Exactly a year ago today at precicely 1.14pm, Andre was birthed (very qu**ky) into the world at St Vincent's Private Hospital in Fitzroy ☺️

Marjia's waters were broken at 10am and he was born just over 3 hours later! Only 5 pushes from his amazing mum and he was here ✨

I also had the pleasure of delivering his big sister in 2018 🥰

Braxton hicks are common in pregnancy, particularly during the third trimester. Sometimes misinterpreted as the beginnings of labour, it can be helpful to understand what they are!

Firstly, what are contractions?
Regular, painful & rhythmic sensations, as the uterus contracts to cause changes to the cervix (softening, and opening). Contractions will increase in intensity & frequency as the body progresses into labour.

Braxton hicks:
Usually painless but can be very uncomfortable. Often irregular and not rhythmic, these sensations are unpredictable and do not cause changes to the cervix.
Women often call these 'practice contractions' as the uterus is preparing for birth.
