PYJAMA DAY COMING SOON ....
July is upon us and half the year is down! That means…..it’s Pyjama time!
Our favourite week of the year!
Our team love the opportunity to get cozy in their pyjamas at work and we know our clients love this fun opportunity to join in too! Speech therapy is always so much more fun when you are comfy, cozy and just a little bit wild! AND because one day is really never enough for our team, and we didn't want anyone to miss out, this year we are having PYJAMA WEEK!
Over the week of 15-19 July, we welcome all our clients in their sleep-time comforts : slippers, ugg boots, dressing gowns, cuddlers, oodies are all welcome! We don't want anyone to miss out on the snuggly vibes!
National Pyjama Day (officially held on Friday 19th July 2024) is all about helping The Pyjama Foundation raise much-needed awareness and funds for children in foster care. Therapy Matters donates to this foundation every year and we wanted to take this opportunity to raise awareness of this worthwhile charity AND have just a little bit of fun!
Feel free to make a donation, and get your friends and family involved too!

LET'S GET MOTORING TEAM DAY Last week our team gathered for a motor planning themed day. Alot of work goes into balancing the learning, team-building and flow of these days in order maximise our time together. Meeting our mission for high quality clinical services requires regular opportunities for life-long learning as well as a culture of respect, curiosity and connection amongst a team as well as a healthy dose of fun. Our Let's Get Motoring day delivered this mission with: 🧗Reflections on how it feels to learn a new complex motor plan (e.g. like driving) 🧗What it feels like to have motor planning difficulties so we can empathise with our client's perspective 🧗The latest evidence in assessment and therapy for childhood apraxia of speech 🧗Learning about our growing therapy assistant services and how they are making a difference for clients 🧗Learning from the talented Dominic Gunther from @earlyyearsphysio about low tone, 'w' sitting and contemporary evidence-based physiotherapy approaches for children. Thanks Dom for so generously sharing your wisdom and practical tips. 🧗Finally, working together in pairs to conquer the climbing challenges at @onbelay.climbing with resilience, perseverance, teamwork and support. A huge shout out to the team at On Belay climbing who showed the essence of great teaching to support the development of a new motor plan: ✅Be Patient ✅Be Supportive ✅Be easy to follow ✅Set that just right goal ✅Encourage a have a go attitude with perseverance ✅Celebrate achievements ✅Give lots of different types of tips and feedback from showing, to guiding, to explaining and copying ✅Acknowledge honestly when things are difficult ✅and most importantly, give plenty of supportive opportunities for the person to try the new motor pattern out themself and learn how their body moves from one spot to another in space and time. So much crossover from our own learnings in this experience to what we need our clients
Big thanks to the speech pathologists at Beyond Barriers Therapy services in Townsville who traveled far for our key word sign workshop today!

GROUNDED IN WILDLIFE : CHRISTMAS PARTY
This weekend our team celebrated the end of another talkative year with a Twilight Tour & Christmas Party at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
Every year we have a theme that anchors our intent for ourselves and our clients. After the Co-VID years, 2023 was our year of Grounded.
It was lovely to mark the end of our Grounded year with a relaxed wander, in the icon that is Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Thanks to the Sanctuary team for being so welcoming, engaging and informative. Also, thanks to all the animals for showing us what you get up to when the crowds are gone and the temperature cools down.
Choosing to hold our Christmas celebration here means that our funds help contribute to the invaluable work the Sanctuary does for conservation & care for native wildlife and nurturing of local Indigenous heritage!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Trick or Treat! Making a Difference one SPOOOOKY word at a time! Our team had a little dress-up fun today with our clients to mark Halloween. For those of you who have visited the Hawking room over the last week you will have seen it getting SPOOKIER and SPOOKIER! Stephanie had fun setting up her room for some trick or treat fun this week. While Halloween gives us opportunity for a little fun, excitement and creativity in our therapy sessions, there are also lots of communication goals we can cover: 👻Pronunciation of 'tr' in Trick or Treat 🦇 Spooky vocabulary like skeletons, spider, bats and ghosts 🎃 Emotions like excited, happy, nervous or scared 👻 Imaginative play 🦇Social communication skills such as greeting, farewelling and giving thanks 🎃 Understanding quantities for one lolly, more lollies or lots! No matter how or whether you celebrate this day as a family, we hope you have lots of communication fun talking about it! We certainly did!

HAPPY EASTER Wishing our clients, families and team a happy easter! We hope you enjoy some wonderful, communicative time together with your loved ones.
FAMILY CHRISTMAS PARTY : BOUNCE! What a fantastic afternoon all our clients, siblings, parents and therapists had at Bounce last week for our end of year celebration. A wonderful opportunity for everyone to connect, share, laugh, reflect and give thanks after such a challenging year. There were so many heartwarming moments at the event to fill everyone with joy and hope: 🎄 The big smiles of excitement on the kid's faces. 🎄 The infectious enthusiasm of children sharing their fun with adults. 🎄The courage so many clients showed on mastering a new jump or movement, 🎄 The goodwill on display as everyone shared space in such an inclusive event where everyone was welcome. 🎄The helpfulness of those bigger and stronger to help others get over obstacles. 🎄The gratitude and thanks shared with our team for their efforts this year. 🎄The smiles of our team as they joined in the action. 🎄The relief parents experienced in meeting other parents walking a similiar path. Thanks to the awesome team at Bounce for their assistance on the day and the provision of a sensory-sensitive event!
