The latest iteration of my biomaterial research is currently exhibited in a group show titled ‘Alternative Provisions’, curated by , featuring the works of , James Walsh, and Yu-Fang Chi. There will be a finissage on the final day, 2 - 4pm on Saturday, March 26, 2022. All welcome.
Alternative Provisions presents the work of designers and makers expanding material practice as an act of making good. The exhibition explores how unexpected and under-utilised materials, driven by the notion of ‘reuse’, are developed and used in interesting ways by today’s makers.
The exhibitors each forage for their material, whether organic matter or discarded waste product, to create works that offer production alternatives, as well as a means to tell new stories.
By joining these makers in their search for more mindful provisions, we are lead to re-evaluate how we engage with materials for production and the potential presented by seeking conscious alternatives.
Presented as part of Design Week, Alternative Provisions joins the broader conversation on the environmental implications of human presence and the revaluation of our actions. Let’s make good on our responsibilities to the environment through creative innovation. (Text via Craft Victoria website).

It’s a little known fact I’m a Great Uncle. I know right! But surely I’m waaaay too bright eyed and bushy tailed for such middle aged rights of passage — Well evidently baby Lua (meaning moon in Portuguese - and who was born on the full moon) puts a spring in my step! Turns out my regular niece, (who is also great), is not only an intelligent, kind, beautiful mother, lawyer and yogi, but she also knows a thing or two about nutrition and specifically nuts-trition! So much so, that she’s now moving hell and high-water to bring ethically sourced Baru nuts from Brazil (AKA the patrilineal homeland of my Great Niece Lua) and I, endeavouring to live up to my newfound Great Uncle status, am shamelessly spruking these nuts to you, my Insta-pals, because a) they’re packed with antioxidants and a wonderful combo of vitamins and minerals (including calcium, iron, potassium, sodium, zinc and vitamin E) and b) because I want baby Lua to have the best nuts life possible!
