Queensland #backyardpools are under the microscope as new #poolsafetylaws come into effect. On the spot fines for unsafe #poolfences are the new way that authorities are trying to protect kids from drowning this summer. By law, all Queensland homes with pools must comply with the latest pool safety laws. Supervision is always going to be key, but having a competent and compliant pool barrier is a way of slowing down and reducing access to the pool. 6 out of 7 back yard pools fail on first inspection. To meet the new standards, pool gates must self latch from any open position and must never be propped open. Fences must be 1,2m high with no more than 100mm gap from the ground. No climbing objects are allowed within 900mm of fences. Among other requirements, an updated CPR sign listing breath before compressions must be installed. If your pool fails to meet standards you could face a very hefty fine. Up to $824 for homeowners or in excess of $2000 for businesses. 300 children under the age of 5 have drowned since the year 2000. 11 of the last 12 drownings have been from propped open pool gates. If you've got a pool, you've got a responsibility! Call us today to get your pool safe, prevent drownings and avoid hefty fines.
