Photography and poster design for .clarkes šŸ’˜

(ft. the brand identity we created a couple of years ago)

This was a fun project that put the cafeā€™s cheeky brand voice to work. Youā€™ll find these posters around Channel Court Shopping Centre in Kingston.

The thing about working with a designer on your brand identity is: as your business grows and you find yourself in need of new assets (like posters, merch, etc), everything will look coherent. Thereā€™s a system thatā€™s followed so nothing is made up on the fly.

Madame Clarkeā€™s constantly gets asked if theyā€™re a franchise. Nope, their brand just looks legit šŸ˜‰

LETā€™S LIVE A LIFE BETTER THAN THIS - .swayzeandtheghosts

This was shot earlier in the year in a school oval in West Hobart. First I squatted, and then later I laid down, in goose (maybe wallaby) poo to get the photo šŸ˜‚

We had set out to capture the backdrop hanging perfectly still, but right before we packed up I thought: letā€™s let the wind in on this.

I love the result. I think itā€™s poetic having the ā€œfakeā€ clouds waver like that. It suits the album too.

Anyway, be sure to check out their new single (out today) and album, out October 25th. Iā€™m biased but I think itā€™s unlike anything else šŸ’™

Happy Monday šŸŒø

We woke up in a cold snap in Hobart, so I will be responding to emails in a jumper and wool socks!

Unpopular opinion: Mondays are great. After a restful + funny weekend having homemade pizzas and wine with friends, Iā€™m excited to get back to work.

On this weekā€™s agenda: a couple of meetings for exciting new collaborations, editing headshots for , taking in situ photos of a completed branding project, and heading to to look for ā€˜Braiding Sweetgrassā€™ by Robin Wall Kimmerer.

Brand campaign photography should highlight the brandā€™s qualities. Sounds simple enough, but in practice it requires some thought.

For example, the VERY GOOD BABY FOOD brand is wholesome. Itā€™s nourishing, caring. High-end and high-quality.

So bright colours wouldnā€™t match. Nor would staged photos with kids smiling and eating out of the jars.

When I took these photos I wanted to be as much of a fly on the wall as possible. I let the kids lead while I snapped. Some things were planned - like the picnic and play date. But the particulars were left for them to decide.

I love telling brand stories this way. The result is more authentic, less sales-y (which is a good thing!), and the photoshoot was so much fun.

Every time I photograph an event, I canā€™t help but feel like a little creeper, moving around the room trying to find the most intimate/hilarious/heartwarming moments and then blasting them with flash. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

But then. When I review the photos. And see the moments captured. It makes being a little creep creep alllll worth it.

Lousy Words: Renowned fashion house, , has been making all the right moves to land a spot as one of the leading brands of 2023.

From celebrity collabs to viral products, Loewe has already been named the hottest brand of Q2 this year.

However, how can we not focus on their brand imagery?

The cool and effortless aesthetic of their product photography allows the brand to stand out. Shying away from traditional product photography methods, Loewe make it work! This is something we like to call ā€œproduct photography, that isnā€™t really product photographyā€.

šŸŒ±Childe Eyewear contribute to which are restoring bio diversity through planting trees in the Yarra Yarra region of WA.

šŸ•¶ļøOne of their collections is plant-based; the other is biodegradable.

šŸ’˜They partner with social enterprises like and consistently show up to support musicians and local artists.

ā€¦and I could go on.

Iā€™m in the middle of re-jigging our website & reflecting on this campaign made me realise good brands like this deserve a lilā€™ something special.

Just before April Fools this year, Heinz unveiled its first pasta sauce in the UK market after 150 years of flavour mastery. Except this launch was no April Fools prank.

The collaboration, inspired by 's viral 'Penne alla Vodka' recipe on TikTok, was the perfect blend of Heinz's iconic taste and Absolut's cool factor.

Generating more than 500M earned media impressions, coverage in 900+ media titles across 30 countries, the collaboration also racked up over 7.6M views on TikTok with .

This collaboration isn't just delicious; it's a taste of success!
