Loved the launch event for the Geelong Small Business Festival. 💚 I went especially to see Todd Sampson, who did not disappoint. He was everything you'd hope for. Entertaining, charismatic, funny, & fascinating. 👏🏻 If you've not seen Body Hack or Redesign My Brain, then check them out.
👀 Watch this short 1.19min video to listen about the law of least effort 🧠
Very impressed that from a back corner table I was able to capture this handheld. If you know anything about videography, you'd know that's crazy awesome! 💚
This week I attended the launch event for . Todd Sampson was the amazing draw card. Brilliant to listen to him in person! He talked about the challenges he does to retrain his mind. How putting himself in uncomfortable situations forces it to cope. (I think I'll stick to brushing my teeth with my left hand).
Couldn't resist taking my camera with me. Amazed what it can capture handheld with a telephoto lens!
The festival runs through out August. Check it out; gsbf.com.au
In the video: speaker Todd Sampson, MC Roxie Bennett - Life Changer, panel; Natural Supply Co, Funk by Botanical Brew, Greenhouse Interiors, & Ruck Agency. Thank You to the hosts City of Greater Geelong, & the Eco Dev Geelong team.
Scratching your head trying to turn your audience into customers? 🤷🏻♀️ Inspire your audience with a lifestyle video! 😃
Putting your product on a clean backdrop is awesome for your website. But for socials, show don't tell. 👍🏻 Have someone wear or use your product. Help your audience visualise 👀 how your awesome product fits into their life. Motivate them to take action by showing them what it looks & feels like to be your customer.
Want to take it up another level❓Of course you do. Your savvy like that❗️Create a story or adventure for a character (that appeals to your audience). And add a voice over 🎙 to deliver a key message. Story is everything. BOOOOM 🎤 *mic drop*

A large part of what I do, is working out what YOU want. 🤔 What look & feel should YOUR video have? What purpose does it have?
In this case, it was to capture the guest speaker Samuel Johnson, the fashion parade, the gorgeous influencers involved in the evening. To capture the fun vibe of the night 🥳 with an event highlight video.
The best part of each video project is when I hit the nail on the head. 🔨 I know that's happened when my voice mail is filled with glowing words 💚 like "incredible, amazing, creative flair, love it, can't wait to work together again". 🥰 That's enough to make a girl blush. 😊
Honestly in this case my job was made easy. The venue was stunning, the decorations spectacular. EVERYTHING was 10/10. Thank you Sara, from .collective.hub, for including me in the Love Your Sister event.
Who said corporate has to be predictable. 🤔 I loved when wanted a video shoot that shares who they are outside the office. 👏🏻 What a brilliant way to share an interesting 'about' video for their website (& socials). 👍🏻
If your stuck for how to add video to your website, don't forget the about page or staff section. Humanising your team makes them relatable, likeable, & memorable.
Capturing BTS details is one of my favourite things to do. It gives your audience an exciting sneak peek at your new range. You get video content beyond the photographs. It's a great way to create 'story' beyond a still image.
A great location, stunning models, a couple of stylists, a gorgeous product range = MAGIC!!

What a fun way to personalise your team and introduce staff. In just 22 seconds you know that Justine values family & loves taking her dog for walks on the beach. She's also very involved with the community. Check out how in the post below.
Nicky Buckley speaking about how others might believe in you when you doubt your own abilities. Taking a leap of faith into the unknown. Super inspiring. I'm just sorry I didn't record more. This was just 30 seconds of test footage from my new camera. The room was super dark. I was just hand holding the camera. And hoping for the best. I'm officially a bit in love with my camera upgrade. 4K footage meant I can zoom/pan around in post production. Very fancy.
I left the house to attend an event. And it was awesome! The GWBC event was themed 'empowering women to harness their strengths & find their voice'. Very inspiring and lots great tips & advice.
As an introvert, attending events (on my own) and chatting to others doesn't come naturally. But I am a friendly & curious person, so I went. I took my camera to keep me company. Turns out there were lots of lovely women in the room to mingle with.
Check out some of the photos I took. The official photographer was the gorgeous Adrienne from Little Black Rabbit. I follow her work and was grateful to meet her in person.
Venue Capri Geelong.
It was such a joy to create a pouring video of Atze's Corner Wines Zen Master Shiraz. To elevate this premium bottle, I added motion, darkened the scene, & added glowy red lights. Voila. 🍷 The best part, I may have enjoyed a glass or two after the Zen Master's filming debut. So smooth and delicious.
