The BoBo Boat
Fishing guide at Capn’s Charters
Had a cracker morning fishing with Scotty from Creek to Coast 🔥🔥 we set off in hopes of finding some Moreton Bay squire and were also rewarded with a nice jewie on the bream setup.
A great morning had by all and back in time for a late breakfast 🎣🎣
The flathead have been chewing with some awesome sessions on the boat recently 🎣🎣
I’ll be at Anaconda North Lakes at the end of the month to talk all things flathead.
I’ll be going over:
Gear
Retrieves
Line management
Moon phases and tide spreads
What structure to fish and when to fish it
Water levels
How to work your system effectively with tides
Dissecting spots and how to fish them more effectively.
Thanks everyone, have a great day!
More fantastic catches for our Capn’s Charters clients 🔥
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
All fish released 🎣
The last few days have been awesome 🔥🔥 the bream fishing has been red hot (they are so much fun to target on light gear and our clients have been loving it!). The flatty fishing is kicking into gear and we’ve been getting smoked by some monster Jew as well. Throw in squire, tailor, trevs, grunter, threads and cod for good measure.
We love promoting sustainable fishing at Capn’s Charters and the only thing we enjoy more than seeing our clients catch quality fish- is watching them swim away 🎣🎣 I’m in talks with QLD Fisheries at the moment to see if I can help with their research in any small way.
My Creek2Coast episode was a success and Scotty has already booked us in for another episode in the coming weeks 👍👍
Lastly, we had another committee meeting last night for the Gold Coast Flathead Classic and club. I’m learning so much from this committee and I can’t believe how hard they work to keep the wheels turning. They really do a fantastic job!
I’ve babbled on for long enough. Enjoy your week everyone and I hope you’re all catching some cracker fish, take care.
We’ve had some cracker charters lately 🔥🔥
110cm threadie ✅
96cm flathead (charter record) ✅
Podium finishes on comp charters ✅
50-80+ fish sessions ✅
Double digit Jewies ✅
Ryan and I bust our arses to get our clients onto fish and we LOVE every minute of it. Some days are tough and some days are amazing. We’ve got a couple of spots left this week and conditions look incredible! Capn’s Charters
Had an amazing weekend with Billy fishing the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show bream shootout 🔥🔥 weighing in our fish amongst million dollar boats, chatting and fishing against some of the nicest anglers you’ll ever meet, incredible prizes and awesome atmosphere made for a great time 🔥🔥
Step Outside With Paul Burt was awesome on stage as always, and him and his crew did a fantastic job running the event!
We were lucky enough to get the win but Harry Schofield and his team mate were literally only a few fish scales behind us. Harry is a bream gun and I reckon he’s going to return the favour plenty of times when I jump into the ABT.
Hope you all enjoyed your weekend and have a great week 🎣🎣
Great start to the week at Capn’s Charters
Averaging 40 fish a session consisting of bream, tailor, flathead, Trevally and at least 6 Jew each charter 🎣🎣
Bookings are filling up fast but there’s always room for more 👍👍 great time to pull a sickie 😜😜
I’ll also be doing a Creek2Coast episode next week with a couple of sports stars can’t wait! Hopefully no camera curse!
Take care everyone and have a great week.
Couple of nice ones from the last 2 days. Billy and I will be competing in the QTS comp this weekend and hopefully bagging a couple of nice bream, wish us luck 👍🎣
I’m also back to writing for Fishing Monthly so look out for the next issue.
Have a great weekend everyone and stay safe in the wind. All fish released healthy Capn’s Charters
I’ve had a cracker run on the Jewies this year 🔥🔥 Seeing a massive improvement in numbers since the size limit was raised. Quick pic and released healthy 🎣🎣
Another awesome session with Billy doing some bream tournament practice. We had a quick crack at some Jew in the 90-100 bracket before getting out the finesse gear. Throwing cranks/blades/lightly weighted plastics at heavy structure provided plenty of entertainment for the morning.
These bream were some of the fattest and tallest ones I’ve ever caught on lure (when actually targeting bream) and we were super happy to find this quality in the lead up to the next set of comps. I still have a long way to go and a lot to learn with this species on lures, but I’m really enjoying it.
All fish were released healthy, hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend 👍👍
Billy Lawson
Some more happy customers 🎣🎣 the full moon was very tough to fish around but we chipped away and landed some nice flatties and jew. There were a few monster tailor jumping onto the Capn’s boat as well.
The Pirtek results came in and Ryan won the flatty section by a decent margin, I also won a bunch of fishing tackle from the random draw 👍👍 Keep an eye out for the Pirtek Fishing Challenge next year and you might be lucky enough to share in $300,000 worth of prizes. Congratulations to Guesty and his team for another amazing event and raising a bunch of cash for medical research 🔥🔥
Have a great week everyone!
Well it wasn’t my best weekend in the 2024 Pirtek Challenge! Day 1 saw my client and I hook more threadies than flatties 😂 Day 2 we changed a few things up and got a lot more flathead onboard the boat but we just couldn’t get the size. My plan for this competition was defintely not on the money, simple as that.
