Are you struggling to understand your baby’s sleep patterns? You’re not alone! Join us at our upcoming workshop where we will dive deep into this crucial topic. Our special guest speaker, Maria, has over 15 years in early childhood education and Montessori training, and is passionate about shaping the critical early years of a child’s development. She’ll be joining our second session to share her knowledge on creating healthy sleep habits for your infant.

In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek 👀 Swipe to point number 6—it’s crucial.

🌙 Firstly, it’s important to view sleep as a process rather than something you can simply control with a method. I don’t believe in any one-size-fits-all approach. It’s essential to understand that there is a direct link between your child’s daytime activities and their sleep patterns.

🏠 In many homes, bedtime routines don’t always align with a child’s needs due to various factors like parents’ work schedules or quarantine situations. This highlights the need for a somewhat consistent routine. Establishing cues that signal to your child that night-time is approaching can help. Creating a calm, dark, and quiet environment is key.

🤱 Another important point is that while sleep is restorative, it also involves a period of separation from parents, which can be challenging. It’s crucial for your child to feel safe, secure, and supported at bedtime. Co-sleeping can be a helpful strategy in the early months or years. If you choose not to co-sleep, make sure to respond to your child when they call.

📖 From this, you can see the importance of routine stability: preparing the sleep environment and using soothing words, songs, or stories can help your child understand that it’s time to sleep. Even if they don’t fully grasp the words, they will respond to the calm tone and routine.

🚫 Lastly, avoid leaving your baby in a seated sleep position like a car seat for extended periods, as it can hinder motor development and pose a risk of positional asphyxia.

❓Do you have a routine in place? And how are you sleeping?

One of the most recurring questions I receive from parents is about the importance of laying babies on the floor. 👶

For adults, play might seem like just another activity, but for babies, play is essential for their physical and emotional development. 🌱 It arises spontaneously, allowing them to take the initiative in a trusted and free environment. 🧸 Through play, they also resolve conflicts and learn about textures, flavors, temperatures, and social interactions. 🌈

However, for this to happen, the role of the adult should be one of INDIRECT INTERVENTIONS: preparing the environment, placing appropriate materials for the child’s developmental stage, observing, and being emotionally available. 👀 Adults should not generate the play (e.g., “Look what I did, can you do it too?” or “Make this car go around the track”). Instead, they can promote play by placing objects in specific spaces without directing the child’s activities. 🧩

Emmi Pikler suggests that the first play object should be a cloth handkerchief (as seen in the images) placed near the baby in a pyramid shape. NOTHING ELSE for a few months, then you can place 3-4 more objects in a crown shape also near the baby. By observing and accompanying in this way, we allow our children to grow with autonomy. 🌟

Do you sit on the floor to watch your children play? I suggest next time, don’t initiate the play and see what emerges. Let me know what happens! 🪁

🌟 My journey through motherhood has been a rollercoaster, with two completely different experiences during my postpartum periods. The first time, I was far away from my two groups of friends, who were on different continents. We had to move for work when I was 30 weeks pregnant (yes, 30!). I was one of the first mums in all my friend groups, navigating everything on my own.

Something positive I found in that first postpartum period was creating virtual networks with mum friends around the world. Fun fact, those virtual chats are now my most active WhatsApp groups!

Fast forward two years, and my second postpartum experience was a world apart. Back in Australia, surrounded by friends who had already become parents, I felt an immense support network. One of my closest friends and I shared our pregnancies, and now our kids are besties. This community even helped care for my eldest when the little one was born, as we had no family close by. They became our family, and their kids are like siblings to mine.

I’ve found having a tribe around me during motherhood is invaluable. It had brought me emotional support, practical advice, and knowledge sharing. It has helped me reduce stress, enhance confidence, and foster personal growth. It’s essential for social connection and the best is that these bonds often lead to lifelong friendships!

Swipe through to discover my top 8 reasons why every mother and mother-to-be needs a tribe.

Have you found your tribe? Share your experiences and thoughts in the comments below! We’d love to hear your stories. 👇✨

Pretend play is an essential aspect of a child's development 🧠, as it allows children to explore their creativity🎢, imagination 💭, and social skills 🎭. Parents and caregivers play a critical role in supporting children's development through pretend play. By facilitating objects like open-ended toys 📦 and costumes 🎎, parents can encourage imaginative play and provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children to explore their emotions, creativity, and social skills 👨‍👨‍👧‍👧.

So, if you believe in the power of pretend play and its benefits for children's development, let's take action and prioritize this type of play in our children's lives 🧜🏻‍♂️. Let's give them the time, space, and resources to engage in imaginative play and watch as they develop into confident, empathetic, and resilient individuals 🌱. Together, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive through the power of pretend play and develop into confident, creative, and compassionate individuals💫