Thank you to for the helping with the actual pouring part. Stellar hand modelling. 👏😃 And thanks Atze's for being such a great client to work with.
Cheers.
Anyone else taking this time to do online workshops? In various groups I'm noticing a theme. People are keen to 'level up' their photography. They automatically assume they need a bigger (heavier) camera. This makes me sad. Because it's often a better lens, and understanding composition & lighting that will make a bigger difference. Meanwhile I'm on the flip side eager to create a lightweight setup.
This waterfall was at the bottom of 260 steps. Can you guess how I captured it? Most would assume a dslr, a filter (for long exposure), & a sturdy tripod. And I saw a couple of people lugging those up and down the steps. Would you have guessed my set up was an iPhone? So much lighter to carry!
This photo is a 15 second exposure using my iPhone, a Joby Gorillapod, earphones as a remote, and a $3 app called Slow Shutter. Yes you can apply a long exposure effect to live photos afterwards, but this app created better quality photos. The size of the Gorillapod meant I got a great low angle showing foreground for extra depth (& interest) in the image.
Did you know it's rare for a Landscape Photographer to click a photo and call it done. Beyond the gear, editing is a key part of the process. Swipe to see my before/after edit comparison. I edited this iPhone photo in Lightroom. Besides the global changes, I also did many local adjustments. (Each dot is a local change). EG the original photo was very noisy in the bottom LHS. Decreasing the texture, clarity, sharpness and noise helped remove the noise that was distracting from the smooth look I wanted.
I should point out, if you are keen to print your photos, a dslr is probably the way to go. But if your photos are intended for social media, don't assume to have to go heavier to get better photos.
PS I have to teach my husband to take BTS photos of me doing my thing. I wish I could show you how sweet this little set up was in action.
I love seeing the Atze's Corner Wines pop up in my feed. A delicious video I did for their awesome wine. The wine drops at the end are often praised as a nice touch. I have to admit, they were a happy accident that I kept in the edit. Not all mistakes are bad. I did try to recreate that drip (to make it even better), but found I was only wasting good wine down the side of the bottle. *shakes head at self* Cheers, hope your weekend was good.
Some days I have to pinch myself. I have the best clients. So creative and gorgeous in all the right ways. Love the iconic looks they create. And seriously even more stunning in person.
😍 The Iconiko range is so gorgeous, and Australian made! Have you seen it yet? Here's a little peek of what we captured for their recent video.
Covid life whilst being very sucky has come with some new opportunities. Yeah I'm a glass half-full kinda gal. (I'd go a step further to say it's refillable so why argue). The Decor+Design event took the Melbourne trade show online. Which meant Iconiko needed a video to showcase their latest range.
For video 'first timers' I was impressed. They committed to the process and created some jaw dropping gorgeous scenes at The KO Creative Studio. They arrived with all their stunning art work, posters, pillows, bedheads, & mirrors. Along with a bed, couch, console tables, flowers, etc. For 4 hours they 'set up home'. I can hand on heart say their artwork is even more impressive in person. I hope the beauty of each piece comes across. They do amazing work! And Iconiko has an awesome team of people.
Iconiko even organised a model for the day. Lysha Maree Makeup was a natural. She helped to highlight the wall art and frames. Throwing pillows, reading style books, drinking pretend coffee, she was a dream to work with. Mean while there's me saying 'look lovingly at the artwork'. She took my awkward direction and made it work.
So if your thinking, geez we're a bit stuck thanks to Covid life. Consider video to help take your products online. And If you've got a wall that needs an update, check out Iconiko. I've got my eye on a couple of peices for my home office update.
Pre-covid life I loved attending The Sweatworking Collective events & workshops. An easy way to meet like-minded people. Even as a shy introvert.
The talented Nicola from Arcane Agency ran this 'Create a 90 day Market Plan' workshop in her Belmont office. Nicola is so knowledgeable when it comes to all things digital marketing. And she makes it super easy to understand. Be sure to jump across and give her a follow.
I left with ideas on how to organise my to-do list so it flowed. On a single A3 page I had notes & ideas on objectives, guidelines, content pillars, my brands messaging, target segments, key messages, a communication strategy, (*takes deep breathe) and tactics to put into place. It was a jam-packed workshop. A great way to learn and have fun.
