🚨 WHY undercutting other artists will Fek you & the whole industry up in the future… 💸💸💸
Hey, it’s me, the gal who loves opening up these convos to create awareness 👋🏼
One way you may think you can take a monopoly of the industry could be by simply charging less than your fellow artists 😑
Find out what they charge, who their clients are and offer the client less direct 🤩
Sounds like a no brainer right? 🙄
Wrong!
What you may not realise is that you are destroying both your own future & our industry.
In an industry where some look at “makeup” as not a serious career and more of a hobby - this is the worst thing you can do.
You are NOT dominating the industry - the clients are the only ones on top in this situation as you are creating an industry where they know they can always “get someone cheaper”.
And what happens when the next MUA then undercuts your prices? Prices get lower and lower. It cheapens the industry.
You’ve just contributed to lowering “the going rate”. How do you expect to get ahead financially in all of this?
The aim of the game is to work smarter not harder.
So as we move into a brand new year, there is no better time to reassess your pricing - and this is relevant to any service provider across all industries.
If you are constantly booked out, this is a sign you could raise your prices - it’s supply and demand.
Yes, you may lose some clients but you will gain others and at the end of the day be potentially earning more and working less.
Small increases really do add up - even $5.00 extra per person could be a weekly difference of those shoes you’ve been eyeing off or money for your next family vacay 🤔
Know your worth, take care of your artistry family & may 2024 be your savviest year yet!
I would LOVE to know your thoughts on this in the comments!
xoxo Mia

My next Masterclass is Cairns 4-5 February 😍
🚨 How lining your inner corners can drastically change your eye shape:
By working on the inner corners like this it really lengthens an eye like crazy and takes the roundness out, making it very almond shaped.
However, if you have narrow set eyes avoid this if you don’t want this feature exaggerated.
When doing inner corner liner work I always leave this until the very last thing so it’s fresh for photos, not smudged & sharp.
I use a special brush from - C212 that’s a small flat brush that gets in those corners perfectly. You can’t play with them too much as she will water & you will also lose your sharpness.
For longevity for those doing this at home, a liquid pen liner that is waterproof is your best bet - mine are relaunching very soon with a brunette sister edition 😉 You just have to remember not to touch your inner corners at all as you’ll remove them 😅
I absolutely these lashes by to give that spiky vibe.
Faux frecks, cheek slime & Beam Machine Highlight by 💕
Eyes using Biba Palette - get it from “Sculpture” was the main shade here.

WHY I ask my clients NOT to tint their brows… a love note to brow techs 😬
To clarify - I prefer tint no closer than one week to makeup application to give it time to chill.
Why?
Because I can make them darker, stronger, more defined with makeup - but Fek knows I can’t turn back time and get that tint stained skin to be a lil less savage 😅
Particularly if my client is fair haired and gets a tint far too dark or the wrong tone for her. It will change the entire look.
Even worse if the tint has gone out of the natural shape 😵💫
Too often I see people who have naturally warm tones in their hair but their brows are now cool dark brown from a tint.
I understand some people like a stronger tint initially as it “lasts longer” and I get this but it’s all about timing around your events.
Thoughts & experiences?
Let’s chat in the comments 😬
Ps how gorge is this beauty whose formal makeup I did last week 🤩
🚨I have a question for all my event clients…
Brides, bridesmaids, all of you hiring hair & makeup artists for your special day…
How do you honestly feel with the level of content creation that is happening on your special, momentous day?
I have posted earlier this year about etiquette for creatives when we are hired and paid to do a job, yet a lot of us are using this paid gig to create A LOT of content for our own monetary gains.
It has gone beyond a few piccies & a quick video lately… the content game has been stepped up a notch.
Don’t get me wrong, I will get some content if and when the time is right - I read the room, is it appropriate, is there time, am I intruding on the professional photographer’s time by asking for a photo? Is the bride wigging out as she’s nervous?
If the answer is unclear to any of those questions, I don’t ask to get a photo - and of course I ask “do you mind if…” and sometimes the answer has actually been “yes I do mind”, which could actually be the real answer more would say if they didn’t find it so confronting being asked on the spot.
It’s not my day, it’s theirs. If I want to create content I do it in my own time. I’m getting paid to do a job.
Then of course there are clients who are all for it - they love the content side of it. Now you can even hire a team to create content and make reels for you!
So I would love to pass the mike to each of you to let me know of your own personal experiences and opinions on this. Artists too…
Are we overstepping the content mark by turning your wedding into a content circus? 🎪

Hair & Makeup on 🤩
Today I felt like a real makeup artist again - actually creating rather than providing a service.
Well, the service was to myself, a kick in the creative ass to practice my craft, use new products without worrying about longevity & performance & work on my own time, with no “how much longer do you think” been thrown around 🤣
It’s all too easy to fall into the mouse on a wheel lifestyle that is a lot of our jobs and become lazy makeup artists who are stuck on repeat with the same looks over and over.
When was your last creative day?
Use it or lose it.
I’m excited to see the shots from today & I did film the entire look & will do a long edit for Youtube, a reel for here and a shorter version again for the old Tiktokarooo. 🎥
I hope you like :)
I used the Metal Boots in the Snow palette for the eyes from available at as well as new Skin Tint. Lashes are by .x

This is Mia Connor Bootcamp…
Last week I ran my first ever 5 day intensive “Makeup Artist Finishing School”.
5 days, 6 fundamental looks every artist should know how to nail, 60 models, 11 Artists from all over Australia. Together we spent the week seaside in the most stunning location 🤩
Did Bootcamp try to kill me? Hell yes. Was it worth it - absolutely!
I was beyond impressed with my organisational skills to pull this mammoth task off - I did pat myself on the back 😂
However, I could not have done it without my amazing right hand woman who assisted me every day, for the entire days - travelling down & back each day in that s**t ass traffic from Brisbane & bringing her amazing high energy & positive attitude daily! Ily 😘 She even had to step in to be a model on one of the days 😉 Special thanks also to for also lending us a hand!
Each day this week I will be dropping snippets of the week from each day & if you didn’t have Fomo before… you will 😉
For those of you who did miss out and have wanted to train with me but the stars haven’t aligned, I will be opening the doors in the coming weeks to watch this online!
This taken from day 1 - “Shoot Ready”, hair & makeup on the beautiful .collins using & Sandstorm Texture Spray.
Drop a 💁🏻♀️ if you want a hair tutorial 🤩
Huge thank you to my gift bag sponsors (pretty much all my fave brands & products!):
