February, the month of love is almost here.

But for us Sri Lankans, for this Thursday (4th of February) we celebrate 73 years of independence from the British ( Sudda people) :)

This year, lets look at it differently. This year, lets ask the question.

Will we ever change as a nation ? May be I could show you why we are still a third world country through a song.

Stay tuned, stay free

The month of January is always a special month to me. Not because its a start of a new year, It is special because its the birthday month of my Mother. (මගේ අම්මා ඉපදුන මාසයයි).

So in January lets celebrate a mother's love, a mother's journey and her sacrifices for her children.

Stay tuned :) Jaya wewa

Life is a work of art. Paint the picture right :)

I heard this gem of a song last weekend and I instantly fell in love with the meaning of the song.

The perfect song to remind us the beauty of life and how unpredictable it could be.

සිනහ නැගෙයි, කඳුල නැගෙයි එයයි ජීවිතේ .

Lesson 4 : Ganga Addara (ගඟ අද්දර) ( Preview)

Some fun facts:
This song is from the film Ganga Addara. Music for this song was composed by Mr Nimal Mendis. He also wrote the song in English ( Banks of the River) and then it was translated to Sinhala by Mr. Augustus Vinayagaratnam.

In the film, Vijaya Kumaratunga plays the role of a doctor ( Dr. Sarath) who falls in love with his patient who suffers from mental illness ( the role Nirmala is played by Beautiful Vasanthi Chathurani ). Just like Jack and Rose's love story, their love story also didn't end according to the plan :).

Most of the moments were captured around the Kalani River.

Our teacher for the day is Mr. Thilina Samarasinghe :)
Thank you very much aiye.

Take #2 for Lesson #3: Got rid of the background noise :)

A beautiful, powerful and a meaningful song.

Summary of the song:
This song is based on the perception of a flower on how it wants to live its life.

The first verse:
The flower do not want to decorate hairs of snobbish women.

Second verse:
Nor the flower want to be there in the vase on dining table where people gather around to talk nonsense stuff.

Third verse:
The ultimate objective of its life is to be thrown on to the funeral parade of a soldier who died for his/her country. May the flower be trampled by people, but still its where it wants to be rather than on hairs of women and being a display flower in a vase.

Song name: Udagu Liyan
Sung by: Nanda Malini

Music: W.D Amaradewa

At a time where we became call of duty players, PUBG characters, Counter Strike heroes or online keyboard warriors, Some real sons and daughters of mother Sri Lanka was in a real battlefield sacrificing their only life, their future and their dreams and yet they fought for us all.
Some souls died and some survived and after 10 years have we already forgotten about them ?

My next lesson is for them, its a revolutionary song and it is the most powerful song I've heard in my entire life.

Can't wait to share this masterpiece by Nanda Malini.

Someone who could understand William Shakespear's english literature and not understand the meaning of songs sung by Pandith Amaradeva ?

Someone who read multiple english novels such as Pride and Prejudice and not even considered to read one Sinhala Novel like Madolduwa by Martin Wickramasinghe ?

Someone who listened to English songs and not listened to our Sri Lankan legends because you didnt understand our Sinhala songs ?

Well Finally, Are you a Sri Lankan ?
