M. Thomson 46’ with an assist from M. Rourke.
Golden City opened their account after a penalty was awarded 57’. B. Maunganidze slotted a great finish into the top left corner of the goal, score 6-1. After continuing to maintain possession J. Hart bagged his hat trick in front of goal after another assist from M. Rourke.

A solid performance by the Wanderers this afternoon against La Trobe Uni Red in Bendigo.

The action kicked off with high intensity play with both teams pushing for possession.
Both teams had a few half chances with the pace of the game, leaving both teams open to counterattacks. La Trobe scored against the run of play to go 1 - 0. The team had an opportunity to draw level via a penalty that was saved by the keeper.

The half finished 2-0 after a late goal to La Trobe.

The second half opened with the same intensity of the first half, stand out performances from Will King, Masen Brain, Ash Hart and Jyah Lavars gave the home team trouble breaking through our defence. Two close shots on goal unfortunately didn’t find the back of the net.

Full Time score: 2 - 0 to La Trobe Red.

Wanderers Training tonight will be held at the stadium due to the Rotary Park pitch being too wet to train on. Bring a pair of runners or futsal shoes to train in.

A great away win for the Wanderers today against Shepparton Lushi FC. The first half saw plenty of possessional play and close opportunities narrowly miss. Marty Thomson put us on the scoreboard with a long range rocket 34’. Jesse Hart had a cracking half in left back by denying Shepparton with solid defending. The first half ended 1 - 0 to the Wanderers.

The second half tested our depth with a few injury substitutions. Shepparton tied the score at 60’ and a red card that saw us go down to 10 men at 70’ pushed the team to defend tight. The Wanderers broke the dead lock with a goal from Thomson 82’ who found the back of the net after an opportunity was blocked by the keeper.

The full time score: 2 - 1.

The Wanderers will be back on the road on Saturday 17/06 against La Trobe Uni Red after a league bye over the long weekend.

Today the Wanderers played host to Latrobe uni Black with the rain staying away for decent conditions. A few key outs this weekend would test the Wanderers depth as they look to build on a slow start to the year.

The first half saw Wanderers hit the scoreboard first through a nice finish by Christian. Plenty of opportunities went begging with a counter attack by Latrobe seeing the score tied. Kaan Ozmen with a solid run saw a penalty awarded but Wanderers weren't able to capitalise before Will King got behind a rocket into the bottom corner to see Deni go 2-1 up at the half.

Latrobe kicked off the second half in with a brain fade on kick off seeing them score immediately to take it to 2-2.

For the remainder of the game, Wanderers started to control more and more with good passing and plays seeing more chances at goal. Bruce M was able to finish a good run by Marty Thompson which saw his shot saved and Mark Rourke made the game out of reach to take the score to 4-2.

Windy conditions made for an interesting match today. The Wanderers created opportunities and were unlucky not to find the back of the net.

First half ending 2 - 0 to Swan Hill SC.

The second half opened with some back and forth play between both teams, unfortunately Swan Hill picked up a goal against the run of play late in the half.

Not to let the visitors go home with a clean sheet. Jyah Lavars made a run down the right side and found Jacob Wilson with an accurate pass, Wilson under pressure slotted the ball past the keeper (89’).