Best of all, when I film a workshop, I get to replay the footage & learn a bunch of new things again. There were so many awesome ideas bouncing around in this workshop!!
(Collobrative video filmed October 2019).
Curious what a Video Creator can produce with an iPhone? I was, so I gave it a go! When it comes to a mobile phone, most people just stand and pan. Me, I prefer a more cinematic look. Smooth movement, depth, and details. I like to show the scene, in an interesting & engaging way. I love putting those Videographer skills to use. Add some sound design (none of the audio is original, I've added it later). Oh bar, one bird track. There's one original bird sound still included, but I layered it with two other purchased bird tracks to enrich the environment even more.
Back story... when away for a couple of nights in July. (A delayed anniversary celebration). I kept things super light by leaving my camera gear at home. I simply packed my iPhone & gimbal. That's the travellers dream right? Getting great footage without all the weight of the 'good gear'.
This was a personal project. Meaning I filmed it because I wanted to challenge myself to see what the iPhone can and can't do. Before we got too comfortable, I wandered around with my iPhone to capture some footage.
Once home I popped that footage onto my PC and got editing. Actually, once home I had another video project to do. So this had to wait a couple of weeks.
The verdict? The iPhone was great for capturing footage with a gimbal. I wasn't able to use the ultra wide camera. As the gimbal arm could be easily be seen in the footage. I've ordered some counter weights to solve that issue. That adds another thing to pack/carry and an extra step in setting up. Still a much lighter and portable set up than my dslr.
If your curious about the location. This is the newly refurbished Kudos Air Villa from Kudos Villas in Hepburn Springs. If you're in regional Victoria, I highly recommend putting this place on your wish list. They have 9 villas scattered throughout the area. They've always had contactless check-in/out. You can't help but feel like a rock star when arriving. No reception or staff person to slow down your holiday start. Just a pin code to give you entry. I've been visiting each year since 2009!
When is the last time you took the equipment you had and tested it out in a new way? Got a GoPro laying about, or a couple of lenses you rarely use? Dust them off and try using them again.
When pivoting means you try editing someone else's footage. Loved how Blink Dance Theatre is making the most of Covid life.
Performer: Nia Nurit
Footage shot by Nia on an iphone.

I upgraded to the latest iPhone. Can't help but wonder. Am I out of a job?
My old phone was a little SE from 2016. At the time I just wanted something that made phone calls. Weird right. Surely I would want to take all my photos on my digital camera. Four years later and I'm sick of carrying that thing around. Or more to the point, I don't carry it around. My light set up still weighs 1.5kgs compared to the latest phone which is just 226 grams (in the max size)! Temptation finally got me. I've been hanging out with the latest iPhone 11 Pro Max for the last 3 weeks.
I love the bigger screen real estate. The 3 lenses, especially the telephoto. The ease of use and discretion are a big plus.
My answer to the question. Am I out of a job? Yes & no.
For outstanding video quality that's needed for websites, a dslr is still my preferred choice. For every day social content the iPhone is the winner. Check out the comparison I share of of dslr footage to the iPhone video quality. The main differences being - you can't easily blur the background (which is a look I looooove). That the colours are warmer and more saturated looking. (Not loving that). The iPhone is very good, just not as good as the digital camera.
A Video Creator also brings a wealth of knowledge. They know how to film & capture audio. How to edit. How to choose & license music. They (me) bring the know-how to bring your idea to life.
What I have realised, if you understand the basics of photography, you can create some AMAZING quality photos with an iPhone. I'll be sharing more photo tips in the future. Keep an eye out for that.
The Blink Dance Theatre cast expressed those ISO feels with movement.
Filmed by the cast members and edited by me.
I've been lucky enough to call Geelong home for 11 or so years now. Recently I got to see first hand just how amazing this community is. Geelong Gathers for Good was sold out. So event 2.0 was launched, in a short crazy amount of time. Raising funds for the bushfire relief effort for CFA (Country Fire Authority) & Australian Red Cross
The event was so massive, that I've created various versions of the night. This one highlights the fabulous panel. Who delved into all things re kindness & courage. The one on my Insta shares the interviews by Lee Stamps. (Jump across to watch that one too).