Ryan however! Landed a monster 90cm flatty which will definitely put him up there on the pointy end of the scoreboard (results released this Saturday). It’s bloody awesome to see one of the Capn’s Charters boats kick a massive goal! Ryan captained us to a Flathead Classic title in 2022 so it comes as little surprise to me if he gets the win. Well done mate 👍
Had one of the most INSANE bites I’ve ever had with my charter client recently. We caught approx 40 jewfish and dropped another 20 or so, safe to say it was mind blowing. We also got meter plus threadies and heaps of monster tailor for good measure. Incredible fishing! 🎣🎣
This weekend I’ll be braving the elements to fish the Pirtek comp with a regular client. We will be going for a monster flatty so fingers crossed 🤞🤞
Have a great weekend everyone, if you’re sending it then be safe out on the water!
I have one last post for the week! My team mate Billy had to fish this BTA round solo because I had a charter booking… and the cheeky bu**er goes and wins first place! So bloody proud of you mate! I might have to take more time off so you don’t have to carry me on these bream comps. Thanks to Billy, team Billbo Baggems has completed two BTA comps this year for a 1st and 2nd finish.
I’m trying to convince him to take a break from catching monster threadies and Jew to enter some ABT comps.
Keep it up mate! 🔥🔥🔥
Super stoked to announce I’ve joined the GCSFC committee for 2024! I’ll be floating between general duties as well as helping out with the Games Master role. Very excited to be involved with a fishing club that has a long + proud history and would have to be one of the premiere fishing clubs in all of Australia! Home of one of Australia’s biggest fishing comps (Gold Coast Flathead Classic) I can’t wait to learn from the wealth of experience held by the committee and serve the members of this incredible club 🎣🎣
On a quick side note- I’ll be teeing up another episode soon with TV legend Scott Hillier for a segment on Creek to Coast. Scott is a deadset Aussie legend and a ton of fun to fish with- so I’m very excited for another opportunity to fish with this bloke!
That’s it from me this week guys- water quality is a little ordinary atm with the bigger tides and 2 days of stronger winds. We’ll see the water quality really improve next week with slacker tides and low winds. The Capn’s Charters net is going to get a big workout next week I can feel it 👍 we have a few spots free so message us if you feel like taking a sickie from work (I highly recommend it!) have a great weekend and hope you’s catch plenty.
Here are some of our charter catches from the last several trips. We’ve been getting double digit jew most days and Ryan’s been smacking great numbers of squire and other reefies in the bay 🎣🎣
All fish released.
We have spots available if you’d like to book in, just shoot us a message. Hope everyone has a great weekend and stay safe out on the water.
Cracker session with Billy getting a ton of bream practice in for a few up coming comps. Over 40 bream, fair bit of flatty bycatch (unfortunately we didn’t land them all with Billy losing a monster boat side on light leader), and a really quick crack at some bigger fish to mix things up, biggest 115cm.
Lures used- plastics, soft vibes, blades, shallow and deep cranks, jerk baits.
Thanks for reading guys 🎣🎣
BOOKED
Awesome data for Thursday morning everyone. Chasing big fish only. 50% off if we don’t get you a BIG one 🎣🎣
Had a fun day recently doing some more recon for our new charter location in the bay. Around 50 fish landed across 11 species, and several big jewies that gave us a massive flogging (may need to start using heavier gear!). Hope everyone had a great weekend 🎣🎣
Getting some tournament practice done before the BIG FISH season kicks in, and it’s shaping up to be a good one 🔥🔥
My second competition for the year will be at the end of next month so here’s hoping we can finish somewhere towards the pointy end 👍👍
Had a fun charter with these top blokes 👍 20+ flatties including a 76cm PB and left the tailor biting.
Not the greatest water quality at the moment but caught at least 20-30 fish on every charter this week. The water is pretty filthy on the runout but you can grind it out and hook a few even when the bite is tough 👍 smaller lures have definitely been the pick and don’t forget to look for clean water wherever possible.
Have a great weekend everyone and keep an eye out for branches in the water!
All fish released, bookings available next week Capn’s Charters
Lots of rain today but Billy and I entered Round 1 of the BTA and were lucky enough to take out 2nd place with a 3.053kg bag. Fishing cranks along pontoons got the best results for us 👍👍 hope everyone had a great weekend!
Happy new year everyone!
Have a safe and Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🎄
Couple of nice fish caught the last 2 mornings during a tough bite. Hope everyone’s having a great week 👍
Had an awesome session with Beau Rixon recently. We started the day fishing cranks on the shallow flats landing 30 odd bream and a few flatties. Once the wind picked up it shut the shallow bite down, so we decided to try our luck out deep.
In the first couple of minutes Beau hooks a nice 86cm Jew which put up a great fight on light gear. It didn’t take long after that for the threadies to start slamming our lures. With the fish releasing well we kept at it- landing 9 threadies in pretty short time. With hot conditions present we decided to leave the fish biting in favour of aircon and a cold beer.
Beau teaches kids how to fish at 2 Bent Rods His knowledge of fish behaviour is incredible, great bloke as well 👍👍
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and hope you’s all have a blessed week. Thanks for reading guys, take care.
Some cracker fish on our charters this week 👍👍
The lead ups to the new and full moon can often produce those bigger fish we are chasing and it didn’t disappoint this week 🔥🔥
All fish released healthy. Have a great weekend everyone!
Had a great time filming with the Creek to Coast crew 👍
It took 15 minutes of trying the new Quake vibes out to hook this fish 👍
Bo Sawyer with a nice jewfish that couldn't resist a TT Quake Power Vibe in Mind Blown colour. Bring it on!
