Abbie & Co. - The Story.
I loved every second of living in the “newborn bubble” all of them, except one. The moment I realised just how many single use disposable items we were consuming on a daily basis. After conducting some research I was horrified to learn that it can take up to 500 years for just one disposable nappy to decompose, disposable nursing pads are more prone to fungal infections such as thrush due to the breathability of the pads, commercial wipes often contain preservatives and fragrances that should not come into contact with human skin, let alone our precious babes skin and the list went on and on.
I quickly started searching for a more eco-friendly alternative and found Modern Cloth Nappies (MCN’s) and other reusable products. Often when looking for reusables the most common results were Australian companies that mass produced their products overseas. I contacted a few of these companies asking for more information regarding their products and the responses received were minimal at best. I wanted to make informed choices about what products my family was using and this avenue made it extremely difficult to achieve.
I soon after discovered the wonderful world of Work at Home Mum’s (WAHM’s). I had found my people! However, due to the nature of WAHMS’s, usually a single worker creating their products in between their own bubs lives, found these products were highly in demand and often hard to obtain. Having dabbled in sewing and creativity before I thought I would try to create my own product, one I loved thanks to having the creative freedom to select prints, colour choices and designs. I realised I wanted to create with others and get them involved in the creative process so we can create beautiful re-usable products together.