So many businesses came forward to help. People are just awesome! I'll try to tag some, but there are many more! Alisha Brennan, SweatWorking Geelong, Hilary Holmes Makeup, Botanicals by Luxe, Emma Hawkins, Zoe Waters, Renee Enright, Dave Thornton, Sean Purcell, Lana Wilkinson, Catriona Rowntree, Truffleduck, Chandelier Hire, Piano Bar Geelong, Kim Elise Cooper, MYNE by prudence caroline, Provenance Wines, Lustre Blooms, Memphis Hire, Elderberry Event Hire, Little Love Signs, Bridie Bakes, Butter, St Dakota, and many many more!
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas. I'm still buzzing from the excitement last week.160 adoring fans met their idol in the red suit. I got to hang out with Santa, Mrs Claus, & a few of the elves from the North Pole. Along with lots of children. Massive thanks to the amazing Gateway Plaza Leopold who invited me along. I mean we're all a big kid at heart!! And for the little people, they had fun singing, dancing, and eating. Check out the video. There were two groups of 80 children, who won a 'Eat & Meet Breakfast with Santa'. I'm just jealous that I wasn't dancing in the Santa mosh-pit.
It was my first visit to the Leopold Plaza & I was impressed. So much parking available. I dare say I'll be back in 2020 for coffee and shopping.
Own Kind offer Group Syling Parties for you and 2 or more of your friends. You get after hours access to the store and Stylists. There's an option to add a Gourmet Cheese Platter. Even a makeup artist and hair styling, so you can go from store to event. That's a lot of personalised awesomeness that needs to be shared with their clientele!
Do you offer an awesome personalised service that your customers may not know about? Visuals are more powerful than text. I mean your here reading this, but was it the moving visuals that caught your attention?
A video on your website means browsing customers can discover more about what you offer in a fun way! So next time your wondering what could you possibly share in a video, consider showing your audience your services in action.
On this occasion I got to work with some familiar faces. Which made this project extra fun. Huge thanks to Emelia Morris Stylist, Romy from , Geelong Fashionista, Casey from . With the gorgeous voice over by Sam . (If they are not linked here, you can find them on Instagram).
I really have the best clients. I had a ball filming the new office launch party for Wealth Built Right. Thanks Nat & Terry for having me along with my camera. Your new location is stunning. If you haven't seen it, check out the video. They are located locally in Rutland Street.
Any time Steampocket Pizzeria & Cafe is catering, you don't need to ask me twice! What a great night.
If you've ever been around as I film you might have heard me excitedly say 'I've got subjects to play with'. As I was the first headshot yesterday, I was left with free time to play. I captured BTS of Amy Lee Carlon Photography's Headshot Brunch. Totally unplanned, I only had my iPad camera with me (which is decent in good light). Everyone looked gorgeous and I couldn't help myself. I just wish I got more video because it was such a fun day!
I love when people make it easy for you to say “Heck yes I’m in!”.
‘Do Branding Photo Shoot’ was on my 2019 goal list. Besides the dollars, it feels like an investment of my time. Finalising my brand vision. Sorting out outfits options. Do I need props? Which locations work best. Never mind the huge task of picking a favourite Photographer. Easier to delay than actually do. And yet I’m a visual person who gets it. Imagery is important.
SweatWorking Geelong teamed with Amy for a Headshot Brunch. No decision stress needed, I was in. I could commit to picking one outfit. I could say yes to a couple of professional looking photos (that I didn’t have to edit). I could easily say yes to a couple of hours chatting with the girls enjoying brunch.
What I didn’t expect. Experiencing nerves from the other side of the lens. I left my outfit choice to the day before. I didn’t finalise said outfit til the morning of. I knew doing my own hair would be hit and miss. I thankfully I had the good sense to have my makeup done by Charity Barnes Hair and Makeup Artistry which made me feel gorgeous. I have one makeup look in my bag of tricks. It’s the same look for work or a date night. It literally doesn’t change. I really should learn more about applying makeup.
The morning of I was both excited and nervous. I also knew that a good photographer doesn’t need you to be like a model. All perfect and posed. If you show and up and be willing to smile and laugh they’ll do some cool creative wizardry to make you look good. Their goal is to hand you photos you love.
I can say, that was easy. It was fun. I LOVE the draft photos that I have to choose from. Thanks for making that an easy yes.
Note to self. Make it easy for people to say yes to your services.
Some photos I took after capturing ALL THE VIDEO. This new office launch party was bustling with happy clients and friends. Such a great way to celebrate the new gorgeous location in Rutland Street. Well done Wealth Built Right!
