HEARING LOSS IN CHILDREN

Hearing loss can affect a child’s ability to develop speech, language, and social skills. The earlier children with hearing loss start getting help, the more likely they are to reach their full potential.

Signs your child has a hearing loss...
* Speech is delayed.
* Speech is not clear.
* Does not follow directions. This sometimes is mistaken for not paying attention or just ignoring but could be the result of a partial or complete hearing loss.
* Often says, “Huh?”
* Turns the TV volume up too high.

Children should reach milestones in how they play, learn, communicate and act. A delay in any of these milestones could be a sign of hearing loss..

If you have concerns phone 03 5412 6010 to book a full assessment with Tina.

So, a guy walks into a bar.
He drags his feet to the bar and sits a bag on the countertop.

The bag moves a little bit, and the bartender says, " Hey man, no animals in the bar."

The guy looks at him and starts pulling some things out of the bag: a small bench, a small piano, a little book and a small 12" man in a suit and sets them all up. The little man starts playing the piano.

Bartender asks, " What's all this about?"

The guys says, " Well you see, I got this lamp with a genie in it whose grants wishes, but he's a little hard of hearing."

The Bartender grabs the lamp from him and rubs it saying, " I wish I had a million bucks!"

All of a sudden, the whole bar is filled with ducks, overflowing into the outside of the bar and into the street.

Bartender asks, " What the hell was that man?"

The guy looks up at him sympathy in his eyes and says, " I told you he's hard of hearing. What do you think I actually wished for a 12" pianist."

Earwax Blockage

The ear canal is lined with hair follicles and glands that produce a waxy oil called cerumen. Sometimes the glands produce more wax than can be easily excreted out of the ear. This extra wax may harden within the ear canal and block the ear.
If you try to get the wax out with a cotton swab or other object, you may end up pushing it further into your ear...

Signs and symptoms of earwax blockage may include:
• Earache
• Feeling of fullness in the ear
• Ringing or noises in the ear (tinnitus)
• Hearing loss
• Dizziness
• Cough
• Itchiness in the ear
• Odor or discharge in the ear
• Pain or infection in the ear

At Echuca Moama Hearing we use micro suction and or curettage techniques, safe and effective methods of wax removal performed under direct vision. Tina is trained in wax removal and will refer on if your ears require medical treatment. She will also give you some management advice to minimize wax impaction.

For an appointment you can contact us on 03 5412 6010.

Earwax!
Watching the local news last night reminded me of how inaccurate the news can be. They were reporting on the dangers of airpods and headphones. Yes these can certainly damage your hearing if you listen to music at loud levels. The general rule is if you can’t hear someone talking to you whilst listening to music or they can hear your music it is too loud.
However the news was reporting that they can push the wax in and damage your hearing. This is not true. Yes they can stop the wax coming out and yes they can push wax in but that doesn’t cause permanent hearing loss ( like noise does). Wax can be removed safely and effectively using micro suction. If you are concerned that wax is affecting your hearing make an appointment at echuca Moama Hearing to have it removed.