Thanks to Jeanie Irving for capturing some wonderful moments fro our office launch on Friday night...🚀
We can't wait to share the video
When editing a video, I love creating snapshots. This is grabbing a frame from the video. It helps check consistency of colour grading etc. I debated sharing these. I had my Video Creator hat on, & these aren't really 'Photographer quality'. But I'm guessing you might enjoy these too.
If you decide to share these on socials (& your very welcome to), I just ask that you mention the involved parties. It's easy, it looks like this: Event: . Location: .A Movement. Video/photos:
For bonus points, include everyone involved who made it an awesome day: Emcee: & . In Conversation with: . Partners: .
Be socially awesome & SHARE THE LOVE.
Promotional videos to let people know what events you have coming up is a great way to spread the word. I’m looking forward to attending this SweatWorking Geelong workshop with Roxie Bennett on 9th October. Gut health, listening to your intuition, it all sounds fascinating. Can’t wait.
Will you be joining in? It’s a local workshop at the convenient location of Bridge Coworking Meeting and Event Space Newtown Geelong.
Loved meeting up with SweatWorking Geelong this morning. How awesome is L.A Movement. If in Torquay, check them out! So glad Michelle was able to come along & say hello.
This morning Michelle went along to L.A Movement with SweatWorking Geelong - it was awesome ! The positive vibes in the room was amazing. Thanks to Jeanie Irving for introducing us to this amazing group of people!
Everyone we spoke to was super excited about our launch!
Be sure to grab your tickets

I love when people who live inside my Insta app say hello in person. Had such a great night listening to Roxie speak about finding your Superpower. A room full of awesome people, all thanks to the Geelong Small Business Festival. I spent the night behind my camera (my fav place) filming. Which means I get to listen to the night all over again for any gems I missed the first time round. ;)
Thanks Plan.It Roxie and Bridge Coworking Meeting and Event Space Newtown Geelong. FYI Roxie wore Shortlist shop. We all loved the protein balls from EATSS. Sooo good.
Last week I was at the beautiful Barossa Valley. On a quest to answer the question - WHAT VIDEO EDITING EDITING APPS do I prefer? Okay so the holiday might have been organised prior, but I filmed & edited a holiday video whilst I was away. No heavy dslr camera needed. No trying to pick a favourite lens.
With just a mobile device (my iPad) I captured footage AND edited those clips while I was away. In the comfort of a gorgeous room overlooking the beach in Adelaide. I had a short 1 minute video completed BEFORE I headed home. Which app/s did I use? Watch to find out.
Well this is hugely exciting. Pop on over to Publishizer (click the butterfly below) and watch the video I filmed for Roxie Bennett. Roxie is the MC at Sweatworking events (among many other talents). In a matter of a few months I've watched Roxie transform before my eyes.
She is passionate about helping women. After feeling like 'a big old moth', she set out to find answers of how to 'feel like a dynamic vibrant butterfly'. There wasn't anyone around her age that was speaking to her. So Roxie developed her own plan focusing on 5 pillars, joy, gut, mind, mouth, & movement. I can't wait to learn more! Watch the video to hear more details from Roxie.
I just pledged to buy a book. Can't wait to see her published.
The Butterfly Plan by Roxie Bennett The Butterfly Plan will show you how to say goodbye to the sluggish overweight moth and hello to the healthy dynamic butterfly who lives in us all!
This Christmas in July event promised cocktails, wine, & cheese. Not disappointed. So good to mingle, shop, nibble, and drink. Took my iPhone along to capture some footage.
Turns out I'm a bit addicted to SweatWorking Geelong. They make networking so easy and fun. I never thought I'd use those words in the same sentence!
In the video: Bridge Coworking Meeting and Event Space Newtown Geelong, Boutique Event Co, Botanicals by Luxe, IAMJ Jacinta Maddalena, Lustre Blooms, maison saine, Nest Seven Tanning, Project Ten, StyleDog, Style Our Party, Sweet Clementine. Plus many others making an appearance.
Did you catch the interview with Kirby from Women's Financial Education? Becky asked Geelong specific questions. Standing behind the camera, I found it easy to understand and super interesting. Even had a few aha moments myself. I'm looking forward to the workshop tomorrow night at Bridge Coworking Meeting and Event Space Newtown Geelong. Thanks SweatWorking Geelong for workshops that are relevant to all women.
Today's film location was a tough choice. The cool wall or the gorgeous couch. Which would you have picked?
I'm a sucker for a good looking wall.
